I knew you lot would bring up Chima sooner or later. Even my little bro agrees that the main lion looks a lot like Lion-O, only squarer.
From the looks of it, nearly no one watched the episode on last night. While Toonzone’s talkback threads usually have a good amount of conversation, the one for it was just someone posting the synopsis and also stating how they had little faith in the show and one reply saying that the episode wasn’t good. I’m beginning to think the show may have a shorter life than ThunderCats 2011 and significantly so.
I don’t know if this is a ThunderCats rip-off, but the coincidence is too blatant to disregard too.
This will be a successful franchise, and the reason why is the Lego name.
As anyone well knows, Lego=Money, and there’s no shortage of not only children, but also adult collectors who are going to support this property no matter how much those little plastic bricks cost.
Lego had competition in the form of Kreo, and they had one of the biggest franchises of all time, Transformers, and still they couldn’t outdo Lego.
Since they’ve done other popular culture lines as another poster mentioned such as with the Lord of the Rings and franchises like Batman and Harry Potter, since WB owns Batman and Potter, maybe we’ll get a ThunderCats line.
I’d buy a Lego Cat’s Lair, and tank, if nothing else for the minifigures. You can never have enough Tygra and Cheetara! :tygra: :cheetara:
Actually, many people seem to be disappointed with the show overall. Plus TMNT’s Lego figures are most likely kicking Chima’s sorry ass when it comes to sales.
I don’t collect Lego, but from what I have seen in the shops, Chima does look like their weakest property compared to TMNT, LOTR, Star Wars, Marvel, normal Lego etc.
I would be tempted to get some TMNT Lego toys…I still have a big bucket of Lego and a huge Lego castle from the 80’s.
Actually, that doesn’t seem to be the case with Chima at all. Its premiere ended up being the #1 telecast among boys 6-11 for that night.
TV.com rates it quite high as does TvByTheNumbers/Zap2It. (Chima has an avg 4.9 rating among viewers there while the 2011 reboot has a 1.3) Amazon reviews also seem to praise the series as does TVGuide.
LEGO’s TMNT toys seem to be about equal to Chima as far as sales.
The majority of those upset with Chima seem to be fans of the Thundercat reboot.
I should have phrased that differently. When I say weakest property I mean if I was going to buy any Lego toys I would be more inclined to buy any of the toys from their other lines instead of Chima.
However, the ratings for the pilot were very low with only 1.7 million (if I remember correctly) viewers, especially for being advertised so much. And a lot of Ninjago fans are overall disappointed in the series due to its “extremely childish vibe and bad pacing” (direct quote). Only the people at Lego get to see what is selling, so no one can really judge that. I agree with Mark in saying I’d much rather buy TMNT or other stuff over Chima, and that’s not because I have some BS animosity towards Chima for being a “ripoff.” I genuinely think it’s a bad show just meant to get the cash that ThunderCats didn’t, and that’s not what TV shows should be. I get that they do need to profit somehow but you shouldn’t make shows for the sole purpose of getting money where another show didn’t, especially when it’s that blatant. It wouldn’t surprise me of they threw together this show right after the reboot was cancelled because the quality of it makes it seem as if it was.
You are off on the viewers by about 7 million and change. The premiere of Chima had around 8.29 million viewers.
Lol, I never said only the Thundercats fans are upset with Chima, just that the majority upset seem to be TC reboot fans.

That means it beat The Legend of Korra, TMNT, Adventure Time, AND Regular Show for ratings and would possibly be the highest cartoon viewership ever if it got an 8.29. I can guarantee you it did not get that or there would be parades in its honor for getting that. Every single thing I’ve seen said it got a 1.7, which is low, but very believable considering every show on CN minus Adventure Time and Regular Show pretty much gets a 1.5 or less now that DC Nation is just reruns.

According to a Turner press release, Chima did earn the top spot and according to LEGO, the series did bank about 8.2 million viewers.
If you don’t like the numbers, you’ll have to take it up with them. I have no control over them.
EDIT: It takes a big man to admit he made a mistake and I’ll admit I made a mistake. I misread the LEGO statement. LEGO claims that Chima has garnered 8.2 million viewers SINCE its premire, not DURING the premiere and that the premiere pulled in about 2 million viewers.
The new episode got about 1.5 million viewers. Not dropping like the NS did, but there’s really not much to lose considering the heavily-advertised pilot only got about 1.8 million viewers.
Has anyone here seen the show and could comment / give a review? I dont wanna be an arse to everybody here but i feel like if most people here watched it they are just gonna say something unfair as it “copys and rips-off” Thundercats.
I gave my two cents strictly from a neutral standpoint as I was kind of looking forward to checking it out. I only drew on the obvious similarities between TCats and Chima, that’s it. I only watched the first episode, but it didn’t really hook me in; characters seem bland, dialogue was weak, and pacing was odd. Its supposed to be for kids I know, but heck I’d say watch Spongebob over Chima, at least its got nice flow to it (at least earlier seasons).
To be neutral, the pacing was rather bad at some points. The show overall seems like it can’t decide if it’s aimed at toddlers or pre-teens. You can always see what they’re trying to do with the story, but it’s done in such a forced and contrived way that it isn’t very entertaining. Ultimately, it’s very childish and not in an immature way. It makes the viewer feel like they’re 5 years old because it acts like you know nothing. It’s basically another show thrown together to make a quick buck. If anything, Ninjago fans should be more upset than some of us are.

I am not saying this to annoy NS fans but this appeals to the market it’s aimed at a lot better than the NS did.
Compared to the NS it is everything it wasn’t, it had likeable characters, a heroic leader, bright colours and lots of action.
It had a simple story, introduced all the characters, explained the back story, and like a toy commercial packed in as many products as possible.
I do not mean any of this as a good thing.
This will only appeal to very young children for a very short time, it is pathetic.
Wow Mark M you must have been watching a different show. This one was horrible even by Ninjago standards. I know it is aimed at little kids but instead of dumbing it down for it’s audience, it treats it’s audience as if they were barely thinking animals. This show is mind rot and actually at least on par with reality tv shows. I have seen some horrible pieces of crap in my day but it’s like cartoon network is trying to make the worst shows they can and get rid of all there good shows.

It is horrible and very dumbed down and the animation is terrible I agree. It is one of the worst toy based cartoons I have ever watched.
However it is only made to appeal to 3-10 year olds to buy Lego toys. It is nothing more than a 22 minute toy commercial showcasing the toys.
It’s not a show with good writing or characters, it doesn’t even compare to the NS in that regard.
As I said in my earlier comment, in regards to doing nothing more than to appeal to young children to sell toys the shows does what it’s supposed to.
Although I would greatly question how long even a young child over 5 would be interested in it.
I am no fan of the NS, but at least it treated it’s audience to having some intelligence.
Simply put, Chima is mindless crap.
Haven’t watched the show, but I gotta say if they’re aiming for kids 3-10 they’re not very smart considering most of the toys are recommended for ages 8-14. The youngest age I see on any of them is 6-12.
It’s lego. Small parts and all.
Based on that one episode I doubt any 8 year old or older would watch the show.
If that is the age marked on the toys then I guess they are really appealing to the wrong market…but then again Lego toys are Lego toys to most parents and they probably won’t take to much notice of the age marked on the toy box.
