Just received this in my inbox…figured you guys can take a look at it and see what you think
Hello TCL,
Let me start off by saying that while I’m not a member of your site, I’m an avid, avid Thundercats fan and 80’s toys/cartoon fan in general. They all hold a special place in my heart. However Thundercats goes above and beyond and is my all time favorite show. Earlier this year at SDCC it was reported on your site that Mattel (via Mattycollector.com) has been aggresively pursuing the Thundercats license for a line of figures. It seems, however, that news on the matter again seems to have dissappeared from the radar.
I checked the backstory from the site and I know several TCL founding members used to post on he-man.org. They along with several other sites have direct contact to Mattel via Q & A sessions where they get updates to Mattel related licenses (MOTU, Ghostbusters, DC Universe, etc). Mattel and WB Already have a working relationship seen by the fact that Mattel releases DC Universe figures.
I had hoped that news would continue to trickle out on the matter, and that, with the 25th anniversary of the show coming up next year that we would get news that they had finally reached an agreement for a 4 Horsemen redesigned classics line. I now think that hope rests in the hands of the fans. I think if we let WB sit on their laurels that they won’t have anything other than the Hard Hero line in store for the 25th anniversary. It’s nice, but I think a LOT of fans want a new figures line (among other things, like a Digitally Remastered Blu-Ray/DVD release packed with good extras like toy commercials).
There’s two things I’m hoping to get a response back on from this e-mail
-
Is there any way we (interpret this as TCL, or Thundercats fans in general) can get some ‘skin (fur?) in the game’ so to speak on those Mattel Q&A sessions done every month by getting in contact with a representative to do a Q&A session on the TCL site regarding the figure license line? Not even once a month, just once period would be a start.

If that doesn’t lead anywhere and Cats fans really want a new line, I think it’s up to us to bring it to fruition by getting in contact with WB and possibly setting up a petition. But not just a TCL petition, a petition interspread among Thundercats sites, He-Man sites, Transformers sites, and 80’s toy/cartoon sites in general and wherever it can get signatures from, and then personally delivered to WB that we want a new figures line, done right, and done with fan input from sites like this one.
I know that was a lot to digets, but if there’s even a hint of something that can be done by the fans, please let me know, I’m tired of sitting back and just waiting for it to happen.
Avid Thundercats fan who wants a new figure line (preferrably with Battle-Matic action),
