Welp, just got volume 1 of thundercats in the mail yesterday. I love it! I defenitely hope they have something new in works for the thundercats property.

Chris here…

First of all, a big “Welcome to the Boards”! I hope you’ll stick around and partake in some of the great conversations we have over here!

Glad to know you enjoyed S1V1 - out of curiosity, had you ever seen ThunderCats prior to its release on DVD? It would be great to hear of new fans coming along thanks to the DVD releases!

Once again, many thanks for signing up to the Boards!

Take care…

Prior to the release of the DVDs I saw only a few episodes back when they were being shown on toonami. I remembered the showing really being sweet and bought the first season as soon as I had the extra change. 10 years ago I would have talked about nothing but Transformers. Then about 5 years ago He-Man found his way into my life and now Thundercats have there own spot as well. Personally I wish He-Man would have had the animation crew that Thundercats did because it is amazing.

Oh and a question: What year did the thundercats movie come out, is it on dvd, and is it any good?

Chris here…

If we’re talking about the 1980s He-Man cartoon having the ThunderCats’ animation team, I definitely agree - whilst I think Filmation’s animation is lovely, IMO the cartoon would have survived better if it had more contemporary-looking animation. The storytelling on the original was so entertaining IMO, having Rankin-Bass level animation would have kept it relevant to new generations of kids!

“ThunderCats Ho! The Movie” was basically an edited together version of the 5-part episode “ThunderCats Ho!” that kicked off season 2. Whilst the “movie” version itself is not available on DVD, the five episodes from which it is comprised are available on the Season 2 Volume 1 DVD boxed set. Trust me, seeing the episodes as stand-alone episodes rather than cut together as a movie is the better way of seeing them - there’s a good 10 - 15 minutes of footage missing from the “movie” version that I’ve seen for the first time this year thanks to the DVDs!

Hope that helps!

Take care…

Hey, that is very good information to know! Perhaps warner bros has plans on making a thundercats movie here soon? We will have to see how Transformers and Teenage mutant ninja turtles does. Fingers crossed!!!

Chris here…

Be good to see, and I think you’re right to say that TMNT and TF will be big deciding factors in whether or not a ThunderCats movie ever came to pass - I had also heard rumours of a(nother) live-action MOTU movie, but thought I’d heard that had been scrapped…?

I’ve got to say too, I worry how well a ThunderCats movie would translate to the big screen - it would either be a joy to behold or it would lose something in translation. For me the cartoon was so perfect I don’t know how it could be topped - but, it would still be great to see ThunderCats get that level of recognition!

Take care…

I have to say lately with all the comics that have been made into movies i would like to say that if there were ever a movie made that it wouldnt be so bad. I mean look at X-Men and Spiderman…both well made IMO

I totally agree with Manny’s opinion on the X-men and Spiderman movies… very well done. It would definitely be interesting to see how well they would do on a live-action movie… however, I too have my doubts. I just look forward to seeing WB getting more Thundercat stuff out there, and hope that it will be done well…

Just an heads up guys, that all the posts about the new Superman film have been moved to the Superman Returns talkback thread in the general discussion forum
