Just a minor rant here

Why didnt the DVD release come with a complete version of Exodus or atleast the VHS and Broadcast versions.

Right now Im encoding the VHS into a DVD so I can make a complete version.

Very tedious.

Anyone here from the UK and have the ThunderCats HO! VHS? I’ve often wondered if it like the Exodus VHS has extra or alternate scenes

Any interest here in a combined version of Exodus when I’m done?

PS: We still need some Lunatac Smilies :panthrohappy:

To be honest, I’d actually be slightly surprised if Warner Bros even own the “movie” version of “Exodus” - I reckon the footage is lost in a vault somewhere… :frowning:

Nope, unfortunately the only difference from the stand-alone episodes is cut footage - several fight scenes end up on the cutting room floor, as well the episode recaps (which you might expect). :frowning:

Out of curiosity, how do you mean a “combined” version? Off the top of my head I would have said that there was nothing that appears in the stand-alone episode that isn’t there, complete with extra footage, in the “movie” version. :confused:

I know that the stand-alone episode of “The Unholy Alliance” has some different music cues, as do “Berbils” and “The Slaves of Castle Plun-Darr” compared to the versions tacked onto the “movie version” of “Exodus” that was released on VHS - “Berbils” also has a heck of a lot of extra footage in the stand-alone episode compared to the “Exodus movie version”… :slight_smile:

Ok just finished the first episode ‘Exodus’

The primary things cut were mutant dialog, and Tcat dialogue about the suspension capsule.

Two things of interest that were cut are;

  1. The Mutants don’t seem to work together often, and don’t trust slythe to share the power of the eye of thundera.

  2. Jaga knows Slythe’s name “Where is your leader? That wretch Slythe?”

I’m happy with the first effort, an addition of 5min of footage to a halfhour cartoon is a large percentage.

I wish I had a way to get a working copy of the movie version

Wish you could do my copy, Coldwin. I’d probably ask you to make me a copy of the stuff you’ve already done, but my own copy is such a treasured part of my childhood I want to do it. Besides, I don’t want to put you out. I’m guessing you’d send it via E-mail and my E-mail is kinda iffy when it comes to attachments. I don’t want to take a chance of it being ruined. And I would have to burn it to DVD and I don’t have a DVD burner. Sigh :frowning:

So, if read this all correctly, there is a DVD version of “Exodus”, and broadcast version with additional footage, and a VHS version with additional footage, but not the same as the broadcast version. Is this correct?

Almost. Basically, there are two versions of the episode “Exodus”:

  • The one that makes up more than half of the ThunderCats pilot that was originally broadcast, which features additional footage

  • The “stand-alone” episode version which was released into syndication, and features some scenes missing (had they left them intact from the ThunderCats pilot, the episode would have probably been around 27 minutes long) - this is the version that has been released on DVD.

Now, when the ThunderCats pilot was released on VHS back in the 1980s, it had two other episodes edited onto the end to make it into an hour-long “movie”. Those two episodes were “Berbils” and “The Slaves of Castle Plun-Darr”. However, there was no additional footage present for either of those episodes - indeed, “Berbils” was heavily edited. The only difference between the home video “movie” versions of those episodes are that there were a couple of lines of dialogue “dropped out” of scenes, and also in a couple of instances a different music cue for a couple of scenes. :slight_smile:

To further complicate the issue, the UK VHS release of the ThunderCats pilot (complete with the episodes mentioned above) was edited slightly for Panthro’s martial arts action, so there’s a difference between the UK and US video releases! :slight_smile:

I see. Thanks for the info. So I take it that they all had the “Unholy Alliance” episode as part of the “Exodus” episode? It seems then that the best way to watch it would be by having the original broadcast version of “Exodus”, and then watching the stand-alone “Berbils”, and “Slaves of Castle Plun-Darr”.

Yep! And, I would say that all of the footage of “The Unholy Alliance” that featured in the ThunderCats pilot made its way into the stand-alone episode - the only difference being a different music cue for one scene, plus two scenes were flipped over so that they happen in reverse order to how they appear in the stand-alone episode! :slight_smile:

Oh, one more thing. It take it this also means that the original broadcast version of “Exodus” was not edited in a way where scenes were taken out of the original broadcast part when it was released on the US VHS? Scenes were added, not taken out. Is that correct?
