having just seen the drawings I am glad it got canned. I can only imagine how bad the show will be butchered if brought back based on all the ideas kicking around and now these drawings.
Even though the new artistry is great artistry, I don’t think it would have worked as Thundercats. I think they should stay along the same lines as the original show, but update the look just a little bit. I’ve always liked the muscular look… It makes them look cool. Too many new cartoons are going with the skinny, slender look anymore. And they do need to go with the same animation company, I think… but then maybe not. I guess we’ll find out.
Oh, yeah. Like I said, this Lion-O looks like a mangy alley cat with ideas above his station. The only beautifully rendered thing in the drawing is the Sword of Omens. That I like – a lot!:bengali:
This proves the old showbiz saying, “Don’t fix it if it ain’t broke.” The ThunderCats require no “fixing”. All they need is updated technology and maybe some updated clothing styles. If Lion-O and company ever return, have them where we last saw them – on New Thundera, continuing their adventures on that world. And have the original cast voice them again. As far as I’m concerned regarding the man doing Lion-O, it’s Larry Kenney or it’s no one.
So all this news means we won’t get to see a new Thundercats series this fall as orginally planned?

I never liked the concept of Thundercats as a rock band but the design isn’t that bad. Not what I would do for Lion-O but not bad for another character. I’m just glad they canned the idea but I hope they do continue making a new series.
That might be the case however, for all we know WB might have rejected this artwork a year ago and we’re just now hearing about. They could have already pushed forward with a different theme.
Only time will tell.
Thanks Manny, but I don’t understand why does WB always tease their fans with rumors about new series(nothing never happens).But I guess if they are going to do ThunderCats they will listen to the fans and do it right!

i hope the wb won’t try to re-do the 80s tcats show in a new way (some1 on here said you shouldn’t re-invent the wheel, & i agree). that would be like crapping all over our childhood memories. instead i hope they expand on the universe that was already established (like a prequel / a storyline that follows AFTER new thundera & the book of omens.)
i also hope wb does this new show in a mature anime-esque style (think street fighter, cowboy beebop, or THIS
), not cutesy kids stuff (like pokemon).
& please please PLEASE let the show be about thundercats, NOT some earth kid who befriends the tcats. i hated the new transformers stuff because they felt they had to thrown in some kids to make the show relatable to the kids watching. blah.

A lot’s happened since I’ve been gone, hasn’t it? Well, I think those drawings won’t do for the Thundercats. To me, those are not the Thundercats I remember. I don’t think new voice actors are bad, but I do want them to at least SOUND like the old thundercats. I don’t want people that sound nothing like the other actors. As long as they can find a sound-a-like, I’m happy. The show may very well continue. Considering that the fan-base is big, and they have kids who show great potential in watching it, it would be good for them financially I believe.

New Thundercats cartoon
I agree 100% and that is what I have been saying all along. If they are going to make a new Thudercats cartoon, then I’d suggest going the route of just continuing with the storyline from the last cartoon.
Maybe having many years go by, with different things happening in-between and then using some episodes to explain what the viewer missed all those years. They could use flashbacks, introduce new villians, reintroduce old villians, some good guys could be MIA for a while, etc. So much to work with if Warner Bros. goes that route. It just leaves room for so much good storytelling.
The only thing is, will the bulk of the storylines and action take place on Third-Earth or Thundera. I find Third-Earth a little more familiar and interesting, but Thundera, actually, new Thundera has not been explored enough. Another thing is, would ALL of the Thundercats live on New Thundera or would a few live there while others stay on Third-Earth?
I know this may be redundant and ironic, but imagine if the show of the new Thundercat series opened up the way the first episode of the old cartoon did, where the planet is about to blow up.
Imagine New Thundera being destroyed once again and the Thundercats having to return back to Third-Earth. Remember, New Thundera wasn’t all that stable in the first place and was only held together by the reactor or whatever that stick was.
The only way I see the New Thundercats cartoon succeeding is if they stick to the old formula storywise and continue from there. Of course, update the animation and graphics using today’s technology, but keep everything else the same and rehire Leonard Starrs back as headwriter. (also, make the Lunatics a reputable group of villians like how they FIRST started out, before turning into clowns like the mutants).
Anyone remember the two He-Man cartoons after the original one? IMO, it is horrible and nothing like the old He-Man at all. This is a message to Warner Bros., that when you stray away from the original concept, it may fail. Let’s hope they keep the winning formula and not try to make drastic changes in order to win over a new audience.

Someone mentioned a Thundercats video game and I think that once a new cartoon airs, a video game will surely follow.
Thank you, Thunderhood! It’s great to know somebody out there agrees with me. New Thundera was held together by the gravitational pull caused by a gigantic, spinning gyroscope situated underground in an area called the Great Beneath. But I wouldn’t want to see Thundera blown to smithereens again; that’s just too unoriginal. What I’d love seeing is New Thundera intact with the main city rising again as new townships and village appear as well. The New Thundera Cats’ Lair would be as it was with more rooms than before. There would be more refugees now and, as I said before in an earlier posting on this site, brand new ThunderCats would emerge from among those refugees, the most obvious one being the character Torr who interacted with the T-Cats after they rescued Torr and his family from Two-Time. Newly-anointed Cats can go to Third Earth and take over Cats’ Lair and the Tower of Omens so Tygra and Pumyra can finally join Lion-O and the others on New Thundera. Then the adventures can really take off from there. But there would be periodic visits to Third Earth where we can again see the Berbils, the Warrior Maidens, Snow Man, and Snow Meow.:bengali:

Thunderhood, you’re right. the original formula would be the only way to go, however, I couldn’t see them blowing Thundera up again… it seems too, well… , unoriginal. They’ve already done that. Plus I would like to see more of Thundera, seeing as though we don’t know it that well.

If a new series were to start where the old one left off, it would be too confusing for new fans. I say RE-TELL the story. Start off the new series with a new version of ‘Exodus’.
No, I don’t agree. Continue the series where it left off – on New Thundera. Recap the previous series to provide the backstory for the new T-Cat fans, as they would need the information. And then take it from there.:bengali:
I agree, the new series should be like the new M.O.T.U. series.(new fans will understand the story more).It would be cool if CN has a 90 minute special introducing the new series!
I would rather they do a reboot. I know that as fans of the original series, we don’t want them to mess with what’s already been told. However, if WB were to do a continuation, there would be no way the series could cater to a broad audience. I’d hate for 1/3 of the episode to be flashbacks trying to explain to new viewers how it connects with the old series.
It needs to be a fresh, new take on the property and I believe that is what WB is going to do…for better or for worse.
By the way, I’m working on a FAQ thread that puts together all the rumors that have been going around the web so that should definitely help people keep up with all the crazy stuff we’ve been hearing recently.
New Series From The Ground Up? I don’t think so.
I have to disagree with the few of you in that a new series would put the show in jeapordy.
Look at the TMNT and He-Man, especially He-Man, oh, and I forgot Voltron. I don’t know if many of you remembe, but I saw one episode of a Voltron cartoon in 3D. This must’ve been in 1999 or 2000 or even 2001 (I forget).
But point is, those shows did not live up to the original, well, maybe the TMNTs, but still, the original wasso much better. And! - I don’t think any cartoon in existence has ever contined from the las show when the last show has not aired in years.
If the Thundercats were to continue form the previous series, that would be the first and I think it would really work. There does not have to be many flashbacks at all. Maybe a couple of early episodes can be deicated to getting the viewer up to par with what has happened all those years.
Someone mentioned that the “new” fans would be confused about the show if Warner Bros. were to continue. I have an easy solution to this very minor problem; how about those “new” fans buy the recently released, original series on DVD and they will be brought up-to-date with the series.
I kind of agree with Manny in that the show should be retooled/start from scratch. If they rewrite the series a little, but keep things the same as far as characters, their appearance and voices, that would work also.
I just really have a problem trying to take the Thundercats into a new direction in the form of rockstar Lion-o or the Lion-o with no boots and a monkey companion. No, no, that will not work. Lol…A monkey can not and will not replace Snarf! - Sorry!
Also, I have seen some of the comics and I actually own one and I hate they way they age Wilykat and Cheetara looks so different in age. Let us hope that they don’t use thsoe ideas for the cartoon.
I don’t know, I guess well just have to wait and see what comes out of this, but as I have stated before and I’ll say it again, I really wish it was another company besides Warner that has the rights to the show.
