I wonder if Lion-o had an actual mom or the king just mate to have an offspring to secure the lineage and doesnt get married, if the latter aint the case woulda been cool if they had mentior her or if she even was alive or dead. It seems wierd Claudius adopting Tygra cause usually couples are the one who adopts unless Claudius felt generous or saw something in kid Tygra or if Tygra got adopted when he was a baby(since we dont know for sure when Tygra got adopted), maybe it was a familys friend or found him abandoned.
The thing about Tygra i really want to be a little more complicated. I just don’t want it to be the “normal thing” about lost kids you know.
The Tigers looks to be very strong just as the Lions aswell. I wonder…
Me too. I want a well-thought, well-told story for him, not a classic soap opera.
I like to think that Claudus adopted Tygra in the hopes that he would grow up to be Lion-O’s most loyal general or something, someone who would love him and be loyal to him beyond mere duty.
I’m of the very opposite mind.
I want Claudus to have taken Tygra in for Tygra and Lion-o had nothing to do with it.
I think this pushes a button for me because my mom was adopted by a wonderful guy who raised her and treated her like his own after he married my grandmother.
I’d also like to see Tygra being adopted for himself, maybe even before Lion-o was born (possible as Tygra’s older, maybe Claudus adopted him as a baby or a 1-year old cub).
Guess I’m just a horrible person or something.
I’d like to add that I also want to think that Claudus loved his sons equally. But it doesn’t make sense to me that a king would adopt a boy who is older than his oldest biological son and actually keep him by his side and present him to his people as his son. It’ll cause problems, as it did for Tygra and Lion-O. So I like the idea of Claudus adopting Tygra for a reason. If he just wanted to take care of an orphan, he could have done so without putting him in the spotlight as the son who cannot be King because he’s not a lion. It just feels a little cruel to me.
Hope I’m making sense, I feel like I’m rambling.
That’s a good point of you, that’s why I hope he adopted Tygra before Lion-o was born.
Otherwise it would have been cruel indeed. If he wanted to adopt an orpha once Lion-o was born knowing he would have no chance to be king, he could have adopted an orphan who was younger thn his already born child, so that Lion-o would be the first in line to the throne anyway.
Gotta say that I really love the whole sibling rivalry thing going on between Lion-O and Tygra in this series. Claudus even drives it more home to Lion-O by chastising him and stating that Tygra would make a better king.
Oh and I dug the flashback of Tygra whooping up on young Lion-O whilst sparring for some reason too. ![]()
That was mean from Claudus, for both kids IMO.
For Lion-o by telling him he is not as good as he should be, and for Tygra for letting him dream, like giving him a candy he can’t eat (“yeah, you should be knig, but you won’t… suck it”).
Yeah, it was.
In Claudus’s defense, it happens.
I’m the oldest of six, so I know. It’s just parents being human. It happens when parents aren’t too happy with a child either. Usually in those cases where what they’d really love to do is throw a kid over their knee or throttle the little brat.
Not like I’ve ever been on the receiving end of a 'why can’t you be more like your (insert sibling name here). My mother took me accidently launching a model rocket through her kitchen window just fine. ![]()
Even if Claudus adopted Tygra before Lion-O was born, he still would have known that Tygra couldn’t be king, ever. Because Tygra is a tiger, and only lions can be king.
Heirs have to be part of the bloodline, but what would’ve happened if there were no heirs?
Interesting question. Maybe the Sword of Omens would choose who would rule?
I’m guessing a young lion would have been found and adopted once Claudus realised that he couldn’t father children, since it sounded like only lions can become king in the last episode. Or maybe Panthro only assumed that the throne was reserved for lions back then?
He could be simply making jokes about the fact that Lions have always dominated Thundera. I doubt there is any hard or fast rule about who must be aire other than traditional lineage. But if the bloodline is severed someone else must step in.
That could be true.
I know. I meant to say that I hope Claudus adopted Tygra before LIon-o was born so there wouldn’t be a hint that he adopted Tygra for some special reason, like being Lion-o’s general.
If he adopted Tygra for that, even when he claimed to love both the same, Tygra would have always been destined to be the king’s servant someway (ok, you may argue that generals are not servants, but you get my point, right? ;)). Like that movie “My Sister’s Keeper”, in which a girl is born just so she could give her sister he medula (I haven’t seen teh movie, but my sister told me what it is about lol).
If he adopted Tygra before Lion-o’s birth, it would give us a hint he adopted for Tygra himself… he might not even be sure he would have a son… he could perfectly have a daughter, or nothing at all.
I was thinking of that too ![]()
Good point.
Add in why would they bother testing Lion-o if bloodline alone was enough?
I have a feeling the sword picks the king and not the other way around. Pathro and Grune simply didn’t have that information. ![]()
Oh, man, that question’s been burning for a long time: Who is, or was, Lion-O’s mother? From what I saw of that crowd gathered around Claudus to see off Panthro and Grune, I’d guess Thunderian commoners have kids the old-fashioned way, so it would stand to reason that Thunderian royalty/aristocracy would do the same. In that respect, Claudus would have to have had either a queen consort and/or a palace concubine in order to produce Lion-O; real-life emperors and kings did it that way for centuries to keep the throne in the family. I’m thinking Claudus probably did have a queen, but for some reason they couldn’t have kids, so they adopted Tygra, probably the child of a high-ranking tiger ThunderCat couple who Claudus and his wife knew and were good friends with. This couple might have asked them to be godparents to Tygra, therefore ensuring that Claudus and his spouse would take raise Tygra if anything happened to his biological parents, shortly after which the couple dies. Several years later Claudus and his queen are stunned to find they’re finally going to have a child of their own. But the queen doesn’t survive childbirth and Lion-O is left without a mother, but he has Claudus, Tygra and, yes, Snarf. And it’s seventeen years that this new ThunderCats series begins. ![]()
