Inconsistencies and Things that don't make sense

Ia gree about the SoO. Sometimes it warned Lion-o right away about other TC being in danger, while in other ep (for example, “Mongor”), it waited for all the TCs to get caught before warning Lion-o.

I always thought it would have been more useful in “Mongor” if the SoO warned Lion-o just when Tygra got defeated, so Lion-o could summon the others so they could stick together to a) protect each other, b) work as a team, and c) save Tygra and defeat Mongor.

About Jaga, I always thought his mission was to teach and advice Lion-o only when he considered Lion-o was too lost to find the answer himself.

I totally agree with you there. Also the sword never warned Lion-O on numerous occassions when Mumm-ra appeared in disguised form (Pumm-Ra, Netherwitch, Gregory Gregian etc). It could have atleast shown some activity and then Lion-O could have ignored its warning and the story could have continued just as it did.

The most baffling moment with the SoO was when Willa managed to use the Sight Beyond Sight ability of the sword so easily, the first and only time she laid hands on it. Actually, she is the only person except Lion-o who ever pulled that thing!!

Well, to be fair, she was the only one who tried

still, wasn’t it kind of awkward to be able to use it so easily??

Not really. The only rule was for it not to be used for evil deeds. If it were not for the sword showing Willa what had happened she would have not known what was going on and to trust Lion-O.

I like the fact it could be used by people other than Lion-O

Continuity (or lack of same)

Some inconsistencies are genuinely that, others can be fixed by rejigging the episode order around. Like Tygra swimming. All we need to do is say “Safari Joe” takes place before “The Fireballs Of Plun-Darr”. It’s less of an issue in “Turmagar The Tuska” because he’s still sort of in a trance.

I’m working on a continuity order for season 1 at the moment. I’ve got about the first 21 episodes sorted into a cast-iron order.

It would have been nice and interesting though to see the other TCs using the SBS and other SoO features from time to time.

I think he was already out of the trance in “Turmagar”, but he couldn’t swim because he kind of lost conscience form the fall. Of course, he could have been still under the remains of the trance as well. Joining all that with the fact that he “can’t swimm unless invisible”, and you can say he was lucky Cheetara was there… now the question is: can Cheetara swim as fast as she can run? lol

Well, either way, it doesn’t matter that much - it matters with “Safari Joe” and “The Fireballs Of Plun-Darr”, but whatever the explanation in “Turmagar The Tuska”, whether he’s still in the remnants of the trance, or just barely conscious from the fall, it’s not necessarily the same as being unable to swim.

In this whole post I agree

Now, if you watch carefully Turmagar the Tuska, when Tygra is unconscious under water, he opens his eyes for a moment, then closes them again. This could be because he weas still under the trance, just too tired and hurt from the fall, or definitely he can’t swim and just gave up knowing it would be no point in trying to do so.

Lion-O orders Panthro back to Cat’s Lair in “ThunderCats, Ho!: The Movie,” and Panthro readily agrees. When he’s back at the lair, he questions Lion-O’s decision. Now tell me if that made no sense.

Lol. You’re right.

I’ve forgotten whether this was discussed, but how did Lion-O find out where Lynx-O, Pumyra and Bengali were when he was in Mumm-Ra’s pyramid?

What about “The Shifter”, when Lion-O and Wilykat each try individually to make the sword work, and it doesn’t work for either of them? That’s where the inconsistency is.

And for that matter, why didn’t Tygra try using the sword himself in “Queen Of Eight Legs” when he was the only one not caught up in Spidera’s web?

I think Lion-o dreamed about them, doubting if what he saw was true or not, and Jaga told him it was true and that they were still alive in that island with the Berbils.

That isn’t what Lady Ocelli means. She’s talking about when the 3 Thunderians are captured and taken to Fire Rock Mountain  Lion-O goes to confront Mumm-Ra in his pyramid to find out where Lynx-O, Bengali and Pumyra have been taken, but after a scuffle with Ma-Mutt and NEVER confronting Mumm-Ra, he seems to conveniently know they are at Fire Rock Mountain (without anyone telling him that they are)

Originally, when I was a kid, I thought this was an error made when the eps were edited into the VHS movie release, with a scene explaining how Lion-O found out being cut. Back then thats the only version of ThunderCats Ho! we got here in the UK, as season 2 never aired over here.

However years later I saw that it is also a plot hole in the 5 episode arc version as well :frowning:

I get it now, thanks for explaining me.

That did happen in “Mongor” and “Safari Joe” - Lion-O used the catchphrase and the others couldn’t break free.

But yes, this is the main problem with the series for me, and the main reason I don’t like season 2 (or seasons 2-4 if you prefer). Too often, the catchphrase just becomes a fix-all - “Locket Of Lies” is the worst example of this, because Lion-O has already used the sword to try and get them out of their prison, but when he actually uses the catchphrase, suddenly the day is saved. “Bracelet Of Power” is another bad one, the beam bouncing off corners and knocking Mumm-Ra for six, and likewise “The Circus Train” having the beam go round and into the train to press the right button . . . as for “Return Of The Thundercubs”, the catchphrase restored Tygra, Panthro and Cheetara to their normal ages while the original “Thundercubs” ended with them going into the Cave Of Time to get back to their original ages - which leads me onto another issue. Originally, Tygra went into the cave because he found a source of Thundrillium there. So why, when the cats were cubs again, could they not just have Cheetara go dashing all the way in to find the thundrillium and set about extracting some?

I’ve said that I think “Fireballs from Plun-Darr” is the king episode of inconsistencies, and I just thought of two more:

[ol]
[li]In “Spaceship beneath the Sands”, Lion-o and Pantrho had to use some tank oxygens or breathing device to breathe under water, while in FfPD, Tygra dove a long time without wny problem.[/li][li]When Tygra swam into the tunnel to get insode Castle Plun-Darr and got captured into the cage, the side-walls were solid, while the bars that came down were up and down, cutting his way in and out the cage, falling over his head while he was swimming forward and then when he turned around, thus those bars should have been the top and bottom of the cage. But, when the Mutants retrieved the cage, the bars were the walls of the cage surrounding Tygra, while the top and base of the cage were solid platforms. Don’t know if this one counts as an inconsistency itself, but a little mistake it definitely is.[/li][/ol]

You’re right. I’d be inclined to go for the trance still being in effect, because when he’s in the tank again afterwards, it looks like he’s only just shaken it off (of course, that could just as easily be due to swallowing water!).

If you feel it’s a case of Tygra not being able to swim, then feel free to put it before “The Fireballs Of Plun-Darr” in the continuity order. Trouble is, it has to come after “The Time Capsule” because of the Black Widow Shark - which means it’ll be adjacent to “Safari Joe”, which would really have too many episodes with the Tygra swimming issue in close proximity.
