Been working on some customs for the last 2 months, need to concentrate on one and get them finished as I keep moving from one job to another. I’ve included some photos of where I’m up too so far, some need more work than others to finish. When the ghosts of jaga’s finished (not pictured) I’ll cast a couple and put them on ebay and same with bengali’s hammer (made two already). Feliners taking longer that I wanted it to, its a pain cutting every piece of plasty card to size but its getting there. So far I’ve been working on the mad bubbler, claudius, jaga custom, ghost of jaga, lizzor monster, red eye, feliner and bengali’s hammer. I’ll eventually get them all finished, Let me know what you think?
Not sure if I like the front screen of the feliner. Made that first to make sure the figure fitted, can always change it when finished. Its been made so the wing flaps and legs when attached all move.
Everything is coming along great! the Bengali Hammers look dead on! (are these being marked somehow as reproductions?) the Redeye is looking pretty solid…I agree with you on the windshield of the feliner…maybe you can find another toylines windshield and modify it? I have an item i may need cast, do you do commissions? have a good one!
The hammers were cast from the original so are 95% accurate reproductions. I’d prefer them to not be 100% as I don’t want them being confused with the original hammer, more just to offer an alternative to those that can’t afford £40+ for the original. Still getting used to casting, it’s small parts that don’t come out well at the moment like the fingers on the arms of the ghost of jaga. I’ll get them sorted out tho. What was it you wanted casting? Hopefully when I’m a bit more confident in what I’m doing I can do commissions, I’m new to customs and up to 2 months ago I never even used sculpting or casting material before, but I’m enjoying learning.
The Bengali hammer is still a dead-on reproduction and you could create some confusion out there. I don’t know how many you’re creating but I think it would hurt the integrity of the original Thundercats line. I’ve been watching Ebay-Thundercats for years and this ‘custom’ hammer would be the closest to the original line that I have ever seen even if it’s 5-10-15% smaller. I notice reproduced Thundercats Cat Lair stickers on Ebay that would occasionally pop-up…but I would give a free-pass on some of those because some people would like to restore their Lair to full glory. Ben-Gali’s hammer on the other hand is not all that rare (Lynxo’s shield, Pumyra’s sling) and the price fluctuations aren’t all that bad - any Thundercat collector could afford one - besides that’s the challenge of collecting.
No offense - but I would stick with making your unique one of a kind customs.
Thats the exact reason I’m not going offer any for sale as they may not be distinguishable from the original at the moment for the collector who’s not seen one before. The only difference between this and the original at the moment is that its painted blue instead of being cast blue. I did it this way as I wanted to know the difference myself. Pumyra’s sling is the only weapon I don’t have loose for that reason as there are too many reproductions (I have 2 MOC ones instead). I can make them 100% exact but as you say it hurts the integrity, although at the same time ebay is full of repro tigras bolo whip and cheetaras staff, as a collector you have to know what your buying and learn to spot the difference. The two I made as almost exact replicas are for my own loose bengali’s as I have a couple loose. I prefer making unique customs, they are a bit more challenging. My main project I’ve turned my attention to is the ghost of jaga as its a figure I want complete in my own collection, and one I know a lot of other collectors want.
