Since 2012 Lucasfilm is now owned by Disney Corp and is doing a new SW trilogy with the first of the new movies coming Christmas 2015.
Now that Lucas is hands off the company , he is not writing and directing the new films as he maybe a unique visionary storyteller but damn his writing sucks badly and got kind of stiff in directing. They hired proper writers/directors this time like he did with Empire and Jedi, this could bring the franchise back on it’s knees as the last 3 films disappointed me very much and I want this to be as good as the OT.
The only problem with a new trilogy now set after the OT is that it will ruin the continuity of the excellent books set after the OT.
Although I do agree the writing, directing and casting of the PT was awful.
Not sure what to think of JJ Abrams directing though. His Star Trek flms were okay but nothing special. My main problem with them was the plots.
Well I wouldn’t call myself a huge Star Wars fan but I certainly enjoyed the movies so I am happy that new movies in the franchise are coming out. Something to look forward to!
I guess it’s too early to comment on how they will turn out. I wonder if they will be more lighter in tone like the Marvel movies (Avengers, Iron Man, Thor etc.) or dark, gritty and moody like the DC movies (Batman Begins, Man of Steel etc.)
Do you think Lucas also destroyed Indiana Jones too besides SW with the fourth Indy movie? that was terrible.
And don’t you just hate it for the last years since the actual SE of the classic trilogy came to theaters in 97, he has been torturing, butchering and mutilating the original films to no end and refusing to give us the original cuts even on blu-ray. I boycotted the boxset in 2011 as i refused to buy it until the original cuts are included.
However when i heard the news Lucas has retired and sold it to Disney, i was rejoicing as every other film fan/SW fan/film preservation fan did as he will no longer destroy the original films anymore and now that he is finally gone and away from his company, wouldn’t it be nice to see Disney get the original cuts of the OT out of the Lucasfilm vault and do some 3k or 4k restorations to the original films in their original unbastarnized and unedited theatrical cuts on HD for blu-ray? they can have our money.
Well I have the original cut movies on VHS and the DVDs with the original theatrical cuts included so I am past caring what they do with Star Wars anymore. Lucas could not even leave the soundtrack to the Ewoks cartoon alone for it’s DVD release.
The fourth Indy movie wasn’t too bad. No where near as good as the other movies. But in terms of keeping with the series it is a lot better than the SW prequels were.
