So, am I reading too much into this, or can the “no comment” be taken as possible good news? I’ve read ALL of these Q&A’s and usually, if the answer is NO, Toyguru pretty much will give a “No, that’s not in the works” answer. I would LOVE to see new Thundercats figures on Mattycollector! And, let’s face it, SOMEONE is getting the rights situation figured out, because Hard Hero is doing Statues. I believe that C2E2 in Chicago is the next convention that Mattel will be at, and I’m going to make it a point to tell the reps that I’d love to see new Thundercats figures from them. What do you guys think?
id say perhaps cause when they say no comment to me that means they have ideas and are doing something bout it or they have it done and waiting for the right moment, or it can be absolutely nothing
Yep.. I am counting on some Thundercats announcement from Mattel for next year.
Though they are swamped with the production line of MOTU figures for several months, I think a Thundercats line could be possible, though initially not as extensive as the MOTU line.
i doubt it honestly, sounds like they’re tired of being asked and nothing’s happening right now. im being a downer but im one of the biggest people to hope something, well something GREAT, gets going in the the near future. im just trying to not get my hopes up. and if matty collector does it then i’d be super stoked about what we’d be getting and then nauseated at the thought of aquiring them through mattel.
I remember Toyguru saying around SDCC that Mattel were actively pursuing the Thundercats license.
This new statement of "can’t discuss the possibilities of acquiring new properties" says to me that they maybe closer than we think. Or maybe I am also too hopeful and I am reading too much into it
dont get your hopes up guys. i believe something will happen but i dont know when. i kinda hope it isnt these guys simply for their disasterous customer service and quality control that made me leave MOTU classics line.
they’d make great figures but i dont think that people should have to resort to buying a figure on their online store only like the motuc line, so i’m hoping it’s available in stores so that everyone can enjoy them. among other problems that i hope arent repeated from the motuc line
The smartest thing about Mattel’s online selling policy is it sells to those who really want the product. Without a media tie in there would be no reason to market the figures to kids/general retail
That’s a good point. As long as they’re easily available somehow and reasonably priced, online buying works for me. Since Thundercats is in a similar boat as Masters of the Universe, it would be a perfect candidate as an internet exclusive.
all i care about is that i get what i want if toys or whatever becomes available and those that want the merchandise get what they want too. no low production numbers to make resellers buy em all please. from what i’ve “heard” or read rather, in things like the 4 horseman sdcc interviews during the MOTU q&a is that the thundercats are just as popular as something like motu. which surprises me b/c i just never thought anyone really cared about them or remembered themas much as us. i guess that’s being naive but i hope i’m wrong and the community keeps growing, or at least wakes up some fans that long forgot about them so that they can stop making a billion different star wars figures on the shelves like they have been for 30 yrs and switch it up.
I don’t think they’ll ever quit on Star Wars junk. But I remember how popular Thundercats was in its time, and it was pretty huge. I think it needs some action to build momentum and interest. I just can’t understand why there are so many issues with using the license. If WB owns it, why is releasing statues such a pain in the ass? Why not publish another comic at least?
I’d love it to mean they were bringing out a new line, but I know when I make comments like that it’s usually to side step the question because I have no idea what I’m talking about. I read that as an “I have no idea” kind of answer.
i’m not holding my breath, if they make an annoucement during 2010 of a toy line, i’ll buy fiance a dog and a backyard fence for it. that’s how safe i think i am.
In my opinion if Thundercats are to be produced by Mattel they will look like Masters of the Universe Classics series, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to pay homage to the original and much beloved LJN toyline. The revamped Thundercats figures would be very appealing to young as well as older generations. Besides if Mattel decides to make Thundercats anew there should be an accompanying brand-new Cartoon series,something that it still isn’t on the horizon. Personally i wouldn’t mind at all if statues are to be solely produced, the action figures have been replaced in quality and lasting value by the highly detailed staues and busts. On the other hand, i am aware of the love and nostalgia effect for the action figures but right now i would rather see coming out an old time classic re-release.
