I just picked up a 14-back Tygra alone MOC (I’m pretty excited about adding this piece to my collection, as it is pretty tough to get ahold of!). It seems to be in great shape, but I wanted to check with you guys whether or not it is AFA worthy. As with most collectors, I would not send it in if it would receive a grade below 80. Do you guys think this would qualify for an 80?
Here’s how it stacks up:
Bubble - clear, no yellowing, slight wear. No dents. Slight lifting on the corners and a bit at the top left hand side. Overall the bubble is fully attached and shows no signs that it will come off at any point.
Card - very slight waviness. slight spidervein at the top left. tiny ding on the bottom left. colors are bright and the card is clean.
Figure - joints look tight. seems to be a dot of factory paint on his chin and on his neck, otherwise excellent shape.
Also, MannyC, any clue why there is no mail away Mumm-ra offer on this figure? It is obviously a series 2 release, and it seems to be an American card (it’s not a Rainbow, Childbro, Toy Options, etc), but it does not have the Mumm-ra offer, which is confusing the heck outta me.
Hmmm… This is pretty interesting. While Tygra was not released during the 3rd series of the Tcats line, this piece is on a 22 back card (only seen on series 3 figures as far as I know) and also has a series 3 mini catalog.

As far as how it would grade, AFA seems to fluctuate a lot on what they consider what, but imo that piece is in very nice condition. I think it would stand a good chance at getting a good grade. Only one way to find out.
Wow I have absolutely no clue whatsoeve, it is in fact the first one I have seen like that. Technically it should be a Toy Options card but yet it has no mention whatsoever of Toy Options and it is on an LJN card.
I really have no answer, the only possible explanation is that LJN in fact actually produced 22 back cards towards the end and they were not limited to Toy Options. I’d be interested to know of any reasons as to why the back of the card loooks the way it does

This is definately a nice rarity! I have seen cards like this before during my collecting, ‘a 22-back pure LJN card’, but never one with Tygra!
Manny is right in his thinking as this cardback is normally most common with the final batch of Rainbow Toys produced UK stock packaged at the Toy Options mill in around 1989! That’s why they have the Toy Options name and address on them. Toy Options is now known as Character and produce the new Doctor Who toys.
I’m unsure if this was intended for release in the USA or not? It possibly could have been from a batch for another english speaking country such as Canada, Australia or Ireland…
I’d be interested to know if you did indeed send this piece to be graded?
