Hi all. While looking through all the posts, I was reminded about one of the first Thundercats items I bought:
When Toonami brought back Thundercats a few years ago, I was reminded again of a HUGE part of my childhood and how much loved it, and stared looking all over for figures and such. My cousin gave me his old Lion-O, complete but not carded. I kept looking, determined that my next figure be a Thundertank/Mumm-Ra. I found the Thundertank, and after squaring off in my first Ebay bidding experience, figuring one rubber track missing was not too bad, I won it.
I waited pateintly and loved it as soon as I got it and set it up, where it sat for at least 3 years, all the while I thought ‘Man..I can see down in the back and it looks like it should lift up, like in the show!’…but despite all my efforts at anything which looked like a latch, I decided I was mistaken. Then after getting better at web browsing, I found out that my Thundertank was far from complete- it was missing the three hatch covers with the Eye on the back. I was shocked- hoping to find info on it lifting up, I find out something else entirely was missing, so I put it up, dissapointed.
Then. about a year later, I went to a flea market and saw a thundertank with a piece of the hatch… I asked the guy how much he wanted for it, and he showed me what problems it had- discoloration, a broken spring, etc. Then he said, “But it still pops open really well.” all the while, I’m thinking ‘Yeah, I know the mouth opens, you can see its…’ and all of a sudden, my train of thought stopped. He had pushed something and it sprang open like Panthro had just watched Pulp Fiction or something. I quickly asked him what he’d done and he looked at me and smiled.
Long story shorter, I bought that one and I could only kick my self because I had this figure this whole time, at least 5 yrs, and I never saw that button. In, fact, the seller I bought mine off of on Ebay never knew it opened up either and I raced home, thinking I had some weird variant, but no, I sat the two side by side and pushed that same spot and my old one exploded even taller than the ‘parts’ version I had bought at the flea market, probably not having opened since circa 1989. Anyway, it opened up a whole new way to display it…hope your enjoyed my story, laugh if you wanna but it was neat for me…anyone have similar experienceces with other figs? Transformers, etc?
Sorry, didn’t realize this post was so long
