That’s my mid-western greeting.

I was a little perplexed because the email I got after registering told me I should come here first to introduce myself but it wouldn’t let me create a thread. But now I can, so…

I was a kid in the 80’s, loved cartoons. Saturday mornings cartoons ruled the airwaves back then and out of all the cartoons out there, ThunderCats was my favorite. Still is. I got the DVD’s a few years back and found that I still enjoyed watching them as I did when I was a kid. Can’t say that about every cartoon I watched back then.

After recently discovering they were coming out with a new ThunderCats cartoon, I went in search of a good ThunderCats message board. The only annoying thing I experience with this board is an error message every time the page changes. It says:

This program does not have a valid digital signature that verifies its publisher. This program will open outside of Protected Mode, putting your computer at risk. You should only run programs from publishers you trust.

If I click “Allow” then it messes up settings on my computer that can’t be fixed unless I reboot my computer. So I have to click “Don’t Allow” everytime the page changes. Does this on the web site too.

Anyway…

As a kid, the Thunderkittens were my favorites. Probably since the three of us were all kids. Now my favorite is Tygra. I really love his voice especially.

I’m excited about the new series at the same time nervous that they’ll mess it up. I am encouraged that Larry Kenney endorses the new show though.

Other than that, I am female, have a bachelors, work full time, and actually spend a lot of free time out and about either with friends or working out, so I don’t actually spend a lot of time home on a computer except to watch dvd’s. I’m here right now partly because I’m not feeling the greatest and am considering not going out this evening like I’d planned. Maybe I’ll pop in some of my ThunderCats dvd’s. :thumbsup:

Hello back! Another female here who grew up in the 80s that will likely also be watching the DVDs (albeit with my kid, who is now demanding that I locate and buy the full set).

Actually I’ve noticed ThunderCats has a lot of female fans, as opposed to similar 80’s cartoons…? I always wondered what made it different to hook girls in as well? I honestly think it’s cool! :slight_smile:

Well I loved cats, so that made this cartoon really appeal to me. It also had two main characters who were female, one being an adult and the other being a child and I always really liked Wilykit especially. And then later on they added another female ThunderCat. It was an adventure and had a fantasy element which I enjoyed those kinds of shows. It never felt to me like an overly boys cartoon like G.I. Joe and Transformers did.

True, having strong female leads was a major draw, sure beats the “Penelope Pitstop” type of characters.

Yeah but MOTU had Sorceress and Teela, and while He-Man does have fans, it doesn’t have as many as ThunderCats does! and MOTU also has the spin off draw of She-Ra too!

Maybe I should dress up in Tygra-esque spandex? :wink:

I liked both He-Man and She-Ra as a kid. I tried watching He-Man again as an adult and couldn’t stand watching it. So it did not withstand the test of time like ThunderCats did. I think ThunderCats had just really good storytelling. I did like Rainbow Brite, but she was a take charge kind of girl who was the hero. I also liked My Little Pony, I’m sure I just liked the ponies. There were so many cartoons on in the 80’s! Get-a-long Gang, Monchichis, Shirt Tails, Silver Hawks, Pound Puppies, The Real Ghostbusters, The Adventures of Teddy Ruxpin, Go-Bots, Jem and the Holograms, The Littles, etc…

Pole Position, Spiderman and Friends, Justice League, Dungeons and Dragons… long list of shows, many with capable females in them that served as role models when we were growing up. I got my daughter watching She-Ra in addition to Thundercats, and next up will be the Fox 90s version of X-Men and Silverhawks. She already loves Dark Angel!

I’m not familiar with Pole Position. I heard it referenced in some movie, I think the quote said something about, “your top score in pole position.” Maybe it was in Goonies.

Justice League was another fav of mine. I think AquaMan was my favorite. Maybe because at the time, I was afraid of the water and he wasn’t. If the 90’s version is the first version I ever saw, I liked that version. It was one where Wolverine wore yellow spandex. I did watch cartoons into the 90’s but I know that when Rugrats came out, I had given up on cartoons.

I remember the “Pole Position” cartoon, I liked it. I used to watch it on Saturday mornings. Ah Saturday mornings…it was great till about 12 noon and then the rest of the day sucked on t.v. LOL

ROFLMAO! I never could stand that show either. The 1980’s was the best decade for cartoons.

Best openings/intros/themes, too. Some of the songs just get stuck in your head for a while, can’t tell you how long I had the theme for Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors stuck in my head until I could finally remember what it was.
