Something I thought of a while back, but I think the setting of the NS could make for an interesting role playing game, either pen-and-paper style like Dungeons and Dragons or a video game like World of Warcraft.
I’d title it “Third Earth” since you could play as more than Cats. It could be set in the time before or after the series takes place. There’s a lot of races to choose from already, mainly Cats, Dogs, Lizards, Rats, Birds, and Monkeys.
Character classes would be based on characters from the show, like warrior for Lion-O and cleric for Cheetara and Jaga. There could also be an engineer class that specializes in gadgets and weaponry. The class based on Kit and Kat could specialize in distractions and debuffs, and the one based on Tygra would obviously center around stealth. At first I’d say Panthro would be the “tank” class, but I think he’d be more suited to dealing out damage. Lion-O seems to have more focus on defense with his equipment, armor, and abilities, so he might fit closer to a tank. There could also be a more dark magic based class like Mumm-Ra.
Crafting skills could be things like archaeology, which lets you unearth ancient relics and tech, engineering, which lets you create machines, and of course blacksmithing.
Merged Post:
As an addition; crafting can include jewel crafting like in World of Warcraft, wherein you can add jewels to certain pieces of equipment to enhance them, kind of like how the stones of power can empower the Sword and Gauntlet.
Of course they would. It’s an mmo that takes place on Third Earth right? Who else would be NPCs? Uh.. I dont wanna call you stupid (I’m not) but it really is a very weird question to ask about a RPG game which uses the setting of the “Third Earth” from Thundercats. What other people would you talk to if not inhabitants of Third Earth?
Pretty much. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. I’m not a game designer, so it’s not like I’m going to be able to come up with any original game mechanics, just analogues to those in other RPGs. Part of the fun is just figuring out how to apply core RPG system to the setting.
But I guess if I had to think of something, it would be a mechanic that emphasizes both the difference and merging of technology and magic, and maybe some sort of alliance system involving gaining favor with different factions. That sort of thing exists in Warcraft, but I was thinking of it having more immediate results. Like perhaps doing enough quests for a certain group unlocks more quests with better rewards, but it can prevent you from getting stuff from a rival faction. I think there may have been a system like that in one of the Fable games, but I’m not sure. It wouldn’t be like in some MMOs where you choose one major faction to be a part of, like Horde or Alliance, you would have to work your way into them. The only alliance bonus you could get is from the group/race your character is a part of from start.
I am wondering of there should be race specific classes though. Like perhaps the lizards can’t be clerics, but they can be priests, like those ones seen with Mum-Ra in the Trials of Lion-O.
And I believe what Ocelli is asking is if characters from the show would ct as NPCs, and they probably would, but maybe not a whole lot of them would be there. I guess it would depend of the time frame its set in.
Dont get me wrong, i’m not saying that’s a bad thing. There is a reason why many games “copy” WoW
IMO a TC game would be more fun if it was a Single Player game. Ever played The new Star Wars MMO? It works pretty much as an SP game and you get many decisions and you meet cool characters and stuff. All of the stuff you mentioned could still be there but you could incorporate gameplay from say Assassins Creed 3, the new batman games and what not. It all depends on if you are gonna play as one of the main characters or you create a new character that is “part of the army” and you choose which side you wanna be on, Lion-o or Mumm-Ra (as an example)
The game then could also have Coop, cause an MMO would be so much harder to make and market (at least a TC one) then a AC,Batman,Skyrim hybrid SP game.
