I’m not a professional customiser by any means but I wasn’t quite satisfied with the Classic Mumm-Ra as it comes new so I had a go at trying to make mine more cartoon accurate and I’m much happier with it now.
- heated the helm bandages with hairdryer to press them down a bit so they’re not all ridiculously horizontal.
- painted various bits like yellow on helm crest and fur on shinpads, gray on snake necks, whites in the eyes, some rough black outlining for definition.
- fabric bandages laid out using screen caps from the show as reference
- cape. The most sorely missing item from the figure. two pieces of material, one black, one red, stuck together with that glue mesh stuff that you iron to melt it and then cut into ‘batwing’ shape with slight tattered areas.
Note the top right picture was before I cut the curves at the top of the cape as shown in the other photos (I forgot it at the time of that top right picture). I’ve never done anything with materials before so it was quite fun to make that cape and learn as I went. I have plenty more of the fabric left so may make some more. A friend of mine wants one for his Mumm-Ra.
