Devall's Bandai ThunderCats (New Series) toy reviews!

Here’s our first review of the 4" toys that Bandai have recently released at retail! Here Devall takes a detailed look at the Demon Priest himself, Mumm-Ra! Many thanks to Bandai for supplying us with the review figure!

Nice review… thanks… but that’s the Sword of Plundarr he is holding, isn’t it?

It says so on Bandai’s site anyhow…

It annoys me that they mirrored Lion-O’s weapons for Mumm-Ra though. I liked the old sinister Sword of Plundarr better, and why would they give him a claw shield?

The package doesn’t say which sword it is, but the Everliving Form comes with 2 versions of the Sword of Plundarr.

I doubt this version is supposed to have the Sword of Omens.

That was what I noticed as well when doing the review, but seeing as they don’t say WHAT sword he comes with on the package, and that he referenced in the pilot that the sword belonged to him, I used that information as the basis of covering those items.

While it may turn out to be the Sword of Plundarr, the packaging didn’t cover this.

If I did make a slight mistake, I’ll take a wrap on wrists for this one gang. That’s my fault. I usually JUST go off of what is on the packaging, and since there was no info on the sword, and it’s almost identical to the Sword of Omens and my mind was placing that line from the pilot, I just went with that.

Please don’t kill me…

:frowning:

I know we have seen a definate ‘Sword of Plun-Darr’ that’s coming with the Everliving Mumm-Ra Deluxe figure. However since the Sword of Plun-Darr hasn’t appeared in the new series yet, we do not know whether it folds into a dagger like the Sword of Omens does!

There is nothing to say that Mumm-Ra doesn’t corrupt the Sword Of Omens later on in the series… seeing as he claims the stone in the Sword is his! Could he find a way of lifting the protection spell from the Sword, in the Book of Omens? or it could actually be the Sword of Plun-Darr mirroring the Sword Of Omens traits of condensing down into a dagger?

Mumm-Ra didn’t have a Claw Shield in the old series, and him having one in this series looks a bit odd! That’s why I can’t discount Devall’s theory of a corrupt Sword and Claw…

Great review, now look forward to getting him as he is one of the two I’m missing from the main 4" line.

I personally like the idea of it possibly being a corrupted Claw Shield and Sword of Omens..

The dagger is very definately the Sword of Plunn-dar.

“Mumm-Ra comes with a removable cloak and Sword of Plundar”

Not to mention both the dagger and Sword forms of the sword have those “bat wings” on the guard. the Sword of Omens has a different shape to the guard and is completely folded up in dagger form.

Though I do find it interesting that they Sword of Plunn-dar has an eye carved into the jewel.

How can it be the sword of plunn-darr it never had an EYE in the original am i right? Who knows if it has it in this series?

please stop going “it never had so and so in the original”

panthro never had mutton chops in the original.
tygra never had a gun in the original.
claudus didnt have red hair in the original.

this is not the OS.

Ye but why would people even GUESS it’s the sword of plunndar? WHY EVEN? Does not look like it.

we don’t have to guess. It’s been said that it’s the Sword of Plunn-Dar. That’s an official site I linked there.

as for it’s looks. the hilt is different, but the blades are very similar.

From the 6" figure (and notice that the guard is exactly the same as the dagger):

WHy would they be almost the same.. Could aswell just be an sword of omens in mumm-ras controll

True, but stay faithful to the source material that made this rebirth possible. The same source material that proved successful over 25 years ago.

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. I understand modernizing this series to a point where it has its own distinct feel, but don’t screw with certain details.

And don’t forget, it is the generation that grew up with the original that is encouraging their children to watch the new series, buying the toys for themselves and their children to support this.

I don’t think adding a jewel to the Sword of Plun-darr is a detail change that most people will care about.

Interesting to theorize that there may be a dark version of the Sword of Omens and Claw Shield in this series. Mumm-Ra may just possess the anti-Sword of Omens.

It’s also possible that the Sword of Omens IS the Sword of Plundarr if Mumm-Ra gets his hands on it (or when he might have wielded it in the past). But I’m recommending any further discussion like that be moved to the cartoon forums.

At this point I am thinking that it is indeed the Sword of Plundarr and that the reviewer has erroneously termed it the Sword of Omens.

In this series if the Sword of Plundarr is almost a match for the Sword of Omens then they had to be made by the same individual (Mumm-Ra?). Perhaps the Claw Shield as well.
