Cartoon Netowrk seems to be moving towards cheaper in house productions. Truth is that a live action series, as bad as it may be, is usually cheaper than an animated series. Sets can be reused and talent for kids shows tend to be cheaper. It is also why shows such as Adventure Time and others that use “cheaper” animation are becoming more frequent. CG series are even cheaper than animation, once you have a model you can manipulate the model instead of having to redraw every frame.
I also associate costs with the reason CN stopped airing anime for several years. So when it comes to a series like Thundercats where the sponsoring studio itself is unsure of the future, why would CN pony up the money to buy the series?
It’s unfortunate but true. Plus if advertisers don’t feel like they are getting enough views during Tcats time slot well forget it all together.
For a couple years now (this gets a lot of ridicule) I have said that I think Spike TV network should get An animation block and anime. To put it in perspective, anime is a rating hog and has massive a following (not such big spenders aka piracy). Sci-Fi airs shows too late for most ppl, and CN is too self involved. Spike with the loss of UFC programming could fill an alternate need and get higher ratings for the same price they paid for mma shows. problem is how many households get spike. Spike even airs it’s own video game awards…animation fits there perfectly.
It actually shows increase. Even if they said the future of the show looks unclear they still put it on their website, which is showing support for the series.
Generator X isn’t bad but they really should have finished it.
The last two Ben 10 series were great but the new one looks terrible.
Adventure Time is a hit or miss with me.
I do not care much for the normal show, it’s only had a few good episodes.
Gumball has it’s moments but the animation style(s) need time to get used too.
I really wish did more video games for the ThunderCats like an RPG for PS3/Xbox360, a Fighting game, a multiplayer action game that you work together like the old TMNT arcade games, etc.
Actually, SpikeTV did air animation for a time; Stripperella, Gary the Rat, Ren & Stimpy, et cetera.
Syfy used to air animation wayyyy back in the day as well.
Funny that you mention video games. I feel that video games are one of the main things that has killed the cartoon. Back in the 80’s home video game consoles weren’t en mass. Not everybody owned an Atari or Nintendo (100.00 back then was a lot of money) and cartoons were the venue for kids to unwind after school and on the weekend.
As the 90’s and 2000’s progessed more and more game consoles were introduced and purchased. More time was being spent gaming than tooning and cartoons today have suffered for it.
I really hope the show is not cancelled. My brother told me ever since the get go for TCats that CN is notorious for their show cancellations. Still I believed it would fare well since it is Thundercats! How could they hope to achieve anything if they don’t advertise the show well, it’s all about how you sell it. They should be showing cool adverts on occasional basis that would draw the people in. Just like OS intro, they need something similar to draw more kids in. That intro alone was enough to get people to watch the show…it was simply excellent. 52 episodes were confirmed at the very least right?
If you do a search for “Thundercats cancelled” online, you’ll see articles from November 2011 predicting that CN would announce any day that it was cancelled. It still hasn’t happened yet. You would think if they really wanted to give it the boot, they would have done so by now…there’s been every opportunity. Instead it’s still occupying the 9:30am Saturday slot, at least for the near future.
I saw that article a couple days ago. Considering that IGN’s reporting can be a bit dodgy at times, I took the article with a big grain of salt. They really have no evidence to back it up other than hearsay. So I think it’s a bit premature myself to pronounce the show dead until CN says otherwise.
Personally, I’m guessing their lack of response could mean they’re currently deciding what to do with it. They know it’s doing well and has a passionate fanbase, but at the same time it’s probably not fitting in for whatever they’re current overall plans are.
My guess? They’re probably contemplating putting it on the new Toonami. It would make sense as they’ve already got a block of Anime shows on there, and TCats’s animation is being done by Studio 4C, which is a well-established and well-regarded Anime studio. Considering that none of the Anime shows they have are originals, it might make sense for them to have TCats be a sort of a flagship show in that block so they can put their own personal stamp on it. And at the same time, this could free-up the showrunners to do more darker episodes, which seemed to be the direction they wanted to lean in anyway. That’s my educated guess anyways, and they’re holding back so as to surprise the fans.
Again, different opinions. As I said before, it makes sense that IGN would comment on Thundercats since there is that Nintendo DS game possibly coming out.
Without that DS game possibly coming out, I doubt IGN would have said much about the show. I’m not saying they flat out wouldn’t say a peep, just that it is highly unlikely.
Remember, just because something is featured somewhere doesn’t mean that is a show of support. More often than not, that something is just called news and that somewhere is just reporting that bit of news.
Heck, there are articles detailing Barry Obama’s Obamacare bill all over the place but that doesn’t mean all those articles support Obamacare. They just present information.
That’s all I see this IGN article doing; presenting information and only presenting information.

I remember when the OS would cut to commercial, those commercials often featured ads for Thundercats toys, GI Joe, He-Man, and such.

Good point except that CN never annouces it’s cancelling any show. Actually, it’s not just CN. Most networks don’t announce cancellations of established series. They don’t like the negative fan reactions such announcements bring.
MTV kept Clone High’s status as “on hiatus” for almost two years before finally saying it was cancelled.
I say everyone keeps their fingers crossed and hopes for the best!
If Cartoon Network or WB are going to announce anything about the show getting renewed. We might have to wait till Comic-Con next month to hear if they are going do anything. Which I think would make since. With all the fan buzz and press that will be happening there.
I just think, with all the negative press CN is already receiving for the series, they will announce something to make themselves not look bad. This isn’t the first time they’ve cancelled something for no reason, but people have really brought their major flaws into the limelight with the unknown future of this series. Seeing how many articles, petitions, and comments bash them or demand that they renew it, I think they would find it hard to ignore these signs that people are beginning to catch on to their patterns.
They will wait until the noise dies down, and it will, then they will silently pull the plug. The only way someone will know that it’s canceled if somebody involved in the show like Dan or Matt says it, provided they are not legally obligated to remain quiet. Conversely the opposite would be true if the show is renewed…
We need to keep the noise up, then. I think (and hope) that fans will never let them live this down if they cancel it. And we should not let them think that it’s okay to keep fans hanging like this, because it isn’t. They have done this too many times and this should be the final straw for anyone who watches CN.
Agreed. If we don’t hear anything within the next few weeks I’m pretty sure the fan base will be making some noise. Heck if I had the time I would go out to Comic-Con and make some noise by myself. But between my main job and side job I just don’t have any time :lionomad:
I would literally kill to go to Comic-Con. Considering most of CN’s shows that were cancelled didn’t have almost 30 years of past content to get millions of people hooked on them in general, I can expect that their silent won’t sit well with fans, and it already isn’t.
Honestly , making a video game for a show , doesn’t not affect it’s continuation or not ( take Generator rex for example ) and even I , as a 3DS owner , will not get that T-cats game … not because I don’ty love this show and want to support it . but because video games that are based on movies , or tv shows . almost always suck and are aimed for kids with very low standarts…
I might buy it, but for my cousin who is only 6 and loves the show. I couldn’t agree with you more, though. My favorite shows/movies always have incredibly horrible video games.
Generator Rex is an awesome show made by the Ben 10 creators. It rocked while it lasted, but even though they’ve sorta cancelled it, they at least managed to finish all the way to the ultimate finale…On iTunes.

Generator Rex WAS finished (I’ve watched all the way to the ultimate finale). They just stopped showing it to the end.
Ben 10 Utimate Alien started well, but flopped after Dwayne McDuffie died.
I think Adventure Time is a cute cartoon with storylines that are more annoying than Snarfer. I’ve got nothing against OS Snarf, but Snarfer’s voice hurts my poor eardrums.
I don’t watch Gumball at all.
I’d LOVE to see a YouTube walkthrough of any game they make for the NS.
