I bought another Lion-O, because it was a good deal for a complete one. So, today when I received it, I noticed that they differ a bit… The one I had has a glossy paint, that shines and reflects light, the new has a “non-glossy” paint (sorry, don’t know how to call it in English).
I also noticed that this new one has a more detailed thundercats symbol and that the color that were used as BASE for the head and body differ:
The old one’s head base color is RED, so to make the face ORANGE, the face was painted with this color.
The new one’s head base color is ORANGE, so the red paint applied was in the HAIR. This is cool, because you won’t have a “red” nose if it chips.
At first I thought that this could be “one american, one european”, but they both have “1985 telepix,LCI, Twolf, LJN toys”. The only difference is that the new has “D1” on both feet.
I am attaching in picture so if someone can help me out telling where each of them came from, I would appreciate it!
Now about LORIMAR… I have acquired a JAGA that says on his foot “LJN Toys LTD, 1987 LORIMAR-TELEPIX, LCI T.WOLF” and I was wondering.. Is his a American or a UK release? I found it strange because it’s the only Thundercat I have that is from LORIMAR (except the companions) and I haven’t found INFO about it.
Is it because it’s a 1987 release?
I also have a LORIMAR Thunderclaw and I can’t fit my 1985 Telepix Panthro on it!
The Lion-o on the left is the series 2 release, while the one on the right is a series 1 release I believe. I’d (at a guess) say both are American in origin.
As for Lorimar and Telepictures, they were purely the owners of the Thundercats property along with Leisure Concepts Inc (now known as 4Kids Entertainment) Non of the 3 are toy companies.
As for why the toys have differing copyright marks, it’s probably down to when each toy was produced. I’m not sure exactly when Lorimar and Telepictures merged without looking it up. Perhaps the Jaga was produced after they merged?
I have to look at my Lion O’s with battery offer but i want to say that the one on the right could be a series 1 Lion O. One way to tell if it was a series 1 battery offer Lion O is by the hair. The red hair is actually more maroon rather than the bright red we are used to seeing.
