The producers of the Thundercats show have said on a couple of occasions that all the iconic characters of the old show will appear. That leaves the question, who are the iconic characters?
At first I thought they meant all the mutants (including ratar’o) etc but since they even included the berbils I think we can expect to see alot more familiar faces. The Berzerkers or captain Shiner really have to be in there too I reckon, possibly even the Lunatacks even if they never were really popular
It’s a weird word to use, “iconic.” I can’t think of anyone besides the ThunderCats being icons. I wonder if the person who used that word understood its actual meaning.
Perhaps they mean to include the Warrior Maidens and Mandora the Evil Chaser.
I think he must have meant those characters who are really, really popular, besides the Cats and Mumm-Ra of course. So Mutants are probably a given since they were the main baddies alongside Mumm-Ra, another could be the Lunataks or Lunatacks. Berbils for sure and maybe Snow-Man. Mandora could be another but was she ever that big of a hit with fans?
Well for me the Iconic characters (that we haven’t seen yet) would be Mandora, Safari Joe, Captain Cracker (I’m hoping for an awesome redesign on him), Mumm-mutt <3, Captain Shiner, Snowman of Hook Mt, Warrior Maidens, and Hachiman.
Maybe the Unicorn keepers too, but seeing how people nowdays like to differentiate between “boys” shows and “girls” shows idk if they’ll include the unicorn keepers.
I’ve always like Quick Pick too, but wouldn’t call him iconic. But if Mandora is there he (and the other criminals) should be there too.
Hachiman will probably be there in the swordsman village
I don’t know what exactly tey mean by “iconic”, but I do know I want to see teh Warrior Maidens, Snowman, and Safari Joe. I really don’t care about Mandora or Cptn Shiner, Cptn Cracker or Hachiman.
“Iconic” basically means when you think of characters from the show, those are the characters that immediately pop into your head.
Weren’t all of those characters created by one of the writers, William Overgard? His episodes were usually pretty weird by ThunderCats standards, but I did like Hachiman and Mandora.
I KNOW what “iconic” means… I meant to say that I don’t know which characters THEY consider “iconic”, therefore, I don’t know what THEY mean by “iconic” (because everyone could have a different idea of which characters were iconic; for example, you consider Mandora as one, I don’t).
Really? Didn’t klnow that, but makes sense to me now. All those episodes actually WERE weird to me when I saw the show, like somehow different.

Yes, his episodes seemed very out of place, like they were written for a different show. They were usually too sci-fi. The stories and characters might have worked better in Silverhawks.

There were some characters on the show that were better suited for the SilverHawks (i.e. Mandora the Evil Chaser, Safari Joe, the Lunattacks, and even the Terrator).
As far as iconic characters go: After seeing the character designs for the new series, I know the Ro-Bear Berbils will be making an appearance. Not necessarily iconic, but memorable, since they were the first to befriend the ThunderCats and helped construct the Cat’s Lair.
Not sure about Safari Joe. I think he suited the TCs very well, as he was a hunter.
But Mandora, Shiner, Craken, Lunattacks… SH material for sure.
One of the great things about Thundercats was it’s blend of fantasy AND sci-fi. To me All the sci-fi guest characters like Mandora, Shiner, etc fit just as well as the Unicorn keepers and the Snowman of Hook mountain. They were just different parts of the same world. I mean lets not forget that the Thundercats, themselves, were aliens who crash landed on a space ship.
Yes, that’s right. But… I don’t know… feels like the show was more “nature-related”, with forests, mountains, animals, animal-like people, rivers, etc (even their weapons weren’t laser pistols and stuff like that, but more traditional ones) and then Shiner, Mandora and others were too Sci-fi IMO.

Mandora however didn’t use lasers. she used a boomerang and a soap gun. lol
That’s quite true. Despite the sci-fi elements and some feeling like they belonged in the Silverhawks, I still liked it. I can see some nature oriented elements in the ThunderCats as well, but I think there’s a bit of a steampunk element to the ThunderCats, like the Ro-Bear Berbils and the Wollows, just to name a few.
It wasn’t just that Overgard’s stories and characters were more sci-fi, it was also that they seemed a lot weirder and less serious. He also wrote the episode with Captain Bragg, which I think is probably the worst since such a silly character is the one who ultimately got rid of the Mutants and Lunataks.
And then there’s the episode with Dr. Dometome and a plug in the ocean floor that keeps the water from draining. That’s just stupid. And then there’s Captain Cracker, whom he made lead the Lunataks for an episode, which I thought was him trying too hard to make his character seem cool. Whenever he introduced a new character, like Screwloose, he seemed to put too much focus on them, especially if they were too silly of a character to deserve it. It just felt like his episodes were particularly childish, with a few exceptions.
Overgard loved creating space captain characters. Hachiman and Mandora were the good ones. Shiner was okay because at least he had style. Cracker and Bragg I hope never appear in the new series.
I agree 100% with Gold Lion.
Out of all Overgard’s characters, I only liked Cptn Shiner, but even with that, I wouldn’t miss him if he didn’t appear in the new series. hachiman was ok as a character to me, although I found his episodes boring and somehow repetitive.
Never liked Mandora, don’t ask me why (my hypothesis is she was a prototype of Silver Hawks’ Melodia, which ironically I loved).
Cptn Cracker, Cptn Bragg and all the other captains/characters he created were just lame and foolish to me.
I kind of liked the episode Dr Dometome weas in though, not because of the new charatcers introduced, neither the plot itself, but mostly because there were new scenarios and I liked the part given to the twins in the beginning of it.
