I really hope I don’t step on anyones toes with this post but I wanted to share with you somethings about the show that just kind of irked me. Like let us start with the “Return to Thundera” 5 part series in the beginning we find out that Pumyra was going to stand guard at Cat’s Lair and Tygra at the Towers of Omens. OK in some ways I could understand why Pumyra stayed let’s face it it is obvious “Lion-O” had the hots for Cheetara but why keep Tygra on third Earth were the Thundercats afraid his little drug addiction would get in the way?
Next the last episode the Book of Omens I don’t know to me the ending should have been more like “The Last Day” I mean Lion-O relcaims the the key in time and the screen fades on Mumm-Ra and the ending talks about them protecting their planet I was almost half expecting “Captain Planet” to pop up.
Also Pumyra I honestly feel she was the shafted “Thundercat” I cannot remember the last episode she was in but to give that poor Thundercat basically one line where Tygra had pretty much a whole episode you gotta wonder why was the character of Pumyra even created?
And in conclusion off topic in “Return to Thundera” Part 4 when Snarf is pinned in the ruins is my mind in the gutter or did what Snarf get pinned under look like a freaking butt?!!:pumyrahappy:
First of all, a (slightly belated) “Welcome to the Boards” from me, Songya - I hope you enjoy your time here!
I definitely understand what you mean about Tygra and Pumyra being left behind on Third Earth - I understand why it was done, and actually I think it adds a degree of believability to the ThunderCats’ relocation to New Thundera, it would have been out-of-character for them to just abandon the planet that had been their home for several years. And, I can understand why Tygra was chosen, because he had by this time chalked up a great deal of screen time - but, it’s a pity that Pumyra had to accompany him, thus making her officially the ThunderCat with the least screen time out of the whole series!
As for “The Book of Omens” as a final episode, I definitely agree with you on this too. A while ago it was revealed that a more conclusive finale was planned for the series, an episode entitled “Goodbye Jaga” that would have been written by Kimberly Morris (the writer whose best-known contribution to the ThunderCats series was penning the episode “The Telepathy Beam”). It would appear that the episode was scrapped and replaced with “The Book of Omens” because the powers-that-be decided that they wanted a more open-ended final episode, in case they elected to produce more episodes in the future.
Sorry to go sort of off topic, but I have two queries I’ve always wondered about…
First of all in Exodus Jaga explains to Lion-o that the Sword of Omens had been under his protection and known only to him. What?! This is three minutes before they are attached by mutants searching for the sword?! Did he mean only he knew that the eye of thundera was embedded in the sword or what? Either I’m missing something or there was a flaw in the continuity of that one…
Second of all and I’m sure everyone’s thought this before - why didn’t they make more of Tigra’s psychic abilities - I’m sure I’m right in saying they only make an appearance in Lion-o trials. The only thing I can think of is that it would be too easy for him to beat their enemies if they were used all the time. Either that or because he wouldn’t have a trial otehrwise - what else would he have done - a maths test? Who can design a building quickest? Pity though, I mean at least Cheetara’s sixth sense makes two appearances…
Anyway, would like to hear what anyone else has to think about those
Tygra - they explained in his trial ep that he’d been basically saving up his mental energy for the Trials and that using them really really wears on him…thus the lack of showing off these powers prior in the series, and probably you can infer why he never used them afterward. But frankly I’m thinking the same thing…the writers pulled that out of their hat so his trial would be more interesting. But at least they fashioned an excuse why it seemingly came out of nowhere.
As for the Sword thing, or more to the point, the Eye in it, it’s a canon inconsistancy. But when the Mutants show up, I think it’s Jackalman who questions whether Slithe knows what he’s looking for and Slithe replies that he’s seen it before - but who knows how or when…maybe he saw pictures from legends, snuck in somehow and had seen it before or something. I always thought it was funny the other Tcats were to guide Lion-O in how to use the sword when supposedly, it was all just “legend” to them before, too. Oh well, that’s tcats canon for you. A bumpy ride at best
I always figured that Jaga only knew about it, and assumed, like any other secret or legend, that no one knew about it, but S-S-Slythe must’ve had his ways - or at least gotten a glimpse of it “if he’d seen it before” hidden in some Sword Room or something.

Yes, I think the writers had a clever idea with Tygar’s mind powers, and thereby hardly ever using them because they take so much of his energy—kind of like a “blessing and a curse” sort of thing. I think they explained it nicely.
And the whole mind power thing is a pretty good extension of “intelligence”, one of Tyra’s greatest attributes—Lion-O has to use his intelligence to be able to see through Tygra’s illusions (no pun intended, lol).
If they hadn’t gone the “intelligence” route for Tygra’s trial, then it could have wound up being “The Trial of Agility”, as that was Tygra’s greatest physical attribute. Maybe he and Lion-O could have had a race from one end of a forest to the other without being allowed to touch the ground, or something like that (and in that scenario Tygra would have his bolo whip to aid him, while Lion-O would have to make up for that).
Or perhaps there could have been a “Trial of Invisibility”, but in this instance Lion-O would have to find invisible Tygra on his own, having to depend on his own senses and any changes in the environment, etc.
All that said though, Tygra is my favorite ThunderCat, I greatly enjoy “The Trial of Mind Power”, and I think it’s a very interesting, feasible ability for him (and his ancestors and “relatives” in the Tyger Clan) to have.
The “Trial of Mind Power” was so-so.
Also the fact that it was drawn/animated so crappily made it suck too - i think only Cheetara’s and the Tkittens trials were drawn and animated well.

The thing that I loved and intrigued me the most about the Trial of Mind Power (or whatever it was titled) was Panthro mentioning the the “Tygra Clan”…now that was interesting to me.
Monkan’s name was “Monkian” and Jackalman was addressed as “Jackalman” so… were the Thundercats being addressed by their clan names?
For example…
Maybe Cheetara’s given name could have been Gertrude Maude Spottyheiney :eek:or something
like that and she travelled under the working title of her clan “Cheetara”.
I guess “Cheetara” looks and fits better on the toy packages…
As far as the Sword of Omens goes…since it was secreted and known only to Jaga… according to his very own words…how is it that Jaga and Claud-Us used it together to defeat the Shadowmaster the first time? Claud-Us may have been blind but not stupid he would have been bound to know Jaga wasn’t sharing the magic of a butterknife with him…
And…
When Thundera was about to shake off her hinges you think the Sword Of Omens would have been growling and lit up like a Christmas tree trying to warn Jaga to fix his mess.
You’re right, Purrsia, canon Thundercats is a bumpy ride.
The book of Omens as a concluder I thought was ok. By far one of the best episodes of the second season, possibly the best. In a way it’s like alot of series, there’s no ‘feasable’ end to the thundercats. You could have them defeat mumm-ra and the mutants in a more permanent fashion, but half of the thundercat episodes featured one off villians anyway.
Really there isn’t a conclusion to life. I suppose they could have had a ‘500 years later’ moment and show new thundera fully colonised with all the surviving thunderians and the offspring of the show’s heroes.
I agree though, I’ve always believed the show should have ended with ‘The Last Day’.
In CRYSTAL CANYON, when Tygra’s side-stepping w/ the walking-stick in the cave w/ the [COLOR=“DarkOliveGreen”]KeyStone, doesn’t it look like he’s dancing or something? LMAO
