What’s happening ThunderCats fans! I know you guys heard about the Dynamite Entertainment
ThunderCats comic relaunch,
But after reading the 2024 Dynamite ThunderCats comic book series, the character Calica has drawn a lot of frustration from readers. For many fans, she is considered annoying due to a combination of her divisive role as a plot disruptor and the “naive romance” trope she introduces, and her eventually played a major betrayal of the team.
So far a lot of the readers and including my TC group chat have found Calica frustrating and annoying and according a my source, its because her character was deliberately designed to disrupt the classic team dynamic rather than seamlessly blending in as a helpful ally, now her narrative role is defined by friction, hidden agendas, and manipulation.
I spoke to most of the TC Fans and comic reviewers and they told me the commonly point to several reasons for their frustration with her, So Let’s break it down!
- The Wedge Between the Core Team.
From her introduction in ThunderCats #2 she acts as a massive source of division. Because Lion-O’s immediate trust and romantic interest in her blind him to her suspicious origins. This leads to major infighting, culminating in a heated argument where Panthro punches Lion-O and triggers a “Thunder-Duel” with Cheetara.
- A History of Betrayal.
Calica have severely damages her standing with the fans by completely shattering Lion-O’s hard-won trust.
In Issue #4 right after Mumm-Ra critically injures Tygra, she exploits the chaos, defeats Snarf, and steals the Sword of Omens and yet Lion-O forgives her and still let her join the team. WHAT A DUMBASS!
- The Incompetent Double Agent.
As the readers later discover on platforms like YouTube and IG that Calica is actually a covert agent of Jaga. However, her track record makes her come across as highly frustrating, she already failed her mission to stop Thundera’s destruction, failed to infiltrate the Mutants properly, and continually makes choices that leave the ThunderCats exposed.
- A Catalyst for Lion-O’s Downfall.
As the story develops, she is now heavily blamed for driving a wedge between Lion-O and his advisors. Her emotional manipulation and the theft of the Eye of Thundera directly trigger Lion-O’s mental fracture, leading him to transform into the unstable Feral King.
To the writer and artist of the relauch, if are reading this, YOU BETTER DO SOMETHING TO PUT AN END TO CALICA AND OR HISTORY WILL REPEAT ITSELF JUST LIKE THE LAST WRITER!
