Robber Baron Connor – Deceased robber who set traps to prevent others from taking his loot
We see a possible “power” of Wily Kit’s twice in the episode. The first time is when trying to stop the robbery of the Wollow; she curls up into a ball and is able to roll into an opponent at high speed to attempt to recover the stolen pouch.
Poor Snarf, he hates being in water, but he keeps ending up in it. How can the Sword of Omens see that Wily Kit is upset, but not show Wily Kat, who is within a few yards of Wily Kit?
Sword Rule #8: Sight Beyond Sight also includes Hearing Beyond Hearing
Wily Kat managed to make it to the top of the tower by himself, yet Lion-O and Kit get stuck at the first set of stairs and need to use the Sword… Unless the traps can reset on their own, Kat must have made it up without setting off any of them. Kat’s talent must be breaking and entering, lol.
Sword Rule #9: The Sword can extend longer than usual to be used as a pole vault.
So what does the giant octopus eat on a regular basis to keep from starving?

Why can’t the Sword make an opening for them to escape? Instead they wait until they are stuck on the roof fighting gargoyle creatures to call for help
“Big word” of the episode #2: gargoyle – stone statues that are placed on towers and other high places of structures.
I never thought about how sight-beyond-sight allowed Lion-O to see Wilykit who was worried but not see Wilykat who was in actual danger. That’s interesting.
My understanding was some cage came down on Wilykat and immediately took him to the top of the tower, so I didn’t get the impression he had to get past all those traps like Lion-O and Wilykit did.
When Kit and Lion-O finally reach Kat he explains what happened. I could be wrong, but I thought Kat said he walked into the room and the cage fell on him. Whatever Kat says, I do remember I always took it to mean he made it to the top of the tower, then got trapped. That never made sense to me, as both paths had at least one trap that seemed to be a one-time use (melting bridge and carpet hiding giant octopus creature).
Lion-O: Did Baron Carnor do this to you?
Wilykat: I haven’t seen anyone, Lion-O. This cage suddenly came down on top of me and the next thing I knew, I was a chandelier!
I had always taken it that when he tried to force the door open, the cage fell down on top of him and took him to the top of the tower but it’s hard to say. Maybe there was a third way up that he found.
When the stairs were so tricky I always wondered why they didn’t just scale the walls instead. You got claws for a reason, right? Maybe that’s what Kat did and bypassed the other traps without setting them off.
I remember this episode scaring the living daylights out of me when I was young… I can’t put my finger on how or why, but it just seemed menacing (fear of the unknown maybe?) I really should get around to watching it again…
I love this episode, it’s one of my favorites. And I must admit mcss aerocoupe makes some very good observations. I’ll respond them as best I can:
1.) I also liked WilyKit’s ability to curl up into a ball and knock an enemy down, like she was a bowling ball knocking down a bowling pin. I was sorry the writers didn’t allow her to do it more often; it certainly would have come in handy at times.
2.) How can the Sword see Kit frantically looking and calling out for WilyKat, but not show Kat being caught in the suspended cage? Hee-hee, it’s a hidden talent of the Eye of Thundera called Cherry-Picking Beyond Cherry-Picking To Lengthen A Story Plot.
3.) I’ve always accepted WilyKat’s explanation about the cage coming down on top of him, so I’m thinking that’s what happened after he was moved that doorknocker enough to spring the trapdoor under his feet (Lion-O later touched the knocker with the tip of the Sword and sprung the trapdoor under him and Kit. It would explain why the cage didn’t capture them, as Kat was already in it).
4.) Yes, in this story the Sword begins to show its lengthening ability.
5.) What did the giant octopus eat to keep from starving? I don’t know. Maybe the octopus is immortal and doesn’t really need to eat live prey unless that prey unwittingly gets within reach.
6.) Why didn’t the Sword make a hole in the side of tower to help them escape? Hee-hee, it’s the same thing here – “Sword of Omens, give me Cherry-Picking Beyond Cherry-Picking To Lengthen This Story.”
