I’m new here to this forum and wanted to start my first post by sharing with you all my Lion commission that was sculpted for me recently. It is 1/6 scale (12" from head to toe). Let me know what you guys think,
That is incredible! I looked closely at the pics to make sure this wasn’t a fake or photoshopped. Whoever your friend is, they did an awesome job, Personally I like this better than the professional statues that came out.
Can you give us a pic on the finished product? And can you give us a quote of what it cost to get this done?
I agree - this is phenomenal! And I also like the sculpt better than the Hard Hero one that just came out. Curious about cost & if it will be painted. Looks very cool as is though.
I am glad you guys like it. I don’t know how to paint, so I send my commissions to my painter thousands of miles away. But I always send him a cast copy for him to paint since original clay sculpts can and usually do break badly in shipping, especially in such long destinations. I learned that the hard way
There is still a simple rocky base that is being sculpted to go with it.
I have a somewhat crazy idea that I want to see if you guys would approve of or not:
I am hoping to have a red transparent cone made of clear resin, the narrow end will be glued to the thundercats logo of the sword, and the wide end will have a big thundercats logo stuck to it, so that it mimics this effect: http://poeticmunky.homestead.com/files/Thundercats.jpg
what do you guys think? and how big or long should I make the cone?
Edit: Also, you may notice that the width of the belt varies in pictures, that’s because they were narrower than I thought they should be, so the sculptor added some width to it, which is the final modification (see pic 1).
And finally, should I ask him to add some wrinkles to the clothes so leave them plain as they are now?
Honestly, I didn’t even notice the width of the belt. Looking back at the pictures again, I’m just amazed at how awesome this sculpt is. It’s very true to the Lion-O we know and love.
Personally, I wouldn’t ask the sculptor to add wrinkles to the clothes. His shirt is very form fitting, so would basically just show the muscles underneath (like spandex or how Superman’s costume fits - very close). I think it looks great as is.
Seems like you know the process and perhaps have this done fairly often, so I would trust your own judgment. I think the conical idea of the ThunderCats logo coming out of the sword in a 3-D manner is a great one, but would it block the line of sight to any other part of the statue if viewed from the front? That’s the only concern I’d have, but since he’s holding the sword up in the air, I don’t imagine it would.

Absolutely gorgeous! Can’t wait to your coloring! Posts are spot on, you should have done the statues. I’d love to see you would do sculpting Cheetara and/or Pumya.
