I don’t want to say it publically because I need to keep up the relationship with Rob, but MAN OH MAN is that statue TERRIBLE.
UGH, they completely dropped the ball and I’m SSSOOOOOO disappointed with it. I pulled up my Cheetara page that I made in anticipation of the statue and here is what I wrote:
This statue will be a true test for the folks at Hard Hero. Most of their statues are of male characters and Cheetara is a subject whose character’s essence will be difficult to capture.
Cheetara is at once elegant and indomnitable. To cast her in porcelain as just a sexy chick in orange tights wouldn’t be enough.
The moment of Cheetara standing on top of the rocky mountain in the intro sequence was the right choice. There is no more memorable pose to choose for a Cheetara statue. Now it just remains to be seen whether they can get all the rest right.
Hey Mark, the funny thing is, I actually don’t dislike it - however, it’s far from the best thing I’ve ever seen either.
If they’d made an articulated, poseable Cheetara action figure for $20 using that sculpt, I’d definitely buy it - but, for $200, I really can’t see a lot of fans picking it up.
It’s a shame that the first official ThunderCats merchandise for years is getting such an Internet-wide negative reaction, but unfortunately I think Hard Hero’s line is pretty well doomed - the Lion-O statue got better reaction than this, and based on your comments to me the other night, it looks to be a bit of an online “peg warmer”.
My greatest fear is that some other companies will look at the failure of this Hard Hero statue line and take it to mean that there’s no demand for new ThunderCats products - whereas, I think the reality is that the TCats’ fanbase just isn’t sold enough on these statues to warrant plonking down $200 on them…
