An idea came to mind that would help the site to bring in extra funds, actually Ive thought about this for quite some time and think it would be succesful. My idea was to print on glossy photograph paper the Thundercats group picture as well as any of the other ones we feature on the Treasures of Thundera page. Of course i think it is more than fair to provide Kyle with a share from each picture sold because it is his art after all but we can print them in 8 x 10 size. We can work on making them bigger but that would require contacting a local printer to do the job for us. I am willing to cover the costs of paper and printing and what is left over after initial costs can go towards a site account with Paypal. The funds would help cover for things like give aways, hosting,domain renewal,etc. If you all give me the nod on it I can post an announcement on the boards that we can make those. Also I would like to know any suggestion on price for each, shipping included of course.
But would this be ‘legally’ ok to do? I mean it’s ok doing the odd trade of custom art via the forum on a person to person basis, but I’m not sure about using the site to flog mass produced copies of these at a set price. Warner Bros. might not take too kindly to us doing that.
I can’t see the harm in Kyle doing trades via the forum for it though to the odd person who requests it.
Appologies for dely in responce… wanted to have a think about this. I agree with Neils worry about copyright. Fan sites usually have to state that they gain no profit from the site. Although original art, the premisis is stolen. I don’t have a problem with it… but I don’t want to be responcible if any trouble came our way..

It is copyrighted material so I can understand what could happen in the case WB decides to do something about it. I’d much rather save us the trouble than have to deal with WB.I figured it could be a good idea but it could potentially create problems. I know there are several people who have inquired about it and thats why i brought up the idea.If there is a different way of going about doing this it would help out the site greatly, if not then we can scrap the idea. It’s better in the end to be safe than sorry

I would be tempted to sell prints of these to anybody who asks - but, not actually advertise them for sale through the site. I have seen quite a few instances of artists (both pro’s and amateurs) selling ThunderCats-related artwork, both as comissions and just as pieces they’ve created, even on places like eBay! 
However, I think where there is a difference is that the artists I’ve seen have usually been selling originals rather than mass-produced copies…
I don’t think WB would have any issues whatsoever with an artist selling a comission piece that featured the ThunderCats characters (if they did, they’d be the first company I’d ever heard of who did), but I could imagine them having a problem with a site like ours selling what, in their eyes, would be unlicensed ThunderCats posters. 
I would definitely get some prints made up, if only because I’d like one! 
And, I think you’d get away with selling a few on a private basis, because the artwork is original - but, for this site to actually advertise them for sale I think would be a bad idea.
Just as something else to throw into the mix - I remember a few years ago He-Man.Org were selling special He-Man.Org t-shirts, with the site logo. I seem to recall someone saying that they weren’t allowed to reference He-Man, She-Ra or Masters of the Universe on the t-shirts because those names were trademarked. Neil may remember this better than me, and I’d urge you not to take my word for it - this might be an interesting thing to research…

what if we were to do something else. Maybe not use the actual characters, but sort of real generic ones or just the Thundercatslair.org logo.
I do think that once we start to profit WB might have a problem with it.
I remember Kate mentioning once that a Harry Potter website were selling T-Shirts. Let’s just say apparently Warner Bros. were not amused by it and issued a cease and desist notice. Granted Harry Potter is a mucn bigger brand than Thundercats but I’d sooner us avoid any legal hassle has we just don’t need that kind of worry. I’d suggest if anyone on the forum wants prints then it can easily be done via pm and email.
and if you want to be extra safe, request to do the trade for a material object such as a DVD, CD or figure as payment. If you don’t accept payment in the form of cash WB can’t touch you.
But if we want to earn revenue for the site, your best bet is Amazon.com associates program or any other similiar schemes.
As for the site name, I’m not sure where we stand legally on that as it does still contain the ‘Thundercats’ name in it.
There’s a couple of people already on the boards that are interested in getting a poster sized group shot pic. I have been given the green light by Kyle to make it but only to those interested without making a public announcement. Mesepher would really like to get one which brings me to my next point…what would be a fair price to charge for something like this. I guess it all depends on how much is the initial cost. I will probably make one for myself this weekend and let you all know the cost so I can get some price suggestions
