I guess I may be jumping the gun here but is this series set in the future, past or a completely different Tcats universe?
In the 1st ep Claudus states that their ancestors the Thundercats defeated Mumm-ra. Which makes it sound like this is in the future. In the original series the Thundercats (except maybe Jaga) had no prior knowledge of Mumm-ra’s existence. If this is indeed in the future, perhaps the Thundercats devolved in some manner and abolished all Tech. How did Mumm-Ra escape the Book of Omens? Maybe Mumm-Ra was on the original Thundera at some point?
Assuming this is meant to be a connected series, then Mumm-Ra escaped the book at some point but in the episode Old Friends he was trapped in his tomb. Maybe trapped in that tomb after escaping the book?
In the original Grune & Jaga fought alongside each other in flashbacks. The Thundercats did not know much of him until he made his first appearance. Perhaps this Grune is a future descendant of the previous Grune?
How did Lion-O not know that Mumm-Ra killed his father? It happened right in front of him. Mumm-ra disguised as Panthro stabs Claudus & then transforms to his original self. If Lion-O thought that the REAL Panthro had killed his father he would not be teaming up with him.
The simple answer is that this new ThunderCats series is a re-telling of the classic - i.e., in terms of continuity, the two series have no connection to each other.
The best comparison I can make is that the series of Batman movies that ran from 1989 into the mid-1990s had nothing whatsoever to do with the 1960s Batman TV series, even though both featured a lot of the same characters! The same thing applies to this new ThunderCats series, it’s in a completely separate continuity to the original show.
Ah I c. I was hoping there would be a very tight connection. I still like the new series though. There is some continuity however in the characters.
Ok so let’s shift focus to my last point:
How did Lion-O not know that Mumm-Ra killed his father? It happened right in front of him. Mumm-ra disguised as Panthro stabs Claudus & then transforms to his original self. If Lion-O thought that the REAL Panthro had killed his father he would not be teaming up with him.
Perhaps I misunderstood the context when he said it:
“What do you know of my father” ONLY THAT I KILLED HIM.
So that could be a statement issued with or even without knowledge of the murder. Judging by your quote I can see that he must’ve said that even though he KNOWS that Mumm-ra did it. When he said that I thought it was some sort of plot inconsistency. As though he said it not knowing who killed his father.
