Help needed to complete the Thundercats Lair Toy Guide!

Hey guys,

We are looking for some help in order to finally complete the Toy Guide for the LJN toys!

We are currently looking for loose pics (must be high resolution) of the following:

-Stilt Runner (front, back, side of vehicle and close up of waist piece)
-Laser Sabers (front, back and side of all 4)
-Bengali wearing Orange Laser Saber (front, back and side)
-Lion-O wearing Blue Laser Saber (front, back and side)
-Mumm-Ra wearing Red Laser Saber (front, back and side)
-Captain Shiner wearing Black Laser Saber (front, back and side)

If possible we’d need them on a dark background, which will make editing them easier. To understand what style of pics we need exactly check out the viewer pics on the guide here:

Anyone that can help with these please send me a pm. Big thanks in advance!

Just replied

Also just to add, all items photographed need to be 100% complete, as the guide is basically demonstrating what you get out of the box/packet. However some mild playwear on the toy is acceptable

Interesting. Is this one going in the Prototype section? Has anyone found this guy MOC to confirm he was made?

yeah, we’ve seen MOC Laser Saber Mumm-Ra, Bengali and Lion-o but Capt.Shiner exists only on the 1987 Rainbows Toys Catalogue. However, after the unexpected emergence of Mad Bubbler’s prototype, Laser Saber Capt. Shiner might also exist somewhere out there…maybe Jordan from Hollywood Heroes could help us out on this one:cool:

I’m quite sure he made it to being packaged, so will go direct on the Toy Guide  If I stand corrected he will move into the Prototypes section.

Has a carded one ever surfaced? That may or may not be indicative of existence as I think up until a few years ago when I read the article on this site about Robimus procuring one that a carded Bengali hadn’t surfaced. We’ve got carded/boxed proof of some pretty rare figures (LS Mumm-Ra, LS Lion-O, LS Bengali, Tongue-A-Saurus, etc) so I would think somewhere out there one would have shown up. Maybe I just missed it but I’ve never seen it

Regardless of where you classify him, can we get Manny’s input on if he’s ever seen or known anyone to have had one of these?

(Note - do the LS figures lack the Battle-Matic action like the LL Mumm-Ra and TW Lion-O? If so then a loose Shiner with no back trigger should be proof that he does exist).

Unless they are missing the battle-matic lever like the Thunderwings and Luna-Laser figures, I doubt it would be possible to verify a LS Shiner without the original package. Which, to the best of my knowledge there are only 1 of each LS Ben-Gali, Mumm-Ra, and Lion-O known to exist. Had any one of those been bought and opened, we would be doubting it ever existed as well.

Personally, I would list the LS Shiner as a produced item and make a small note to indicate a never been opened one has not been confirmed as of yet. I mean, we have confirmation that the other 3 were repackaged into the sets, so no reason the 4th one would not have had the same treatment.

There’s got to be more of them out there. Robimus is the only one to have come forward with the Lion-O, Mumm-Ra, and Bengali, but I believe one other person on this page claimed to have bought a Bengali from that same auction where a handful (8 or 9) were sold.

Checking the packaging on them from Robimus’s collection, none of them (by them I mean the 3 Laser Sabre pictures, TW Lion-O, LL Mumm-Ra) have ‘Battle-Matic Action’ on the packaging, and from the Toy section of the page you can see that both TW Lion-O and LL Mumm-Ra don’t have the back triggers. So I think its safe to assume that the LS figures also don’t have back triggers either.

I am inclined to agree with you that it would be odd that these other 3 were produced but the Shiner wasn’t, but I also have to believe that its impossible that every single LS Shiner ever bought was opened and nobody kept one carded.

I also have to believe that there are several more of these LS figures out somewhere that are either in some people’s collections, or boxed up in some old warehouse that used to be a toy store that has been forgotten about. People find stashes like that still to this day. Case fresh stuff from the 80s.

On the one hand I have to believe he is out there, but on the other hand, with the other rare figures that have surfaced you would think he would have shown up by now too (maybe it was happenstance that Robimus of this site happened to be the one that got those LS figures and was willing to post pictures of them up here.) Either way, I don’t think we’ve seen the last of these ever showing up again somewhere in our lifetime.

Ive never seen a LS Shiner but they were advertised in the dealer catalogs. To my knowledge boxes of figures came mixed with different figures that had the same assortment # so it is safe to say that assortment 3667 which is the assortment for the Laser Sabers “mutant” figures came with a mix of Mummra and Captain Shiner. I highly doubt that the figures are missing the battlematic action.

There should be a few samples of LS Shiner out there but they may be in private collections or in some warehouse waiting to be discovered. To my knowledge it is an item that was produced it just hasnt surfaced yet

I agree as this is different to the Luna Lasher and Thunderwings as both of those had a ‘Battle-Action’

With the Laser Sabers coming at the end of the line, I doubt Ben Gali would have been retooled to remove his Battle-Matic action, however hopefully Robimus can come and clarify some of these points for us and let us know if he can make out any levers on each figure

Another theory I’ve thought about is if these packaged versions could have been early LJN production samples. I’m sure toy companies get the finished toys in package before full retail production begins.

In a way I’m glad these were never around in toy stores here when I was a kid, as I’d been really disapointed to get these as a kid. To me the figures are flawed without their weapons!

I am not a fan of Laser Sabers either. To me Action Figures should be as much faithful to the cartoon as possible. And there wasn’t a single episode where a contraption reminiscing to Laser Sabers was used by a character in the whole series. I know they are considered along with the Thunderwings Lion-o as the Holy Grail but personally i am not so infatuated.

Me either again with the Lion-O/Mumm-Ra Two-Packs. Owning them would be a pain because of the value of them. I guess it’s not so bad if you got them real cheap, but if you paid collecting prices for them, then you really do need to insure your collection in my opinion. To me you can’t enjoy and appreciate a collection if your worrying about it. They are also quite bulky too. Still it’s great that they are out there for fellow fans to see

I disagree with what you said about them being different Blackiecats, but in the interest of not hijacking this thread any further from its original topic, I’ll say we disagree on whether the LL & TW are different from the LS.

When can we look forward to these updates?

It’s ok, as I have help with the pics now, except the Stilt Walker. So if anyone can help with that let me know  The discussion also keeps the thread bumped and it is on topic really so no harm done.

and your entitled to your opinion  I just think they wouldn’t have bothered removing the battle-matic action for the Laser Sabers Two-Packs, since the Sabers don’t have a ‘battle’ action of their own. Another reason is the choice of figures (Ben Gali and Captain Shiner) as I’m not sure why they pick those specific 2 to retool. Obviously Lion-O and Mumm-Ra are understandable being the leaders. It’s just my own theory so I could be wrong…

Hopefully in the next couple of months

I agree that the LS figs still had the levers. Maybe Rob can take a look at his and see if the levers are visible through the bubble.

Is there anything you guys lack from the Mini-figures line? I noticed that particular section of the toy guide has been “coming soon” for some time. I only have Mumm-Ra’s Crypt and a lone tiny Sword Of Omens from that line, but I’d be happy to contribute high res pics of those if you guys needed them. I’m sure board members could help fill in any holes in that line if a list were posted.

Also, I haven’t seen any pics of the Burger King Kids Meal prizes from when they had Thundercats toys in the 80’s. I’m not sure what section of the website those would go in, but I feel like they should be shown somewhere. (They may actually be there somewhere, I just haven’t seen them.) Do you guys need pics of those? I don’t have any, but they aren’t too rare on eBay. I’ve been thinking about picking them up.

We currently have a boxed pic of Mumm-ra’s pic which is enough to make a new page. As far as the Kids meal prizes I’m not quite sure what was released but the only ones I know of are the Thundercats rings and the pencil toppers, I also believe they did glasses but not sure. If you know of any other items given in the kid’s meal you can send them to my website email (mannyscollectibles@thundercatslair.org) and we’ll work it in. As blackiecats said we hope to have new content up within the next month or so.

Merchandise? Well thats a totally different section and a monster of its own…we’re hoping to slash that one as well. Stay on the lookout

Hey guys there were 4 items that Burger King gave away. The ring, pencil topper, light switch sticker, and a cup/bank. I can take some pics if you want to put them on the site.

Thanks for the info…looks like we do have pictures of the other two items
