Apparently the new Ghostbusters cartoon will be set in 2050 and focus on a new generation of Ghostbusters. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see if it will be a continuation of the original Ghostbusters movies or cartoons or this new upcoming Ghostbusters movie.

Hmmmm, sounds interesting. I will have to reserve judgement until I see more.
I will be very happy if they do it more akin to the animated series “The Real Ghostbusters”. 
I don’t like the idea of it being set in 2050. So many shows were set in the future and in doing so it takes away that relatable real world aspect. Ghost in a normal looking house in present day is creepy, but ghosts floating around some future city might not have the same appeal.
Having said that Batman Beyond was set in the future and it was great…although I still think it was set too far in the future and I think that might have been one of the reasons it didn’t have a bigger audience.
That’s the first thing that came to my mind as well. Looks like they’ve forgotten what happened when He-Man was set in the future in “The New Adventures of He-Man”.
You would think that in 2050, the technology has advanced to such a level that pretty much anybody can catch/eliminate a ghost with a fancy laser gun thingy. The original Ghostbusters was a lot more relatable also because it was set in the present time and the Ghostbusters themselves had to build their ghost-catching equipment. So it was not something that anybody could do.
Even Extreme Ghostbusters was set in the present day. A criminally underrated show.
This is strange as a couple months ago Sony was all for making an animated Real Ghostbusters movie.
The concept of He-man going into the future was okay. Although the comics was better as he was just going off into space. I think the biggest problem it had was that it was just so different to the Filmation cartoon.
Even in the original Transformers cartoon the present day episodes are still relevant and relatable today, yet the season 3 episodes set on earth in the future look the most dated and un-relatable. Even odder was the mix of 80’s vehicles Transformers that were still seen alongside their 20+ year future Transformers. Surprisingly it was the present day looking toys that were still the most popular.
I hope they change their mind about setting it in the future.
