Quick question - does anybody know where I can lay my hands on some easy to use and preferably free software for creating video clips such as we have hosted on this site?
The reason why I ask is because we are getting a lot of requests from visitors to this site to get online the ādeleted scenesā from the āmovieā version of āExodusā that was released on home video. Now, I know we did have a couple of clips up showcasing some of these scenes that MannyF and Neil put together - however, something Iāve been nervous about mentioning for fear of causing offence is that those clips actually only showcased a couple of the deleted scenes that were present, with several more of them still missing, and one of the video files actually ended in the middle of one of the deleted scenes!
So, with no offence meant to anybody Iād really like to start from scratch with showcasing those deleted scenes - but, at the moment I know that both MannyF and Neil have got a lot on their plates and so the last thing they need is me being demanding and adding more work, LOL! So, I was basically wondering if anybody here could help me out with getting my hands on some software that would allow me to create the files myself?
I have the āmovieā version of āExodusā ripped to DVD-R, thanks to Neil who sent it to me ages ago, so all I actually need to capture from it is the necessary software. If anyone has any suggestions that would be absolutely awesome - many thanks as always for your help, guys!
LOL, if I had my time again Iād get myself a Mac - they just seem so much better than Windows, even though PCs tend to be kind-of the industry standardā¦
Well, I promise I wasnāt dropping hints, Iām quite happy to do it myself if I can get my hands on the software - I would say that I could tell you exactly where Iād be after each clip starting and ending from the video itself (e.g., āfrom 7 mins 45 seconds to 8 mins 4 secondsā - you get the idea), they would all be short but there would be a reasonable number of them! If this sounded like something youād be able to help with that would be awesome, if itās a hassle then donāt worry, Iāll keep hunting for the software!
Also, if you were able to help and it would be easier for you, in all probability I could burn you off a copy of the DVD that Neil sent me - Iāve only ever made one DVD-R to DVD-R copy, but it seemed to work perfectly!
Itās cool, my friend, I know everyone here is super busy, yourself very much included, so the last thing I want to do is further add to your workload, LOL! I would say that thereās certainly no real urgency with this, Iād like to get it done, say, maybe this side of early March, but thereās no deadline.
Yeah definitely, if anyone else knows of any easy and free software for creating video clips that I could use, that would be awesome!

It can be incredibly frustrating (and I myself use different software for making my videoās) but Windows Movie Maker is quick and easy to use. And you can import most types of video files in there.
It comes in for a lot of flack (from myself included, Lol), but if your just editing out some clips, Iād say go for Windows Movie Maker.
Just note down all the starts and finishes of each scene you want Chris.
I use Xilisoft DVD ripper. Itās easy to rip a portion of footage from anywhere in the show thatās on a DVD. You just set the start time from where you want it to rip and set the duration you want it to rip and thatās it! Instant clips in seconds!

Iāll be free from sunday-wednesday (donāt wanna do it thursday cos of the meeting) So if you can get on msn sometime on one of those days we can work though it together.
Holy moly, just checked and youāre absolutely right, Martin - how have I missed that for all these years?! Well, at least now I know that itās there if needed!
My next question to you is, given that that piece of software is there and I had no idea, is there a piece of software that should be on my computer already that can be used for just grabbing sound clips? Something Angie & I had been talking about doing was adding sound files to the quotes in the Episode Guide - obviously sheās not around to help with that now, but when the Episode Guide is closer to completion it would be good to go back and add some sound clips!

Being the lazy so-and-so that I am I think if you were willing to help me with this Iād prefer that to trying to figure out a new piece of software - although ultimately making videoclips is something Iād like to learn to do, for something this involved it might be best to defer to an expert, and you sound like an expert to me! So, if you donāt mind helping (especially knowing how busy you are), that would be awesome!
I think Iām going to be a bit tied-up Sunday evening (not nearly as exciting as it sounds! ;)), and Iām out Tuesday night and Wednesday night, but Monday night is a distinct possibility! Iāll be quite busy on Tuesday and so the only thing Iād say is Iād probably need to log off at about midnight, but if youād be cool with that I canāt see a reason why Monday wouldnāt work - LMK what you think, and many thanks again for this kind offer of help, my friend!
Awesome, thatās exactly what I needed to know! I can use iTunes to rip wav files to mp3s, so thatās no problem - fantastic info, Martin, many thanks!
Happy to help, though Iām sure thereās a better sound ripping programme out there somewhereā¦but itās easy enough to do in WMM if you happen to be stuck, just drag the video into the āaudioā section of the timeline, and save.
Hey gang, just thought youād like to see - thanks to Neilās excellent help, I was able to get the clips I was after, and the page detailing the āExodus deleted scenesā is now online!
As far as I know, this is the most detailed exploration youāll find of these scenes anywhere on the Internet - the best that any other site would be able to do would be to copy what weāve done here!

Maybe I should re-name them to something like āDeleted Dialogue - Sound clip 1ā and āDeleted Dialogue - Sound clip 2ā. I basically want to draw attention in the heading that theyāre actual sound clips, which is why I called them what I did - maybe what I just suggested above would be a better nameā¦?

EDIT: Giving the matter some thought, based on your suggestion, Neil, Iāve changed the headings to say āAdditional Deleted Dialogue - Soundclip #1ā and āAdditional Deleted Dialogue - Soundclip #2ā.
