This is the third thread this guy has started up trying to sell expensive equipment such as iPhones, etc. - strikes me as a spammer. He posted up this thread:
…in the “Members Only” forum, which I haven’t deleted for the moment, but have moved to “General Marketplace”. I was tempted to delete it altogether, but wanted to see what you guys thought before so doing. I have a vague recollection of having seen this discussed on this Team Board before - anyway, again, just thought I’d give you guys a heads-up!
EDIT: Seems he’s already started one up in the General Marketplace forum, as well as another one in the ThunderCats Marketplace. I’m going to delete that one - also, I’m going to lock the other Marketplace one for the moment, you guys delete it if you want, that’s cool by me. I think this guy either wants banning or being given a warning to be quite blunt.
He has posted up three threads, all offering Apple products for sale, in an identical vein to the poster we had the other day. The reason he has no threads is because I deleted them all! There were threads advertising this stuff for sale in the Cartoon & Comics Forum, the General Discussion Forum, and the ThunderCats Marketplace Forum!
If at all possible please soft delete the message and post on this thread the user. If the user is deleted I cannot ban the IP addresses. A lot of times spammers will use a different email address but same IP or IP’s within a certain range.
The ones who have been posted so far have all been banned and IP’s have been banned as well. Thanks guys for the heads up
Sorry Manny. I banned and then deleted the user. I didn’t see a point in keeping them as a board member. It’s one thing if they did something wrong, it’s another if they are spammers.
I’m hoping the new version of vBulletin will get rid of the spamming.
I’ve deleted the thread (although it should still be viewable to all TCL mods/admins) but you guys might want to look into banning the poster, username applehome.
Please could somebody either ban this guy, or alternatively if someone wanted to give me the modding power (through the board software) I’d be cool with doing it myself - whichever works best for you guys!
I still come back to the sentiments that I expressed in this thread: http://www.thundercatslair.org/forums/showthread.php?t=2990 - these threads have turned up in forums moderated by Matt and Wacky Martin, who of course now barely ever log on to the site (and Martin has now resigned from the team). I think a shake up is in order, because I don’t normally check those forums but just happened to notice these threads. I agree that there’s not a lot of conversations that require the presence of a moderator, but IMO if spam gets posted to the forums and left untouched, it looks as though we don’t care enough to do anything about it.
Chris, could you check to see if you have full mod power to ban users?
click on the spammer’s user name, select ‘edit user profile’ then on the left menu bar select ‘ban users’ and copy the name of the spammer into the top bar, select permanent delete and hit go
If you can’t login to the power mod screen let me know.
