Am I the only one who finds is odd that rarely do the writers address the mothers in the new or old series? I’m not talking about the really really really little cameo’s Lion-o, Tygra or the kids mothers’ may have had, I’m talking full on Claudus or Javan status. I mean who were the women (or even the mommy figures) that would help breed these great warriors? 
Now, that’s a great question! Maybe it has to do with the target audience. However, I agree with you entirely, Somalina. 
I think this is mostly it. This show was made for little boys, and so most of the characters are male. Most of the episodes introduce a ‘character of the week’, but I don’t remember any of them being female. And no, I don’t mean that one female forager.
While the Queen was given a nice little spot light, she really only served as means to help birth Tygra’s animosity for Lion-O. She was killed so this whole thing with the brothers could be given more depth. Reminds me of Women in Refrigerators Syndrome.
Women in Refrigerators Syndrome describes the use of the death or injury of a female comic book character as a plot device in a story starring a male comic book character. It is also used to note the depowerment or elimination of a female comic book character within a comic book universe. Cases of ‘Women in Refrigerators Syndrome’ deal with a gruesome injury or murder of a female character at the hands of a supervillain, usually as a motivating personal tragedy for a male superhero to whom the victim is connected. The death or injury of the female character then helps cement the hatred between the hero and the villain responsible. Still, they really could have tried more. I know not to expect 50/50 , but a little more effort to include female character would be nice.

Have to disagree with “the show was made for little boys”, it would be more action oriented like the OS was, this looks to be made to appeal to girls aswell.
I don’t have a reference on hand, but I heard it was intended to sell to boy ages 6-11.
Now, just because a show is intended for a particular audience, that doesn’t mean shouldn’t or wont appeal to another demographic.
I’m a 21 year old female, and I obviously like it.
Didn’t we get a fight in every episode ? Sounds pretty action orientated to me.
I heard kids ages 6-11, if it was just aimed at boys they made some strange choices. There is a lot of focus on character development, backstories, there is romance, and action takes more of a backseat. In the OS most episodes were either fighting a ploy by mumm-ra or battling a new enemy. As having been a boy in that 6-11 age demographic when I watched the OS it got me to buy those toys.
Hmm. Not sure I would say its “..just aimed at boys”. I’m sure they want to hit as many demographics as possible,but little boys is where they saw themselves making most of the money.
I’m pretty sure Young Justice has the same target, and that show has each of its characters at some point in a romantic “entanglement” , or a full blow relationship. Heck, even its supporting characters have a romance :eek: It also has character development, back story and tons of action.
Personally, I don’t think Thundercats spent all that much time on the romance. Now the fandom? That’s another story:p
I guess someone will just have to come up with a great fanfic short then.

The new show paid very little attention to female characters, relegating them to second class status as evil or simply love objects. That is one reason I stopped watching.
