On sunday mornings, I think. I don’t remember much about it, except that the other Defenders weren’t there and he didn’t have the Ten Tigers!
I remember trying to get into it. But as you said there was no other Defenders in it, the animation style was odd and there was no toys or merchandise out to support it. I did however find out a few weeks ago that Debbie Harry from Blondie voiced a character in the show.
I think I may start trying to re-watch it when I finish with DOTE.
Speaking of voices I was just looking at IMDB and Lou Richards who voiced Flash also voice Leader-1 from the Gobots. 
That reminds me a few years ago, I did image searches for the various voice actors; I was able to find most of them, although sadly a few slipped the net. Anyway, when looking at Lou “Flash” Richards, and Loren “Rick” Lester, I figured that they could probably also pass for father and son on live action TV or stage. I don’t mean that people would assume they were related in real life, but in the context of TV, it would be believable.
I am quite surprised that Sam J. Jones from the Flash Gordon movie never reprised his role for any of the cartoon shows. I will say I prefer Lou Richard’s Flash Gordon. I know when people mention the character everyone thinks of the 80’s film or the earlier cartoon and black and whites shows etc, but too me the DOTE version is the definitive Flash Gordon.
I know exactly what you mean! Obviously with Mandrake & The Phantom having pretty much the exact same look all the time, it’s not so much of an issue.
I guess it all boils down to the fact that it’s what we grew up with and knew first. On the other hand, despite growing up with Dogtanian And The Three Muskahounds, I regard the 1970s films with Michael York and Oliver Reed as the definitive telling of Dumas’ tale. And as for Robin Hood, it’s 1938, Errol Flynn for me all the way!
I agree, the Oliver Reed and Michael York film is the best. Although not entirely accurate to the book (which is brilliant) but is the best film version of the book.
Probably still the most faithful version though! After all, they didn’t change anything major.
Apparently, this Musketeers adaption was conceived in the 60s as a vehicle for The Beatles - now, much as I love The Beatles, I think we had a narrow escape there! Of course, that is also why all the comic sequences were initially created.
I’ve read the book too - good, although a bit long, and it takes a while to get going (and then slows down again for a bit!).
I’ve also seen the 1940s film with Gene Kelly, which is pretty faithful, a passable telling in its own right, and the 1993 version with Chris O’Donnell. That has just one scene in common with the book (the fight at the start between the Musketeers and the Cardinal’s Guards, where D’Artagnan bonds with the three eponymous heroes). The best thing about that film is the Bryan Adams song at the end (with Rod Stewart and Sting).
I don’t think Musketeers with heavy Liverpool accents would work LOL.
Something we haven’t mentioned with DOTE is it’s soundtrack. Thinking back on it, of all action/toys based cartoons I watched it would easily be in the top five for the most recognised background music.

Ah yes, this show had some cracking incidental music. As did Thundercats, Visionaries, Prince Valiant . . . as a songwriter myself, I am sure that went a long way towards their staying in my affections.

To me Thundercats is #1 for incident music. But in no particular order the other 4 would include Bravestarr, He-Man, DOTE and TMNT. Then maybe Ghostbusters. Robotech, Transformers and G.I. Joe would be in the top ten. But again this is just action toy based cartoons only.
I watched Lothar’s Homecoming. In your continuity list I think you should give it an alternate title. Perhaps ‘The Mystery of the Jamaican Sea Demon’. It is basically a Scooby Doo style mystery with the unmasking of the villain at the end.

Thundercats was pretty good on the incidental music front. You could almost follow the plot just by listening to the music. Not many shows could say that, everyone and everything having their own specific theme. Another reason why Tygra was woefully underused, his theme was the best character theme there was! Although the coolest of them all was the Thundertank theme!

I’m glad it’s not just me that saw the comparison to Scooby! When I was watching it on youtube 3yrs ago, I made a comment to that effect. What also bugs me with this episode is the Ten Tigers.
Does The Phantom use the Power Of Ten Tigers when they’re surrounded by enemies? No, he uses it later on just to do a quick switch of medicine boxes. Did he need to use it for that? Not really. Dodgy episode. Plus, despite the initial focus on Lothar, he wasn’t as much the hero as he arguably should have been in that episode.
But you see what I mean when you watch it and also “Kshin And The Ghost Ship”.
I think continuity wise ‘‘Lothar’s Homecoming’’ should be just before ‘‘Kshin and the Ghost Ship’’. I know it interrupts the book of Enigma series, but story wise it would make sense for them to go to another part of Jamaica after Lothar had visited his friends and family the rest would want to look around the rest of the country.

You’re overlooking the fact that The Phantom and Jedda are present in “Lothar’s Homecoming” but not in “Kshin And The Ghost Ship”. Also, Kshin’s comment about loving coming to Jamaica at the start of the latter implies this is not the first time he’s been there. Given how long Lothar has been away from there in the former, chances are the last time he was there was probably before he and Mandrake came across Kshin (as shown in “The Adoption Of Kshin”).

I am VERY glad it’s not just me! A bit like at the end of “The Deadliest Battle”, Kshin breaks the fourth wall in a He-Man-esque way.

Ah that is a good point. I did overlook/not notice Kshin saying that. Although the absence of Jedda and the Phantom could be that they were called away on another mission or where off visiting another part of the island. If I get chance tonight I will watch ‘The Adoption of Kshin’.
They could, although there’s no mention of why they’re not there. I think I’ll keep the Book Of Enigmas “movie” in one piece (even if the episodes are pretty stand-alone!).
And this is why my endeavours to create a continuity order for this show (and Thundercats), are so fraught with difficulty. It’s little throwaway remarks like this that you have to listen out for, that place one episode before another.

You won’t be disappointed. It’s one of the best, and one of the most important, episodes of the whole series.

Speaking of the “movie” adventures - part 3 of The Necklace Of Oros actually does nothing to further the story as a whole, and could be omitted. The only tie-in of any kind concerns LJ and Mongor, which is revisited in part 5.
I must watch all of it and the Prince movie. I only recall seeing about 2 parts of the Necklace of Oros. I don’t recall seeing any of the Prince series on TV.
The Prince Kro-Tan movie is what saved the show for me when I saw it as an adult. The first VHS I bought of the show in a charity shop contained “Battleground”, “The Panther Peril” and “Fury Of The Deep”, none of which really got me going, I thought to myself, “and this used to be one of my favourites?” - but I did at least remember that none of them had really got me going as a kid either. So when I saw the “movie” in a charity shop, nI gave it that second chance, and was glad I did.
Some 80’s cartoons really have not aged well. Some are definitely not as good as I remembered them, Centurions for example.
