I had an odd situation at one of my local Wal-Marts. They had recently put out a ThunderCats section in the toy aisle. However, when I went back just the other day, the section is gone. There are no figures randomly laying around, and no pegs for them anymore. It is as if they had a shipment come in, put them out, sold them all, and then took out the spot for more.
Hopefully this is not happening elsewhere as it could indicate either poor sales, or low supplies. But of the 4 Wal-Marts near me, I have yet to find any ThunderCats items in 2 of them, and 1 had them shortly but no more. Only 1 has had figures each time I’ve been there since first sighting them, but it has been a while since I have been to that one…
I haven’t had any de-sightings, but I also find in my area that most Walmarts do not seem to carry them. I believe I only have one near me that I have consistently seen them. I will say that each time that store did have a good supply of them though.
The local Toys R Us are the only ones that have had everything… the nearest Walmart only has had the 4 inch regular, sword of omens and the Thundertank and the nearest Target has never had anything remotely close to Thundercats merchandise.
The oldest Wal-Mart in Fayetteville, NC is the worst-stocked. The figures are on the “didn’t make room for this stuff in the planagrams” shelves, wherever they can find room. Thundertanks are on the same shelf, but usually easier to find. Deluxe Sword of Omens are on the shelf in an opened case because there are no pegs for them.
Meanwhile, the nearby Hope Mills Wal-Mart, which has the smallest toy department and usually has to cram stuff mismatchedly (Lego and non-Barbie dolls on the same aisle) has expanded their Thundercats display to three columns of pegs for the figures, as well as pegs for the deluxe Sword, and shelf space for the Thundertank AND the $15 vehicles.
K-Mart in this area got one case of 4" figures back in the beginning and hasn’t restocked since. However, they have 4" deluxe figures and 8" collector figures (non-classic), as well as the deluxe Sword and the Thundertank.
Toys R Us has pretty much everything (though not a guaranteed supply of the rare figs), but everything other than the Thundertank is more expensive. Significantly so for the deluxe and collector figures.
hey Richard you’re in the same area as me lol. Head to the walmart in Lumberton. last I looked (about two weeks ago) they had every single figure other than the 4’’ deluxes.
as for sales being low from what ive heard that’s absolutely not the case. they’ve been selling very well.
Not really seen much in the uk as there not released yet. But i dont expect a massive ordeal about it..
Cartoon Network hasnt done any kind of advertisement around UK for it. Just released the cartoons and that it. Shame really. Something that could of been massive. Who knows, Might be different when the toys hit the shelves…
Ever-so-slightly OT, but my own instinct is that ThunderCats will end up being shown on ITV’s children’s block one weekend morning, and that’s where it will pick up steam - the 200X relaunch of MOTU was pretty big here in the UK (much bigger than in the US), and that head of steam built up once it started showing on ITV on a Sunday morning!
It wouldn’t surprise me if that’s the reason why the toys aren’t coming out until December too!
I believe the deluxe figures are only sold at Toys R Us stores, and some online retailers. I’ve seen figures in Wal-Mart and Toys R Us stores in 3 states, every TRU has a section for deluxe figures, and not a single Wal-Mart has had a single peg for them… At least for what I’ve seen.
Hmm, that’s weird, I went in a TRU and didn’t see a single one, but that was a while back and I was mainly looking for the normal 4 inch figures, so I may have overlooked them. Thanks.
