I was wondering what types of plastic or acrylic cases people use to protect their carded Thundercats. I’m also looking for cases for carded Silverhawks too.
I know AFA supplies their own cases, but I was wondering if there’s a generic brand that’s available.

The Pro-tech PVC cases for Star Wars Unleashed fit the regular size carded figure perfectly, nothing to match for the odd sized ones and bigger cards that I’ve found yet. You can get cases of ten on Ebay for $40 from The Earth if they are still in stock, if not there are comparable places online. If you are wanting a hard case the AFA Thundercats generic runs $25 each but goes on sale for around $20 periodically, custom cases are $35-40.

I bought the Pro Tech cases on Robimus recommendation and couldn’t be happier. I actually need to order more. At about $3.00 per case, they work just fine, plus you can hang them which makes displaying them great. As already mentioned, the cards that wont fit are Lion-o w/Snarf, Mummra w/Ravage, 14 back Lion-o / Mummra, Driller, Stinger, Twings Lion-o, LLasher Mummra. Basically the larger cards. For these you will have to order custom acrylic cases from AFA, (or find another alternative), which is what I plan to do, as I want to display all my stuff on those two walls.

I’m thinking the smaller sized cases might be better suited for my Silverhawks figs. Then again, they’re probably around the same size.

Looking good Alex! Starting Lineup Pro-tech cases are a lot smaller and they fit all the Companions series except for Ma-Mutt, he is too thick by about a half inch. Those are usually about 2 bucks apiece if you order them new but if you don’t mind gently used ones I’ll send you 6 for whatever the shipping cost is, I have about 100 stored in a big box! lol When that hobby died on the vine about 8 years ago I went from 20k in inventory to maybe 5k in a year, still sick to think about… But the plus side is I’ve got a lot of the better ones cheap in the last few years.
I’m still looking for a PVC alternative for the bigger cards but I haven’t found it yet, the AFA custom cases are nice but way expensive.
Thanks guys. I am only about 4 figures away from completing the collection in Loose Complete form and I plan to make a long acrylic shelf to display them on. Its just that right now with the way prices are down, I have jump started my MOC collection and put off completing the LC one.
I too would love to find a cheap alternative to the custom acrylic cases from AFA. While I do want my moc Stinger, Driller, Lion-o w/Snarf and most importantly my Twings Lion-o in something solid, right now I just can’t justify spending all that money on cases. You might as well spend the extra $20 and send them in for grading. I too am nervous about sending things in but I can tell you that I sent in 2 Captain Power figures as Guinea pigs just to see how the service was and it was top notch. They (afa) even called me to discuss a better payment option because I selected the wrong tier. CSG on the other hand I have no complaints about what so ever. My thing though is I just don’t see them being able to rival AFA’s popularity and thus I would rather go with AFA in hopes of getting more $$$ from my figures the day I decide to part with them.
Robimus: I will shoot you a PM. I’ll take 7 if you don’t mind. I am only missing Wilykat but I plan on getting the forward facing Snarf, even though I already have him facing sideways. The two MaMutts (chain variations) will have to stay in the larger Pro Tech cases.

Are the AFA cases designed to open and close?
I’d like a few hard cases to put my minty items in, but still want the option of taking them out if I wanted to in the future.
Does anything that fits that description exist? and if so please post links where to get them! Cases made of the same style/soft plastic as the blister bubbles doesn’t interest me.
Acrylic style cases actually hurt the carded figure if you are not careful.
The sides are made of hard plastic that holds the figure in place. When putting your figure in the case, you need to make sure that the plastic tabs do not rub against the card or it will cut into it. In addition, acrylic cases does not exactly keep your cards flat if you are displaying them on the wall. I have used around 50 acrylic cases for my figures and I noticed after a few years, the cards started to buckle because it was hanging on a wall. The clearance allowed the card to buckle and wave.
The ZoloWorld.com case is designed to move the carded figure in and out of the case while keeping the card flat and the bubble protected. It was also designed with storage in mind, as each case interlocks with each other for storage. These cases are hard, but will not break or crack under impact.
Our cases are made of a hardened PVC, not a soft plastic.
Very usefull info,thanks for sharing i would like to ask: If the MOC figure has on top of its left or right card a slight bend and curve forward or backword but is firm, can you still insert it inside the case without damaging and pushing it in to fit forcibly and if yes keeping it that way stored and protected would the curved card get flat inside, like getting the shape of the straight hard case? Our cases are designed to flatten the backer card. If there is a curl or any bending, the case will help to flatten it out, as this is in the design.

I know this is not for “carded”, but, like me, I have all loose and i put the more rare ones in clear plastic boxes that I get from hobby shops. They are normally used for model cars. They are clear on all four sides, so you can stand it on end. They work great.
I have my flesh tone Jaga in one now, since he is pretty rare and mint.
I just received the Deluxe Thundercats cases from Zoloworld for my large Lion-o MOC collection and all i have to say is they are truly amazing! They fit perfectly on the large card making it the ideal protective case for displaying or storing your figures. The transparent plastic is made out of a very good material, the Case is hard enough and designed to flatten the backer card, also you can easily remove your carded figure from the case. I am very satisfied from this purchase and now i am waiting for the standard Thundercats case suited for the smaller 8-backs.
