Ugh…
The Cartoon and Comics section were accidently deleted.
Fortunately I backed up those two directories a couple days ago…so those should be okay when I get home from work.
I don’t know if anything else was deleted.
Update when I get home. ![]()
Dude stop pulling my leg…I shut down the forums as an April Fool’s joke. I think youre trying to punk me out. However if you deleted it by mistake i hope you have back up
I hate April Fool’s
Guys, I was online with Manny when this happened. He just made a mistake and deleted some of the site temporarily. He had to head off to work but he’s going to fix it when he gets back. The site has not been lost, and will just be down until he has a chance to fix it.
No problem Im sure it will get taken care of
Chris here…
How the bloody hell do you delete the entire Cartoon & Comic Sections - surely to do that it would require you to either go into the main directory and overwrite them or hit “delete”? :?
Not sure if this is an April Fool’s joke or not, but if it is, it ain’t funny - I’m on the verge of going to the doctor’s with stress and panic attacks, I am currently enjoying one of the worst weeks of my life and really don’t need this to make it worse… :x
Luckily I haven’t updated anything to do with either of those two sections for the past couple of days - if I had, and something had been lost, I would not be a happy bunny. Once I have my external hard drive properly up and running I plan to back the site up at period intervals, in case of just such an emergency - however, with all attempts made not to take my bad mood out on anybody here, if whole sections of this site are going to get deleted by mistake then folks need to be more careful…
You and me both - right now, I kinda hate life in general, but we won’t talk about that… ![]()
Take care… ![]()
K not an April Fools joke… it was an honest mistake. Manny was showing me how to use wordpress and he made a once in a lifetime… totally uncharacteristic mistake and wiped some of the live site. Nothing seems to have been lost so we can all breathe a sigh of relief that Manny backs the site up periodically.
I’m gonna work on restoring the site from my own back up files…
They will be out of date, but at least something of the cartoon section will be up in the meantime until Manny can fix it.
See this is why I have backed up my whole Toy section…
I’m also gonna put a temp front page up so folks know what’s going on and not to panic!
ok… my archive pre-dates the redesign so it’s pointless me uploading it ![]()
However I have restored the front page the best I can and at least folks know not to panic and that we will be back. This is something that should have been done if we want to be professional about this site.
No, I don’t do April Fool’s jokes. I dislike them just as much as you do. I didn’t mean to cause anyone else to stress out. You guys should know me by now that I wouldn’t make such a joke.
Am I that mean of a person?
I did say I have a backup…I understand why you guys would be mad at me, but I seriously was going to restore it as soon as I got home.
I backup the important parts of the site at the end of the month and luckily, this happened a few days after I did March’s backup.
It freaked me out at first…but I had a backup so I wasn’t too worried.
I was teaching Mark how to use Wordpress and had to reset his FTP account. While I was doing that, I saw that Celesta’s FTP account was still active and decided to delete it. When I hit the button “delete account”, the page was refreshing and listing things it was deleting and at that point, I quickly closed my browser before it could wipe out the entire site.
From what I’ve noticed it was only the Cartoon and Comics section since those were the first two directories (alphabetical order).
Relax Chris.
Things will get better. ![]()
Besides, I could have also asked the host to do a restore as well. Nothing is totally lost.
I literally had no time to put up a note on the front page which is why I made a quick announcement note on the forums. I know not everyone goes on the forums, but it was all I could do. The whole thing happened 5-10 minutes before I had to go to work. I had absolutely no time.
Anyhow, I’m restoring everything as I type this…so no worries.
Again sorry about that.
Update: The majority of the cartoon section is back up. There is only 1 file from the cartoon area that is not uploaded…it’s that huge 110MB video file.
It took only 6,000 files and 3 hours to do it.
I had to keep an eye on it because my FTP program disconnects from the server every 30 minutes. You can imagine the hassle.
The Comics section is not up yet. Suffice to say, those large image files are going to kill my bandwidth…and probably take another 3 hours so I’m going to do it when I wake up in the morning.
It’s not the end of the world…it’ll be up soon. ![]()
In your defence, 3 others acknowledged this thread too.
I see everything is getting back to normal, so no harm done I guess. Manny be more careful in future, cos your gonna give us all heart attacks! ![]()
My uploading speed is terrible though.
If anyone has copies of the eComic on their drive…is it possible to upload those? My ISP sends me warnings if I upload a certain amount of data and I don’t want to get in trouble. It’s the PDF files that are like 24MB and a total of 6 files.
Chris: Could you upload the “TV on Trial” video file? That’s the 180MB file and that would take me literally 4-6 hours to upload. It should be uploaded to the cartoon/specials/tv/tvtrial/ directory.
Could I also make a suggestion…after going through all this uploading, we need to minimize the large files guys. 180MB (:jaw:) is a huge file and each person who downloads or tries to stream it from the site will take a large chunk out of our bandwidth. ![]()
EDIT: At least the site didn’t get hacked. My personal site got hacked. ![]()
I can try and do it again at a lower quality I guess. Although are we really cracking into the old bandwidth? I have huge files on my site and my bandwidth is fine :?
Why would the site get hacked? I don’t understand… is your site hosted with Hostmonster? I don’t like the sound of this… if it’s easy to hack sites hosted with them, I might think about going elsewhere for hosting for my own site later this autumn. I hope Hostmonster do something about this and compensate you!
It has more to do with the video format. If the format was something like mpeg or mp4, it’d probably be smaller. ![]()
Plus, Mac users won’t be able to play .wmv unless they install a third party app and it’d be convenient if they could view it using Quicktime. Just a suggestion…not forcing it on anyone. ![]()

My site is hosted on Surpass Hosting. Mine got hacked because that’s the site the hacker chose…they do it for fun. Every site is vulnerable to hacks. There is no way to avoid it because hackers are good at what they do. Even large websites get hacked…not at easy as smaller sites, but it has happened.
Chris here…
First of all, can I apologise for losing my cool in my earlier post - like I say, things right now are really crap. As well as problems with the folk music club I run (details on www.willowsfolkclub.org), could I also refer you guys to this post from me at He-Man.Org - it’s easier to link than re-type it, and if anyone’s unsure of what I’m talking about, you can just backtrack in the thread: http://www.he-man.org/forums/boards/showthread.php?p=1912488#post1912488 … ![]()
I’ll have a look and see if I have it - bear in mind it was Neil who created that and uploaded it to the Cartoon Section, so I may not have it saved… ![]()
In terms of the TV on Trial video file, from memory the biggest thing about is that it has a great deal of extraneous footage outside of the ThunderCats + 1980s action toons in general segment, basically I think it’s the first 20 mins or so of the programme up the point where the ThunderCats/He-Man/etc. stuff appears. IMO the best thing to do would be to edit the pre-existing video clip, which should bring it down to a more manageable size - sadly I don’t believe I have the software to do this, or I’d be happy to help (time permitting). Hope nobody is offended by me making this observation, my head’s in a complete and total funk right now and it’s hard to articulate anything much! ![]()
Take care… ![]()
I can convert the video…since it’s already on my hard drive. I’ll experiment with the different types of video formats and see which will decrease the file size, but keep the quality. I’ll eventually be converting all the videos into flash so that it’ll be easy to stream and doesn’t necessarily require a download…though we’ll still give them the option ![]()
