That report is a paraphrase of a paraphrase of a passing conversation he had with Pixel Dan during preview night—not a direct quote. Substantively, he said the exact same thing he said recently, which is that licensing is hard. I take him at his actual word.
Also, based on his Instagram comment posted above, Brian Flynn doesn’t strike me as the kind of man beholden to PR.
The Four HM also officially confirmed that they were working with S7 to get the license. You can say that Flynn is a part of some secret conspiracy to not have people cancel their subs but think about this seriously for a minute. The HM have never really lied to the fans or tried to mislead them. If Mattel was able to get the license, I’m sure it was because WB wasn’t being overly aggressive with the property like they have been in the past. Mattel wouldn’t take a risk like that with Matty being a side project for them. S7 also works with Funko which have had/ has licenses to produce toys for tons of different properties. In the long run, if WB wants to generate interest in the property, getting toys into the hands of collectors is the best way to do it. Classics is a great example of that! The Classics line definitely brought in new fans that may not have grown up with He-Man. People are making a lot of noise about this and I’m thinking we will all be surprised (in a good way) with what happens.
About cancelling, I don’t see a whole lot of people talking about cancelling. Some of it may even had been the shock and disappointment of thinking the line was done and have since changed their minds. Realistically all that cancelling would do is open up a bunch of figures for an end of Matty vault opening sale.
i was going to cancel just out of pure disappointment but i have changed my mind with the small bit of hope the line continues .
Retail won’t touch a brand that has 2 cancelled lines within a couple of years of each other. Do you know how retail actually works? A toy company doesn’t just decide one day to send stock to a store, but the big retailers have to show interest and support it. Even if they did buy into the line we’d get 2-4 figures per year just like the now cancelled Classics TMNT line.
You expect 100% unique sculpts on every figure? Do you know how much the steel molds cost? A company would want to make money on the figures and not lose it! :laugh I think you apply your ‘own’ personal wants and collecting habits and expect a company to work in a way that completely suits you. I’m afraid that’s just not how business works.
I don’t see how the subscription is a con? We were told exactly what we were signing up for in the subscription and that’s exactly what you are getting. If your a fan of ThunderCats you will keep your sub and be grateful we got what we did. Each to their own I guess, but I won’t be cancelling mine 
I mean we don’t know how well the subs sold in the first place and Mattel could have easily said the sub didn’t sell in the numbers we’d hoped for, but we will still go ahead with the 2016 line and then that’s it. Heck they could have only sold Lion-O and Jackalman on Matty to test the waters and then not botherd with the line. Fact is we are getting exactly what we signed up to.

Licenses aren’t just dished out at the drop of an hat. You have to remember that:
1/WB own ThunderCats so a deal needs to be sorted with them.
2/Mattel currently hold the toy licensing rights so it would require Mattel to be allowed by WB to sub-license the rights to Super7.
3/Mattel owns the MOTUC tooling library so an agreement needs to be worked out with that.
Things like this take time to get sorted as a LOT of legalities are involved in the process. You make everything sound so simple but I assure you it isn’t.
and don’t be such a downer on everything all the time! It’s better to remain positive than continuously assume the worst of everything

Actually he never commented on the ThunderCats line being over as the 2016 Mattel line has nothing to do with Super7. That was conjecture on Pixel Dan’s and TNI part (TNI who are famous for posting rumour as fact and getting way ahead of themselves)
He stated that the ThunderCats license is more complicated because Mattel do not own the rights to ThunderCats (unlike MOTU where they do) He never ruled out looking into those ThunderCats rights but the fact is they simply don’t have the rights to ThunderCats. It’s just fans jumping the gun as per usual.

Or convince Super7 not to bother trying to obtain the license if fans are no longer interested in the first wave. I mean even if Super7 got the license, there is no guarantee they would have years and years of figures either. For niche collector lines companies need the fans support. I’m not telling anyone what to do with their subs as that’s your own choice, but cancelling is hardly the way to show support for future years.

Agreed, didn’t really flesh out my thoughts on that. Obviously cancelling is the worst way to show support. I was going to make a point that cancelling and opening up the figures for a Matty sales dump would hurt the future and potentially mean that people would have to play catch up if they cancelled and missed out. I really really want to think that most subscribers won’t up and cancel and wait to see what S7 is up to. Could potentially be a very exciting time for T-cats fans.

Does anyone know if they are relaunching Filmation He-man/Skeletor under the Super7 brand. As a Matty noob, I’m not sure how they release variants and such. I wouldn’t even mind getting a Prince Adam. Perhaps, they could rerelease w/ Gringer? Does anyone know how they work? I really don’t want to pay $125 for a $25 figure.
Thanks for posting that video. Interesting to see what a little doubt and uncertainty brings out in people. Some people here need to take a deep breath or two. Or you can keep stewing over theories about how Flynn’s doing PR for Matty, how this action figure line is doomed, etc. Though it might be easier on the heart to just be Zen about it.
As Flynn himself said, this news has been out for what, a week, a few days? Somehow, “We’re not sure what’s going to happen yet,” has become something much more sinister and conniving.
Exactly. There’s a lot of entitlement in the “I’m cancelling my credit card” line of argument. I sure didn’t see, “Wave 2 is guaranteed,” when I paid for Wave 1. There’s a difference between “I want/I expect” and “I was contractually promised.”
Look, it would suck if the line got cancelled, but the figures that are coming out this year look awesome (assuming no QC issues). I’m just going to enjoy them. Whatever else happens happens. Or not. It may be months, if not more, before we hear a confirmation…if there is one.
Then again, Matty probably asked me to say all this.
