Awesome Neil…Ill get to watermarking today. I have also edited and watermarked a great deal of the merchandise that Matt has. Once i get home I will upload it and post the link to the images here. The only thing left is to make pages of them and of course do the notes of interest.
I can get the pages started but the notes of interest would be a challenge for me since ireally dont know much about the merchandise end of things.
Looks like the minis and merchandise section can be launched in February along with everything else. Things are looking up this year
Neil, these look amazing!! Honestly, I’m so impressed with the work you’ve done on these, both in display terms (LOVE the way the cover image links to the full wraparound cover) and the excellent, excellent notes of interest! You guys are awesome!!
I took a massive liberty and actually went in and made one small edit to the HTML - you remember I told you I’d been able to identify why some of the red text (“Description”, etc.) wasn’t lining up properly with the text on the right? I’ve gone into these two pages and fixed that problem, it’s a stupid mistake I made when I put the templates together. I’d like to suggest that for all Merchandise pages you guys use one of these two UK VHS pages as a template from now on. Really hope you didn’t mind me going in and fixing my mistake, Neil, I promise I haven’t tampered with anything else!
You guys are awesome! Awesome, awesome, awesome! Can’t wait to see more!
Thanks for correcting the alignment I plan to add more of the UK video’s tonight and then will work on getting the Panini sticker book up
Just watermark the full cover Manny. The thumbnail itself at the side of the text can be left unwatermarked on each
As for the notes of interest they were easy to write as I’ve had these since the 80’s, having a big interest in them. To be honest I went to the BBFC site to confirm the release years and saw the mention of the cuts, which reminded me about it and I thought what a great piece of information this would be!
However I wouldn’t know what to write for such as the mini figures I do have Tygra, Panthro, Tuska and Vultureman, but like Manny, no very little about them…
Cool, will hopefully be able to work my way through some of that stuff at some point
I didn’t get much done in terms of pages yesterday as I spent the time doing the scanning of all my VHS covers The good news is they are all done, edited and uploaded, so it’s just creating the pages for them now
However I did have time to get the Volume 3 VHS done, which I have added to the top of this thread! I might get another VHS page done tonight (depends how drunk I get! ) I’ve done Volume 4 just now. Hopefully I’ll do some more tomorrow.
 I’m so excited and pumped to see what you guys are doing with these - this is the first time I’ve seen a lot of these images and I’m loving checking out what was made! MannyC you’ve done an amazing job with these images, I’m guessing you’re using Photoshop?
Neil: Volume 4 was a favourite of mine as a kid too, I remember I had a copy of the “Exodus movie” on VHS that my auntie and uncle copied for me, and for the longest time it was the only ThunderCats tape I had, I literally wore it out until it wouldn’t play anymore! The second ThunderCats tape I had was volume 4, which I’ve got a sneaking feeling we did actually buy from Argos!! “Snarf Takes Up The Challenge” is still one of my favourite episodes!
MannyC: These pages are first-class, well done! I’ve only spotted one mistake, and that’s on this page:
…where the header on the page still says “Lion-O Pencil Topper”! Hope you don’t mind me pointing this out to you - as I say, I think you’ve done a top job with these, so excited that this section and the mini-figures are coming together!
Thanks Chris for the compliments but it is only happening because of your help with the templates. Ive actually done most of the merchandise stuff we have minus some brazilian puzzles and what im doing right now is adding stuff we dont have that I find on Ebay. Ill probably keep pumping out more of these today so essentially when February comes around we will be able to launch the toys, minis and merchandise sections
Im actually using Photoshop CS5 and it works great. I am able to do watermarking and editing very quickly using the Quick Selection tool. There is going to be a lot of new content online!!!
I think you’re being modest here - I put one page together, you guys have put a ton of pages together, and don’t forget you’ve done all the heavy-lifting on the graphics editing side of things too!
Awesome stuff! I have some material of my own to add to the Merchandise Section, mainly books such as colouring and activity books as well as a couple of storybooks and the UK Annuals, I’ve also got a jigsaw puzzle that Neil helped me win off of eBay! I’ll have to see what I did with all the photos / scans of those!
Photoshop CS5? You lucky devil! I’ve got the full Photoshop CS4 Extended for Windows which I managed to get for a reasonable price thanks to the fact that my Dad was in college - unfortunately he’s now graduated just as I’m about to switch over from Windows to Mac, which means for budget reasons I’m going to have to switch from CS4 and go onto Elements 9 for Mac, although my Mac should have a Windows partition so if I need to use CS4 Extended for its’ advanced features, I can just re-boot the Mac into Windows!
But yeah, if on your travels you discover a copy of CS5 Extended for Mac OS that, shall we say, allows multiple users to load it onto their computer, please do let me know, LOL!
Just done the pages for Volumes 5 and 6/7. However the page for Vol 6/7 looks a bit odd as the poor front cover image looks lost (due to me writing so much information in the right hand column of the page for the release! )
I think I need to alter this page, maybe by placing the cover image above the text, instead of to the left of the text? Could you take a look at this one for me please Chris?
Hey Neil, I’ve just made a quick alteration to see what it looks like, setting the table cell that displays the image so that the contents of that cell align vertically with the contents of the next one (the contents of the next one being the nested table that contains all the text). I think this looks good, take a look and LMK what you think: http://www.thundercatslair.org/relaunch/collectibles/classic-1980s-merchandise/videos-dvds/pal-vhs-volume-6-and-7
I’m just done with 2 more VHS videos which I’ll update the top post with. One of them is the exclusive Wynd-Up Records release. I’d still love to know more about Wynd-Up Records as I have no idea exactly how this release was actually sold!
So when you’re done does this mean that our Merchandise section will contain info on every ThunderCats VHS released in the UK? If so, that’s awesome, well done Neil!
Do you / we have any info on the US VHS releases as well? And, Neil, would you be willing to add the info about the US and UK official DVD releases by Warner Bros? It might need a new template as presumably we’d want to scan the cover artwork for the individual DVDs inside the slip cases, as well as feature images of the slipcases themselves (which I’m sure we could easily plunder from an online e-tailer), but if you could do the scanning of what you have and then upload the images I reckon I could do a template pretty quickly! LMK what you think of this idea!
Neil I have added some more items i just completed to your first post. I hope you dont mind me adding them on there
FWIW we have 36 items in the merchandise section. I guess we can officially say that the toy section, minis and merchandise will be launched in february
Well I’ve got 3 cover images (not full scans) of videos I don’t actually own, which I will make pages for… then there is one more release that I know of which is the double VHS that repackaged Berbils/Mandora The Evil Chaser along with another 2 episodes VHS (I can’t remember which it was for the life of me ) I’ll just keep an eye out on Ebay for it. But apart from that one release (that repackaged 4 episodes anyway) I believe the UK VHS guide is complete
There is a few in Matt’s folder I believe, however I do not own any of them anymore as I took the one I did own to a charity shop when the DVD’s came out. I know they were released by FHE (US equivelant to VCI basically) and even those contain interesting tidbits (most of which I can’t remember as it’s so long ago I last talked with folks about them! I remember one guy who had them all and lots of info on their releases/availablity etc.. but I can’t remember who that person was! Apologies if it was someone on the team! We might have to reach out to fans on this one I’m afraid!
It will be on my ‘To Do’ list. However the Panini Sticker Album should keep me busy as that will be a large project due to my scanner being old and the odd size of the album itself. That’s not even mentioning creation of the pages!! That takes priority though since I’ve been putting this up on the site for the last 5 or so years!
Not at all. Infact glad you did cos I got a bit frustrating adding all those items to the post earlier
Yeah, these section are definately ready for lift off. To be honest the only problem now is the header. Otherwise we could launch tomorrow…lol
That’s cool - I suppose we could always upload the images that we have and the info we have, and then edit in more information as we get it?
LOL, no worries whatsoever, and definitely agree that this would be a good priority as I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything comprehensive about the sticker album online, whereas all the info about the DVD releases is accessible via Amazon, LOL!
If you can get all the images edited and uploaded I’m sure I can help you out with the page(s), I’m guessing you’d like all of the stickers to be displayed? My own idea would be to start off with the Merchandise Section template like we have, and then underneath have a thumbnail gallery of all the stickers that someone can click on and navigate through the larger images. The Shadowbox plug-in for displaying larger images makes something like this pretty straightforward to code, as we no longer need to create a new HTML page for every larger image we want to display! Anyway, it’s entirely your shout, LMK how you’d like it to look and I’ll do my best to get it going!
To be honest, my sections are a long way off of being finished - I’ve still got around 120 or so pages to transfer for the Comic Section, and all the completed pages for the Episode Guide. However, I’m not unduly worried if these are offline when we relaunch as I can just work steadily to re-add them, I’ve said from day 1 that I think the Toy Section stuff is probably the most important content from the perspective of what people visit this site to check out, so I’m happy to focus on helping you guys out for now and then just get as much as I can done in the run-up to, and following, the relaunch!
Just had a play around with it and can’t find the source of the problem - this is what I mean about WordPress sometimes being buggy. I think your best bet would be to save the text you created and then delete and re-build the page using the template again, if that doesn’t work LMK and I’ll take another look.
Re-done the page and it still won’t load the image (yet the image is loading in the editing section of Wordpress I’ll try re-uploading the image to see if that helps…
