If anyone is out there looking for graded american thundercats items, I am going to be putting my lion-o and snarf up for sale soon. As some of you probably know, I am starting a small business web services company. I need to pay for some advertising and various “setting up a business officially”-expenses…so I am selling a few items from my personal collection to free up some cash to get things off and rolling.

I am hoping so too…I wouldn’t be selling if I wasn’t looking to pick up some cash. This is all stuff from my own collection. When you’re talking about afa 80 lion-o and snarf, its not something you expect to be able to get again once its gone. AFa lion-os on series 2 or euro cards are popping up all of the time, but this is one of the last remaining high grade american carded pieces from the crazy collection I had at one time.
For anyone who happens to read this and doesn’t know whats up with me, I have two big projects happening at the same time. The web services company I am creating was scheduled to be off and running by now, but we got slowed down so I have run extremely low on working capitol. Even when people tell you “estimate how much time it will take and triple it and plan for that”, you still can run late. I’ve been involved in programming software for a over a year and a half now on and off (without getting paid anything of course) while getting this project off the ground. If it was JUST the programming, it wouldn’t be as bad, but to run a legit business, you need to take care of many other things. Its not just about the product, but its about setting up a way to release the product and get money from people for the product.
The other project (character licensing property) isn’t expect to be off and running until 2009 anyway, but the funding for the second relys slightly on the success of the first. I don’t know how much people here know about the behind the scenes of the business side of character property development, but there are trademarks and legal stuff you need to secure before you can release any product…not to mention needing to develop a product to release to build value in the property innitially…like you can’t write a script and expect to use that to launch a property. You need something to get into stores or onto tv…or the radio…(or whatever) and a system for getting paid from it. Its alot of work/expense to get something out there before you even know if the potential customers like it. My hat is off to anyone who developed and retained (at least partial) ownership of a property that became highly successful-Ted Wolf, the South Park guys, Kevin Smith, Todd Mcfarlane, Eastman and Laird, Vince McMahon, the harry potter author-rowling (not sure if I have the spelling right for her)…I am sure there are others slipping my mind at the moment…There is alot of work and money that needs to be put in to anything before any money is made. If you make a bad move, it can set you back a long way or even kill a project before it gets off the ground. I love stuff like pokemon, he-man, transformers, etc too, but those are more corporate developments that involved many, many people who were all “creators” in some way rather than someone breaking their neck to develop a concept, character set, stories, etc.
I am looking into picking up some additional work for cash until this first project gets off and running. What is a real kick in the ass is that if you look for a “job” in your field while attempting your own business, you run into “conflict of interests” issues. Even if the job is unrelated but in the same general field, employers don’t want to deal with the potential problems…which I can completely understand…but it still sucks. I am only selling the lion-o (and the items that ended tonight) because I need cash to keep things moving forward. I am in a position where I am within a city that requires a business license…and the county does too…so I am getting hit up for double the fees…its little things like that which need to be taken care of before you can really “open your doors”, so to speak. Its the stuff people don’t think of when they think “hey, I bet you can make money in this business”. Everything you need has a set up fee attached somehow and if you don’t have a staff doing things for you, you’re stuck doing the business side of things (setting up accounts and legal crap) yourself while also focusing on doing the programming, or art, or whatever the actual project is suposed to be. I rarely have “free time”, and any money I have is put towards keeping a roof over my head or setting up something business related.
All worth it in the end (including selling some prized collection items) if we can put out a good service (and good character property in a couple of years).
