Yup, I went so far as to make a discussion thread for the Highlander franchise. In the NOES thread, I said what happened to the franchise isn’t as bad as what happened to Highlander after the first movie. Let me explain why.
You see, the movie did not leave a hook for a sequel. At all. But Part 2 because of the fact that it became a cult classic, but when people saw the sequel; they were incredibly upset. Everything about the original and its continuity were completely disregarded. And I know, didn’t the Renegade Cut improve anything?
I say no. For starters, one of Katana’s flunkies still gets hit in the face for pointing out a plothole (and yes, this actually happened). Second, it does not improve the acting or the dialogue; Michael Ironside and Sean Connery are still unintentionally hilarious. Third, I can go on and on but let me say this, the only sequel I like is Part 3.
It’s back to basics and sure, it’s rehash and normally I hate that about sequels but it was entertaining. The villain’s a riot and despite the fact that he had sorcery, it doesn’t detract anything. It was still fun.
The rest from what I’ve seen, I’m not impressed. And considering how much I hate NOES 2, I know how Spoony feels about Highlander 2 and The Source. Allow me to show you why.
