Also, I seem to recall that there was some discussion of also having a giveaway this week of the autographed photo that Larry sent to us, again to tie in with his birthday - has anybody had any more thoughts about this and how it may be implemented? I’d definitely be in favour of such a plan!
I agree we need to come up with something real quick. I thought his birthday was next week but its tomorrow. For now all we can do is a giveaway for the signed picture. The thing is we need ideas to get as much participation as possible and to get new members to join.
Right now my mind is just blank and i cant come up with anything. The best i can come up with is to have members to post something showing how big of a Thundercats fan they are wether it is a drawing, video, short story…I know some people may not be as talented as others but thats where creativity has to come in. The submissions will be narrowed down to lets say 10 and then members will vote who the best one is. Please guys we need to put this together ASAP. Chris if you can do a short write up for the giveaway that would be awesome.
Yep, if I’m honest, this is the idea I like the best - it takes the “judgement” element out of this and makes it more of an open playing field, which I think is probably a good thing. Not, I hasten to add, that I’m against the idea of having competitions, but for something like this (i.e., a giveaway rather than a competition), my vote would be to go with Neil’s idea, and to give it a plug on the front page of the site at the same time as the interview goes live!
Thats cool but we should note that not just a “Happy Birthday Larry” will do. Perhaps we should add that members should at least attempt to write something more meaningful than just Happy Birthday
Fair comment, I definitely think that creativity in posting in the thread and such should be encouraged, although realistically there’s a finite number of ways to say “Happy Birthday” to someone. Nonetheless, I get where you’re coming from, MannyC - if we get 100 new folks sign up to try and win the autograph, and all each of them posts is “Happy bday”, it kind-of defeats the object, LOL!
I’d suggest starting up the birthday thread about the draw, and put in the starting post that “Creative and/or meaningful messages are very much encouraged!” Even though I’d suggest making the draw random rather than merit-based, nonetheless you could mildly intimate without explicitly stating that post quality would actually make a difference!
Allright Chris very cool. Would you be able to do a quick writeup to advertise the giveaway. You can post it on the main page and i can perhaps send out a mass email with what you post on the front page.
Today is the 60th birthday of Larry Kenney, the voice actor who portrayed Lion-O, as well as many other characters who appeared in the ThunderCats cartoon! Sounds like a plan! Where shall we place the thread? Even though technically a birthday thread should go in general discussion, IMO for this one we should put it on the Cartoon & Comics Board, as otherwise I think it might get overlooked. What say you, my friend?
One thing I’d mention is that, in the updating of the front page, it seems to have replaced Kyle’s entry heralding the new Encyclopedia illustrations with an old entry of MannyC’s where he was attempting to post that up the way Kyle wanted. Why the hell has that happened?!
