I am a huge DC fan and have been wanting a live-action Justice League movie for a long time now. I know that DC has been planning this for a while now and with the Avengers just coming out I know they will want to try to compete with it as soon as possible. I think because of that they will try to rush all their movies to get it out and it won’t be the best. They are planning on a new Wonderwoman, Aquaman, Superman and Flash movie plus a Batman re-boot. What are your guys’ thoughts on the movie?

I remember there was talk several years ago about a Justice League movie that would have been directed by George Miller (Mad Max, Babe) and would have been all motion-capture. Warners though decided to shelve that as Christopher Nolan was in the middle of his Batman trilogy, and wanted to wait until he was done before they decided to move forward on that. They’re probably kicking themselves for that now, once they saw the runaway success of The Avengers.
Now according to some news sources, after The Man of Steel, Warners announced that there wouldn’t be any more DC Comics-related movies until 2015, which is when they plan to release their JLA movie. The intent, it’s said, is to build awareness of the characters over time in other media like video games and cartoons. They’ve already started with Lego Batman 2: DC Superheroes, which features a who’s who of the DC Universe. And they plan to continue that with the fighting game Injustice: Gods Among Us which is due out next year. And then of course there’s the DC Nation block of programming on CN.
Now at first blush, this may seem like a bad idea as it looks like Marvel is leaving DC in the dust; going full-bore with new movie releases like the upcoming sequels to Iron Man, Thor and Captain America and their Guardians of the Galaxy movie in the next two years. But I actually like this approach DC is taking in declaring a temporary moratorium; taking their time to make sure they get it right. Their earlier “keeping up with the Joneses” approach IMO is part of what hurt Green Lantern. And instead now they’re doing the opposite, which I look at as “slow and steady wins the race.” More does not always equal better. And I’m afraid that sooner or later, this winning streak Marvel is on with them putting out so many movies is that the level of quality will decline and one of their movies is going to flop and flop horribly.
And DC’s using other media - which also could include a viral approach - would not only be more practical, but also more cost-effective. Rather than placing all their bets on yet another multimillion dollar blockbuster which may or may not do well, and instead just cultivate brand awareness through other media venues, I think will reap greater rewards in the long run. And I think what will happen afterwards will in fact be the reverse of what Marvel has done: DC will release the JLA movie first, and then do the solo superhero movies later.
