Inconsistencies and Things that don't make sense

Yeah but at the same time, I like a series that’s prime for nitpicking, hehe.

Herald, if you’ve got a great eye for nit-picking the small inconsistencies, I may borrow you for that when I finish writing my story.

I guess the biggest thing that doesn’t make sense to me is Wileykat and WileyKit (not sure on proper name spelling) not aging during their time in the space capsules, while Lion-O does! I thought maybe their species ages differently, or maybe they were adults before they even left Thundara even though they just look young. Any thought.

Oh, and hello forums! I am Mathius from the PCEngineFX.com forums and it’s great to be here!

I think Lion-O aged because there was a malfunction with his suspension capsule.

I got the impression that Jaga intentionally tampered with Lion-O’s space capsule so that by the time he landed, he would be physically old enough to lead the ThunderCats and wield the sword of Omens.

Though the consistency issue I have is that in the pilot, Lion-O could barely hold the sword. Yet later on when he’s growing younger, he can handle it fine and we’ve seen Snarf and the kittens handle the sword as well. Ah well.

That would make sense as the others didn’t age at all. Now, I can watch without that bugging me until the next inconsistency ha ha! Thanks guys!

I don’t think Jaga tampered Lion-O’s capsule, that could habve played against him. The idea was that Lion-O grew up and was taught by the others as dioing so, so he could learn and grow up in a mature way. If Jaga altered the capsule, he knew Lion-O would have been a grown-up phisically but not emotionally. Unless he didn’t consider that aspect (but Tygra did, aso I think Jaga would have as well).

Also, here’s another one related to that topic. I know Lion-O’s capsule somehow broke or damagede or something, that’s why he grew up while the kittnes didn’t.

But, how did he get to grow up as a full-developed, muscular man? I think with no proper feeding and exercising, he should have grown up thin and weak.

They slipped some steroids into the suspension gas?

That might be

I just watched the Thundercats Ho! five-parter. Two things jumped out at me:

  1. Lion-O goes to The Black Pyramid to find out from Mumm-Ra where the other Thunderians are being held. He goes there, never sees Mumm-Ra, gets attacked by some mummies, and leaves, but somehow knows they’re at Fire Rock Mountain.

  2. The Mutants capture the Thunderians, bring them to Captain Shiner, who flies to them to Fire Rock Mountain, and then waits there…for the Mutants to arrive? Why not either let the Mutants do all the transport, or take the Mutants with you?

About Lion-O and aging in his capsule. AFAIR his capsule was damaged and didn’t fully function. You do notice that they have been on their journey for several years. Jaga sent them in the capsules and said he can’t cause even though the capsules slow down the aging process it doesn’t totally stop it. He could not make it even if he tried. Lion-O’s capsule was damaged what explains why he physically grew but not mentally. Of course for nitpickers, there is always something to complain about. The nutrition fact and muscular. But hey it was an 80’s cartoon after all and all the toons back then had their Plotholes etc. not only Thundercats.

Maybe the mutants had another thing to do while Shiner took the thunderians to Fire Rock Mountain? Go to the movies maybe?

I still don’t understand the whole damaged/sabotaged/altered capsule bit. The group knows Jaga wouldn’t survive the trip in suspension, so the amount of aging that would have taken place must be a fair amount. That much aging by Jaga would be enough for Lion-O to age about 10 years, which looks about like what happened.

But let’s say for the sake of argument, the capsule was altered or sabotaged… Why? Why let the boy who is now Lord of the ThunderCats grow up in suspension? Seriously, we all know how that’s going to turn out. He’ll be older physically, but will have the knowledge of a boy. I know, he needs to be a man to be able to defend himself and lead the others, but there are better ways.

Why not send everyone else into the capsules and keep Lion-O out for a while? Let him grow physically, mentally, and intellectually. Let Jaga train him in fighting. Let Jaga teach him strategic thinking. Let Jaga teach him more about the history of his race, its technology, and the secrets of the Sword of Omens. Then once Lion-O was old and wise enough to be a proper Lord and leader send him into suspension (or just before to let the aging in suspension get him to the right age). That would have been the wise thing for Jaga to do.

I think many forget what happened in the episode. The ship was under attack by the mutants. The mutants breached the hull of the ship and entered. There was a fight with shooting on board. Knowing that, it seems very logical that somehow the capsule got damaged. I wouldn’t say sabotage. Who should have sabotaged it? Damaged is more likely.

Why his and why let him grow? Well it was Ted Wolfs vision so I guess we should just accept it that way.

Again, it was Ted’s vision. Besides that what use would that have been? Jaga is training him, just in Astral form. The other Thundercats have much to do with it and besides that, it was the 80’s.

People in the 80’s weren’t stupid though. They new he will need social lessons etc. Why keep him separate from the others not really knowing who they are and they who he is and let him be alone with only Jaga seeing him die and handle the lose on his own? I don’t think Lion-O would have done well characterizing some Emo freak. Got enough of them nowadays. Didn’t need them back then and surely don’t need them now. There are enough Animes that go that rout.

The way they did back was ok for the time back then.

This thing always made me think about the noble TCs ages as well. I know there was a thread about it somewhere but can’t find it.

Poeple use to say Pantrho was the older one (some say Tygra, but I think most people go with Panthro), and Cheetara the youngest.

If they were different ages, then why:

a) when they turned into Thundercubs in the Valley of Youth, they were there the same amount of time, but they all got back to the same age (if Cheetara was younger, 10 minutes in the vallye should have turned her let’s say 5 years old, but Tygra was supposed to be a little older, so if he spent the same time than Cheetara in the valley, he should only turned back to let’s say 8, same with Panthro), and

b) ok, let’s assume the Valley of Youth always gets everybody back to a certain age (let’s say 6), no matter how old they are… when they entered the Cavern of Time to return to their proper ages, they spent the same time there. This means all of them would age the same, from 6 to let’s say 30 (to say a number). If Panthro was previously the oldest and Cheetara the youngest, shouldn’t she had left the cavern first, then Tygra a little later so he could age a little more, and finally Panthro?

I mean, it’s not like the cavern of time knew how old each TC was before they got back to youth, the cavern only made them age at the same ratio/speed.

The sabotage theory is in reference to the original comic I believe. It somehow implied that Jaga tampered with it so Lion-O would age.

I did not mean that Lion-O should remain out until Jaga died. Just so he could learn stuff as he aged. Stuff like, don’t use the Sword to attack another ThunderCat… ThunderCats can turn bad, just like an old friend of mine named Grune…

Tygra, don’t forget Malcar… He aged back to a young man, then the 2nd time to an infant.

I think part of why people try to explain why Lion-O aged is that the Thunderkittens didn’t, which suggests that Jaga should have been fine in a capsule.

If I had to choose I would go with the sabotage thing. If it where damaged Jaga would have realized this on the long journey to 3rd earth. He would have had to have seen Lion-o age in the suspension capsule. Or maybe he did and just let it go.

But the whole suspension capsule thing really screws up other things too. lynxo, Pumyra, And Bengali didn’t have time capsules. Snarfer made it to third earth without one.

And speaking of the new thundercats. Why didn’t Jaga tell Lion-o about them earlier or the sword warn him about them being trapped on an island.

But what really bugs me more than anything. And it has since I was little seeing it for the first time. When the Thundercats find out about the Thundarians trapped on an island and discuss ways to get them nobody suggests the feliner. A few simple words from Panthro like it’s broke down, I used parts from it to make the thunderclaw and hover cat would have made me happy.

Hmmm… never thought of that that way. But that’s right I guess.

You’re right about Lynx-o, Pumyra and Bengali. I thought that as well back in the days, but have forgotten about it. About Snarf, well, maybe snarves age slower than Thudnerans?

I’m with you in that I never understood why Jaga didn’t tell Lion-o about the other Thunderans in the island, or why didn’t the sword warn him about them. I have justified the sword thing by telling myself that maybe the sword only warn about TCs in trouble, and Lynx-o, Benagali and Pumyra weren’t TCs at that time… but why Jaga didn’t say a word?

The introduction of the new TCs led the series to a lot of plot holes and inconsistencies; and there were already a lot of them without the new TCs

I agree. The suspension capsule thing did screw a lot up. I mean even in the first episode as they crashed on third earth the mutants arrived. Now several things pop up in mind right away.

  1. how come the mutants didn’t attack the cats in space? After all they followed the cats for such a long time.
  2. why didn’t the mutants get older? Did they also stay in suspension capsules?
  3. why use the capsules in the first place? The cats only went to third earth cause the ship has been damaged. The original destination was surely a planet not too far from Thundera cause obviously they didn’t the capsules to get there. After the ship was damaged they decided to even further in space to third earth and use the capsules.

So yes I agree, the capsule idea was very weak. Maybe they needed it for the story but it was weak. But they used it so the question is not whether if Jaga would have made or any of the mentioned. The question is why did Lion-O age and not the others and most logical one sounds that the capsules got damaged during the raid from the mutants. I mean, who should have sabotaged it? Jaga? that makes no sense at all. Tygra? Panthro? Makes no sense either. The mutants couldn’t have done it, they haven’t been on the ship long enough to sabotage it.

Logical conclusion, it had to be damaged from the raid. Maybe by over-voltage or such.
