I am extremely tired of a lot of this speculation/overly-wishful thinking among other things about the new series in general. I figured that an unbiased, non-opinionated list should be compiled of what we do know is true to rid fans of any confusion whatsoever. Here’s what I have. I’m sure a lot of people already know this, but you’re still welcome to read:
-The show is definitely on hiatus
-There are no intentions as of now to make any new episodes
-The staff definitely wants us to know that it is only on hiatus and not cancelled
-A second season was only planned out and never officially started as far as animation or voice acting
-The ratings on Toonami, while very good, will most likely not be what gets the show a second season due to Toonami being mostly comprised of shows that have already aired
Unfortunately, time is against the series, 2014-2015 and 2015-2016… It sounds complicated and unlikely.
On the other hand, there is a tendency in CN to produce series of adventures, relegating the action series.
Maybe they do a new season, the ThunderCats can have a shelf-life longer than YJ and GL on other continents.
Despite this, the Hiatus for the specific case of the Thundercats is more a cancellation than anything else, the renewal does not depend on Toonami, but the success of the series in other markets such as Latin America and Europe.
Well if you want to talk about mean spirited, chique, how about Warner Bros’s refusing to talk about the series or CN cancelling every good cartoon they have.
It’s their show, their choice. They dont have any obligation to tell you it’s right out canceled when you will notice it anyway.
When it comes to CN canceling “good shows” they do that for a reason. TC was probably not profitable for them as much as Adventure Time and other shows. It all comes down to money and the shows who bring the most money will stay and the others gets ditched no matter how “good they are”.
If we all saw the numbers for TC, none of us would probably go on with the show cause you can’t have a company and pay for something that does not pay you back. I’m pretty sure CN thought TC was a good idea and they probably planned more with the creators as 52-60ish episodes were planned. WHen the show did not be this “big hit” everyone thought it would be thtey just pulled the plug and put their efforts elsewhere.
So please, stop whining that they cancel “all the good shows”. It’s all about the money, and Cartoon Network is not for us anyway, it’s for the KIDS first and foremost (and those who buy the toys to keep the show alive).
Rizefall I didn’t ask for your opinion and you don’t know the real reason they ended these shows. It could be true that Thundercats was ended because of a deal with that Lego Chima crap or not, who knows. But doen’t assume a show is always ended because of money there are plenty that were ended because the people/person in charge just didn’t like it even if the show was making money. Maybe when a new person takes over they just wanted to leave there mark with the channel/company instead of continuing someone elses idea/work they just do/get another show.
Taking aside your “disagreement” with Rizefall, it is a little hard to ignore the fact the show was a flop, and I take no joy in saying so. Ratings and merchandising are all that matters to a show like the NS, without both of them, it is a money loosing proposition. Just remember the target demo of this show was male 6-12, and between the lousy merchandise and time slot juggling the show was dealt a severe blow from the start.
As to the reason why they won’t say it cancelled? Take your pick: legal reasons, it’s still airing internationally, it’s still airing domestically, it’s still has merchandise out there, it’s not really cancelled, or they just want the show to go away quietly.
Personally I’m inclined to go with they just want it to die quietly, so we’ll never get a definitive answer.
Probably 99% of the time it’s about the money. A company wont survive without money nor will they support something that does not generate money. If other shows goes on and this one does not that is the reason.
No one would end a show that’s doing good for them. Of course certain things could happen like someone dying, one of the creators leaving and what not but if everyone is still working on the project (or if it has gone on for to long, like How i met your mother which is on it’s last season cause they are getting tired of it even though it gets good ratings) and a show gets canceled it did not to 99% generate enough money or as much as they had hoped.
That’s how companies operate, it’s not my opinion.
It’s CANCELLED! It’s got nothing to do with any other show. It got cancelled because of ‘‘Money’’. I shall explain this as simple as I can. You see the show was aimed at kids, the kids were supposed watch the show and go out and buy the toys, but the kids didn’t like the show and didn’t watch it, and they liked the toys even less and didn’t buy them. So they cancelled the show and Bandai discontinued the toy line.
All of Bandai’s remaining stock is cluttering up discount shops. One shop in the UK is selling them for 99p each and a full case for £11.99. None of the major Toy Shops are stocking them anymore, even Tesco who was sponsoring the show on Channel 5 are no longer selling them.
Wow…okay…it’s a show being discussed, not religious persecution. Get over it.
Edit: Now I will not consider it being cancelled or not absolutely. I am taking it at face value, but I would hate for it to come back when I’m in a wheelchair demanding to have my prune juice and my pill as substitute for a bowl of cereal and milk.
