Larry Kenney movie petition? :)

Hi guys,

I’ve seen on the Cartoon forum a lot of our members calling for someone such as ourselves to start up a petition for WB to feature Larry Kenney as the voice of Lion-O in the proposed ThunderCats CGI movie, in the same vein as Peter Cullen voiced Optimus Prime in Transformers. I find myself wondering if setting up a petition about this would be a good thing for us to do?

One reason I wonder about this is because a) I genuinely would like to see Larry get that part, I think he deserves it for his loyalty to the ThunderCats property and his fantastic interaction with the ThunderCats fanbase, and b) being brutally honest and somewhat mercenary, it could serve as a means of getting fans of ThunderCats and animation in general to visit our site in order to sign the petition, and if they visit our site for one thing, they might browse round and look at other stuff too!

I don’t know what you guys think about this - I imagine HTML-wise it would be a bit of a nightmare to set up as it would IMO require some kind of form complete with e-mail verification (a la the petition on Angie’s site for a release of the ThunderCats soundtrack on CD). However, if we could do it I think we’d be doing a terrific service to the ThunderCats online community - what do you think?

Take care…

I cant speak for Angie but being that it is hosted on her site I think she may be able to help us out. Im all for the petition and even a permanent spot on the front page, perhaps off to the side

Well I asked Jerry if an online petition would help any, and he said while it would be cool for people to show support for Larry, it wouldn’t really be a main reason for their decisions on voices. Basically it would be a 50/50 chance he would get the part regardless of the petition.

But if you guys want to do a petition to show Larry we want him back as Lion-O, I can whip something up.

Please do Manny I think it would gather a lot of signatures and will at least show Warner Brothers we want him to get the part

Chris here…

Hey Manny, thank you for this excellent info. I agree with MannyC, if you could whip something up I think that would be an excellent thing to do, if only for Larry to see!

On a personal note, I’d love to see such a petition get thousands of signatures just because my ex-girlfriend used to regularly rip the you-know-what out of Larry’s voice acting to me telling me how bad she thought it was, it was a point of contention between us - even though she’d be unlikely to see it, nonetheless it would make me feel good!

Take care…

Well, I went ahead and set up the petition script, which is the same as what Angie used for the soundtrack petition.

It’s located here:

http://www.thundercatslair.org/phpPETITION

I’m going to make it fit into the TCL design though. May be Kyle can make a cool graphic for the petition? I’m not good at making custom graphics. And may be Chris can write something that summarizes what the petition is about? You’re better with words than I am.

We should also add requirements for the petition like to enter your real name and an authentic email address. If we’re going to do this, I want to make sure both Jerry and the WB take us seriously.

Chris here…

I completely agree with all of your comments, Manny my friend, and would be happy to write something for the petition page! Let’s see here…

In 2007, rumours began emerging that Warner Bros were planning to revive the 1980s animated classic ThunderCats, a show fondly remembered by fans of animation, action and adventure. ThunderCats fans number in their millions, ranging from young adults who grew up with the 'Cats in the 1980s to younger fans introduced to the series via its success in the 1990s on Cartoon Network. From this, a thriving online community of ThunderCats fans has grown steadily year by year, with the formation of many exciting and successful ThunderCats websites, including this one, www.thundercatslair.org.

Towards the end of 2007, buoyed by the success of the movie Transformers (a live-action re-imagining of another 1980s animated classic), reports began coming to light that Warner Bros were deadly serious about bringing ThunderCats to the big screen and to a new audience, in the form of a fully CGI-animated movie. The reaction from fans was very positive, with millions anxious to see some more high-octaine adventures from their favourite felines!

One of the most fundamentally important elements of the original ThunderCats animated series was the voice acting of actor Larry Kenney, who provided the voice of the show’s lead character, Lion-O. As fans watched Lion-O grow over the course of the series’ 130 episodes, Larry’s voice became synonymous with the character, with its warmth, depth, power and clarity. To millions of ThunderCats fans around the world, Larry Kenney is Lion-O. Larry himself is immensely proud of the work he did on ThunderCats, and is a credit to the series, regularly interacting with fans all over the world via e-mail.

We here at www.thundercatslair.org believe that, as Warner Bros prepare to bring back ThunderCats in the form of a new movie, the only voice actor that Warner Bros should consider casting in the role of Lion-O is Larry Kenney! To this end, we have set up this petition for fans to sign and thus express their desire to see Larry reprise his most famous role. If you loved the ThunderCats animated series and want to see Larry Kenney return, please show your support and sign this petition!

With our thanks,
The team at www.thundercatslair.org

How does that sound?! BTW, I left a lot of coding in there (rather than using this Board’s software) because I thought it would be easier to just copy-and-paste straight in - however, I can adjust that here if needed…

EDIT: Hey Manny, I just checked out what you’ve done to that petition page and it is amazing my friend, fantastic work!

http://www.thundercatslair.org/phpPETITION/

The only error I realise I made with the coding thing is that I didn’t input the code for making the text that says www.thundercatslair.org a hyperlink, i.e. it should read www.thundercatslair.org - do you think that ought to be added?

Once again, what a fantastic job you’ve done with this, Manny - I’m so looking forward to this going live!

Take care…

Cool! Almost done transferring the code into our layout.

We need to spread the word EVERYWHERE. We can also make buttons so that fans can put it on their own website/blog/message board.

I’ll let everyone know when the scripts are working correctly.

One of us needs to place a thread over at he-man.org Im sure we could gather tons of signature from there

Chris here…

Fantastic, loving the way this is motoring, guys! I agree, once this is online we can go all out plugging this - like I say, I think Larry deserves it!

EDIT: Just refreshed the page, MannyF, and my word is it looking fine!! Loving the addition of the Larry image and the header button, beautiful stuff!

Take care…

I think everything looks good as far as I know. I see that MannyC has already signed his name.

I made a subdomain for the petition instead of using the phpPETITION url (confusing because it is case sensitive). This url is much easier to remember:

http://petition.thundercatslair.org

I’ll do a little more testing and we can make it public in a little bit.

Oh and we should also let Larry know about it as well.

EDIT: Let’s do this: We can test the petition by having the team sign first. If all of us can do it, then I guess it’s successful and we can go live.

Chris here…

AWESOME work, Manny my friend! MannyF = genius!

Yeah, good point - why didn’t I think of that?! :duh: I’m sure Larry will be pleased to see it online!

Well, I already signed it just this second (before you edited your post, LOL!), so that’s me down! It worked fine for me, everything (including the e-mail I received, and the “view signatures” page) looks to work brilliantly!

EDIT: LOL, and now I see that Nadja has signed it too!

Take care…

Awesome! I’ll try creating some petition buttons…

I was gone all weekend, so pardon my coming in late to this

I was gonna say, the script I used was freeware - you guys got it looking good. Although, you might have to leave those ads they scripted into it in there. That’s usually the deal with freeware and yes, it is tacky but they also want their credit I suppose.

Petitions in general can be interesting endeavors, and they may not always help - but like the bernie hoffer thing, can’t hurt to try!
The difference with the Transformers issue was, the way I understood it, the makers went out seeking fan opinion. This is kinda the other way around. Although one thing this site has in its favor is that it’s in communication with the project director…so at least they’ll know it’s here. You guys are definitely better off hosting it.

Good luck.

How soon can we post the link at he-man.org???

The site says it’s 100% branded free and it’s totally customizable, but I think I’ll add a link going back to the software site. It’s the right thing to do anyways.

I guess it looks okay. I have some plans to spread the word on this petition…I’m going to wait a little bit before I set that plan into action though.

Did you want to make the thread on He-Man.org Manny? I’ll go ahead and make the thread on our forum and the site main page.

Hey Manny if you can write up a thread at He-Man.org that would be cool as i think it should gather some signatures as well as more site exposure

The site says it’s 100% branded free and it’s totally customizable, but I think I’ll add a link going back to the software site. It’s the right thing to do anyways.

Ah, sounds cool. Tell the truth, I’ve been so short on time lately I didn’t look that closely to know for sure and just kept the ads for the hell of it. It’s nice of you to add a link, and cool that you can choose to put something less obnoxious than the image links that came with it

Oh yeah, and I’ll promote the petition on my site if you’d like. Let me know.

That would be cool Purrsia. Thank you.

Chris here…

So far so good with this petition - seems like we’re almost averaging 1 signature per hour, which actually I wouldn’t have said was bad, provided it continues at that rate!

One place I thought it might be worth asking if this petition could be linked to was on Larry’s own website, www.larry-kenney.com. I don’t know if Larry would be comfortable with this, but if (when) we give him a heads-up about the petition, it might be worth suggesting this to him - what do you think?

Take care…
