I have to say it. The new toy line is atrocious! They look cheap and tacky, WAY too expensive and did I mention crap!!! No care was or has been taken while painting them! I will not be buying the toys which in turn can’t do the series any good.. Funny how LJN can get it right and bandai make a mess of it!

Bring back Kenner because the toys of today suck!!

I take the new line over that any day. I love my LJN’s, but they’re inferior to what Bandai has produced. (Can’t say on the vehicles and playsets though.)

Stiff figures with no poseability and little resemblence to the characters they’re supposed to be based on. Plus don’t get me started on the accesories. It’s beyond me how the heck they could get the Sword of Omens and Claw Shield completely wrong. Atleast the Bandai equivalents, though most of a solid color, actually have colors the items have in show.

I don’t mean any disrespect. But you’re taking it way to seriously. Also, be grateful prices where you live seem cheaper than in the states.

I disagree with the new toy line…

LJNs being Inferior, they bludy should be.. Theres 20 odd years difference in them…

And yes, i prefer toys like LJNs and even Kenners from the 80s and 90s.. than new toys of today. Toys of today are cheaply made and churned out and sold on at silly prices, probably making huge profits!!

The LJN toys were way ahead of there time!!! and i cant see why some companies have to change figures so drastically. Take todays Hasbros toy line for example.. There smaller than the old GI Joes and look awful.. Yet they charge nearly £10GBP a piece..

The weapons from LJN are perfect considering the era!! Not the crappy plastic whip and plastics non moving nunchukas like today..

Toy companies could do so much better…

Id happily spend twice the price if the figure was actually decent..

I understand the disappointment in the 4" line, but you should try to find the 8" Classics with good paint apps as they are really good figures. The 6" figures from the new line are great as well.

I have the 8" and the 6" and find they are both amazing toys. I have alot of the old run and the new toys surpass the old ones by a landslide. Every day I can pose my 8" figures diffrently, and never get bored of them.

Dont be so negitive, its not all bad.

Interesting one that the packaging on the role play claw and mini sword is different to the USA one as the uk has it as a combo.

Wonder why that is?

I’m not blown away by the 4" line either (even though I’ve yet to see one in the flesh…or in the plastic, LOL!), but I think part of the problem is that we look on them from the perspective of adult collectibles rather than kids’ toys. I remember folks saying the same thing about the Ninja Turtles toyline that came out 7 or 8 years ago, and that shifted some very healthy units, because kids (rather than adult collectors) helped shift them off the toy shelves! :slight_smile:

So yeah, I share a lot of your feelings (at least based on what I’ve seen), but am aware I’m not the target audience for these, LOL! :smiley:

I have the entire wave 1 collection and although I wasn’t blown away by the 4" line they’re still a decent bunch of figures particularly deluxe Grune an Mumm-ra

The 6" line are amazing… All of them - especially Mumm-ra!!

The lizard and lizard cannon is my personal favourite toy / vehicle.

The thundertank is so much better than the original (and I love the original toy) - if I was a 4 year old getting that for Xmas I’d be well impressed with Santa. The 4" Pamthro looks super cool sat in this.

The tower of omens looks good on display and the invisible tygra is a cool extra.

I’m looking forward to wave 2 and beyond. Here’s hoping for a long run of episodes so we get even more figures. :thumbsup:

Actually the US toy prices are cheaper :slight_smile: Remember those prices are in UK £'s. $7.99 = £5.10. The 4" are priced at £8 over here, which is equal to $12.51 (US Dollars)

From a business point of view, as well as a childs/parents eyes, I think the 4" line is too expensive. I guess I was ignorant of how small these actually are! Truth be told, I think Bandai will struggle to shift them.

I couldn’t really comment until now as i’ve only just seen them in person today. Don’t get me wrong, I like them, but it’s very unlikely I’ll buy them at £8 per figure. They should have been around £5.99 in my opinion.

I did however pick up Grune, who was £13. However I liked him in the cartoon and like the action feature he has! :wink: I think he was expensive, but I really wanted to pick up something from the new line and he was the obvious choice.

As for the paint job on the classics, the ones I looked at in The Entertainer had great paint apps, so those in Toys R Us might have been a crappy batch… the 6" figures from the new series looked really cool and I was tempted by Panthro, but went with Grune instead as I figured he might be harder to find going forward…

So yeah I like the new toys (probably except Classics Tygra, as I’ve never been keen on his face sculpt since he was revealed) but I feel they are slightly overpriced considering who the main target audience is. However I believe Ben 10 are a similiar scale and price, and they seem to sell well?

I guess it depends if kids are watching the new cartoon. Hopefully it airing on channel 5 over the christmas holiday should help.

I almost bought this as well. I think of all the toys, this is definately the best value for money. Your getting a nice little vehicle and articulated Reptillian. That might be my next purchase :wink: I’m trying not to spend too much, with buying christmas gifts for others at the moment.

Yep I definately want Ssslithe from wave 2! He will be great as a mini collection of 4" deluxe figures along with the Grune I got. However I might wait for the regular 4" to go down in price a little bit before buying those :wink:

You are right. The LJN Thundercats line and the Kenner Super Powers line are two of the greatest toylines EVER. With all the new technology today the new stuff still fails to beat the quality of the originals. Pretty sad if you ask me and a shame. Ive said it before and Ill say it again, give me the originals any day over the new junk they make now.

I have to say, as much as I love the old toylines, I have a ton of respect for Bandai’s 4" line. The articulation is so smooth and nice. Great range of motion. Great colors and sculpts overall. Poor sense of scale (Transformed Mum-ra especially), but great representations of cartoon characters. Just a lot of fun.

I can understand that the line doesn’t appeal to all collectors. The eye paint in particular seems prone to be off-kilter. So I recommend you choose your figures in-person rather than ordering online sight-unseen.

But Thundercats just might be my new favorite toy line; it surprised me as much as the new show did. Looking forward to seeing (and getting) more.

All the figures are expensive (well in the UK anyway) but isn’t this the same for all new toy releases? I honestly don’t know so someone could probably proove me wrong. I noticed that BBTS in the USA are selling off some of the 4" line at $4 each thats £2.55 in my money and well worth it. I’m sure the figures will come down in price if we hold out. That’s what I’m hoping for when I buy by unboxed duplicates anyhow - Maybe January sales :slight_smile:

Toys in the 80’s were just as expensive, if not more so. You have to remember that current prices reflect gradual inflation. Transformers in the 80’s were always something someone was considered “lucky” to own. I had a bunch of gobots, but TF’s were REALLY expensive considering other toylines at the time. Even original LJN figures were pretty expensive.

And LJN did not use the best methods of their time. Their dungeons and dragons line was WAY ahead of its time, and much more effort and care were put into those figures than into their Thundercats line. I get the dislike for the current line, but dont let nostalgia cloud your memory of the original LJN run.

I expected sooner or later this conversation of which toyline is better the old or the new to come on the table. Personally i believe that the ljn Figures have rightfully earned their place in the pantheon of Toys. It’s not fair to comapre things from a different era.
The old Thundercats almost had a Statue quality, hardly seen on Toys from any generation even on this day. A main advantage is their awesomeness when displayed on card.This is the chief reason why grown-up fans still collect these pieces spending lot of money. Whereas Bandai’s Thundercats are purposed foremost for playing. Put side by Side the Old and New Lion-O, which one would be fitting for a 10 year old? One has plenty of articualted points and coming with exchangeable hands,heads, swords. Even the lower hight as well as flexibility is suitable for action-palying. Aesthitically speaking the LJN version display carded much nicer and have distinctly this ‘museum’ quality than Bandai’s.

I got all the smaller figures today for Christmas - they are pretty awful:(

Cheap plastic
Warped accessories
Visible unpainted joints/pegs
Loose joints

They look and feel like cheaper versions of the McDonalds happy meal toys:eek:

They larger figures aren’t much better

Really disappointed they really aren’t a patch on the 80’s line:thumbsup:

I dunno if I’ll be getting further figures - I like the cartoon and really would like to see the mutants - I want to support this line but I couldn’t hide my disappointment today - sad isn’t it?:smiley:

my friend at least you’ve found the New Toys at the stores, here in Greece i’ve asked amost every famous and large Toy Shop in Athens and i get no response if and when they are going to be released, on top of that i can’t order them from BBTS because of ther international policy.:mad:

I have bought my son most of the new thundercats 4" line, i have to say they are awesome!

Yesterday he got the thundertank, deluxe claw and sword, and 4" tygra.
Why are people complaining? loose joints, paints not perfect?
so what. In a production line in china they do it the quickest they can, mistakes happen, they cut corners.

My son whos 4 loves this line, we have someting cool in common as i had the ljn figures as a boy.

Consider yourselves lucky the thundercats are back!

I think the problem is folks want the Ljn toys over again, which was never gonna happen. You gotta enjoy the Ljn stuff as ‘vintage’. I like the new Bandai stuff based off the new series. My only complaint is the price point, as I feel they are expensive for their size.

However I do agree that the classics line is a cause for concern :frowning:
