Game: ThunderCat Trivia

Erm, sorry to get pedantic, but when I said cast, I meant actors and not characters!

Wow! Amazing that we all misread it. That’s actually a much better question, but it’s going to take some extra thinking.

A LOT of extra thinking! Since each actor voiced more than one of the main characters (sometimes uncredited minor characters as well), it’s really gonna take some pondering.

If I were to just hazard a guess, I’d say Larry Kenney was probably present in all Episodes as Lion-O was in all of them. And by the same reasoning, Earle Hyman was probably in all of them as well as Bob McFadden

Lynne Lipton maybe didn’t record any lines for “The Mountain” and “Super Power Potion” as both Cheetara and Wilykit were absent from these two episodes and there was no other female character in them.

Peter Newman may have been absent in the “Terror of Hammerhand” as both Tygra and Wilykat weren’t in it.

Earl Hammond might have been absent in “Terror of Hammerhand”, “Tower of Traps”, “Mandora Evil Chaser”, and “Fireballs of Plun-darr”.

Taken in terms of who was and wasn’t in all the episodes, you’ve got 5/6 correct.

In terms of specific episodes, you’re largely correct again, but there’s one episode you’ve listed above that does have the full cast, and at least two more I can think of where someone was missing that you haven’t listed.

And of course, I don’t know the stats for the later series anyway, so if anyone is able to identify all that, fair do’s to them.

I’m not familiar with the cast, so I can’t answer this lol

Let’s stick to Season One for now.

“Terror of Hammerhand” does feature the whole cast. Peter Newman plays the male Unicorn Keeper, and Earl Hammond is Hammerhand. Hence, Peter Newman is in all the episodes, along with Larry Kenney, Earle Hyman, and Bob McFadden (assuming that Lion-O, Panthro, and Snarf always have lines when onscreen). “Mandora the Evil Chaser” also features everyone—Hammond voices QuickPick.

We’ve already covered both of Lynne Lipton’s absences (“The Mountain” and “Superpower Potion”), using Cheetara as a proxy.

That leaves Earl Hammond. He must be absent from more episodes, which makes sense, since he voices none of the living ThunderCats. I would look first to episodes that feature the Bob McFadden version of Vultureman (“Lord of the Snows”, “Return to Thundera”, and “Snarf Takes Up the Challenge”), except that Hammond is in each of those (he voices Snowman and Mumm-Ra).

I would next look to episodes that do not feature Vultureman, Mumm-Ra, or Jaga. This is made trickier by the fact that Hammond voices additional one-off characters (Grune, Turmagar, Terrator, Chimera, Molemaster, some of Tartara’s henchmen, one of the two Oceanic Plug idiots, etc.). Anyway, here are all the Season One episodes I can think of that are missing Hammond:

  • “Slaves of Castle Plun-Darr”, unless he voiced the Brutemen
  • “Tower of Traps” (already mentioned by WilyCub)
  • “Fireballs of Plun-Darr” (also mentioned by WilyCub)
  • “Trial of Strength”, unless he voiced the birds at Acid Lake
  • “The Trouble with ThunderKittens”

Season Two is a can of worms that I’d rather not open right now.

Pretty much completely correct here. I can now provide the final answers:

Larry Kenney - Lion-O in all episodes
Earle Hyman - Panthro in all episodes
Robert McFadden - Snarf in all episodes except “Out Of Sight”, which features Slithe already, so again, in all episodes

Peter Newman - Tygra in 62 episodes . . .
Tygra is absent from “The Terror Of Hammerhand” and “The Trial Of Cunning”, and has no lines in “Tight Squeeze”. Monkian and Wilykat are both present in the latter two, but also both absent from “The Terror Of Hammerhand” - however, as Zax has observed, Newman voices the Unicorn Keeper - making him possibly the only cast member to be in an episode devoid of all his regular characters!

Lynne Lipton - Cheetara in 63 episodes, absent from “The Mountain” and “The Superpower Potion”.

  • “The Trouble with ThunderKittens”

Pretty much correct here. What I don’t know is who provided the voice of Robear-Bill. The special mic makes it impossible to identify.

As far as I can tell, Earl Hammond is absent from all the episodes you’ve listed. Mind you, some of the guest characters you’ve credited to Hammond, I thought were voiced by McFadden - Molemaster and Grune.

Actually, while we’re on the subject of who voiced who - there seems to be some disagreement over who voiced Ratar-O and Tug-Mug. Obviously they have the same voice, but I’ve seen different sources crediting those voices to Robert McFadden or Earl Hammond, while to my ears it sounds more like Larry Kenney.

Season Two is a can of worms that I’d rather not open right now.

Fair enough!

Anyhow, the results - Wilycub got more correct answers sooner, so it’s your turn!

I’ve wanted to know the same thing. Hopefully someone here knows and can enlighten us all.

According to Crichton’s book (“Hear the Roar”), McFadden voiced Grune and Molemaster and Kenney voiced Ratar-O and TugMug.

Anyhow, the results - Wilycub got more correct answers sooner, so it’s your turn!

Thank you! Ok, here’s my question:

Name the episodes in which the Sword of Omens failed to show Lion-O “Sight Beyond Sight” and also the reason why it failed to do so.

Glad I’m not going bonkers then!

Name the episodes in which the Sword of Omens failed to show Lion-O “Sight Beyond Sight” and also the reason why it failed to do so.

OK, let’s see . . .

“The Ghost Warrior” - the Sword couldn’t tell him a story from the past.
“Spitting Image” - the radiation from the chasm blocked him
“Mongor” - all we got was “some kind of force” is blocking it
“Safari Joe” - his force-field blocked the sword, no explanation why

That’s all I can think of for the moment.

Those four were also the same one that I thought up. If anyone can recall any more, then please do add them here. But if no one replies with any more answers in the next couple of days, then you “LiamABC” will be the winner of this round.

I’ve also started a new game (Thundercats Quintet Game). Please do check it out and participate.

I’ll have to think of another question then!

I’ve also started a new game (Thundercats Quintet Game). Please do check it out and participate.

Interesting. While we’re at it, there’s a few threads that seem to have dried up:

1 - Quotations game. I admit I posted something that didn’t have any real distinguishing features, so I’ll give you a clue. It was said by a Thundercat in season 1 when rescuing a damsel in distress.

2 - Hangman game. Nobody’s even made an effort on the last one

3 - CONTINUITY ORDER. Anyone with fresh ideas, please get this going again, if we can put season 1 into a rock-solid order, that’ll be a major coup.

ALL RIGHT THEN, I’VE GOT A NEW QUESTION:

Who is the first character to have his or her theme played in the show?

Was it Cheetara in “Slaves of Castle Plun-Darr”?

Wrong on both counts.

Was it Panthro in Berbils; the part were it starts raining stones, well, boulders and Panthro gets in the Thundertank…?

Again, doubly wrong - or, to be pedantic, triply wrong, because Panthro’s theme isn’t even played at that point!

That would be Snarf in “Exodus”, unless you consider that calm piano piece in Lion-O’s bedroom to be Lion-O’s theme, which I don’t.

Right, right.. it’s the ThunderTank theme, right?

We have a winner! It is indeed Snarf in Exodus!

YOUR TURN ZAX!

I agree, that calm piano piece (usually reserved for the end of the show after they’ve won) doesn’t really count as Lion-O’s theme. I’m sure Hoffer has indicated that Lion-O does have a theme, but I couldn’t guess what. The Sword has about three themes, maybe he was thinking of one of those?

Merged Post:

Also correct - in the normal episode, all the way through that scene. In the Movie version, it changes midway (also in the Movie version, we hear the Kittens’ theme at the start of “The Slaves Of Castle Plun-Darr”, as opposed to that calm piece that also opens up “The Unholy Alliance”).

Okay, new question!

Which characters were voiced by more than one actor over the course of the series, and in which episodes (i.e. voiced by Larry Kenney in episode A but by Lynne Lipton in episode B)?

I can think of four, so give me four.

Okay, I’ll have a go…

1.Char:
Larry Kenney in The Heritage
Doug Preis in Return To ThunDera!

2.Vultureman:
Bob McFadden in Lord Of The Snows
Earl Hammond in Vultureman’s Revenge

3.Mumm-Rana
Lynne Lipton in Mumm-Rana
Gerrianne Rafael in Mumm-Rana’s Belt

4.Ancient Spirits of Evil:
Earle Hyman in The DoomGaze
Doug Preis in ThunderCubs
