Whilst it’s true to say I haven’t written much for the Comic Section lately, I haven’t forgotten about it, and have two items of news to report, both pertaining to the UK Comics subsection!
Thanks to Neil, I’ve been speaking with an artist called Tim Perkins, who worked on the UK ThunderCats comic. Tim has very kindly agreed to be interviewed for the site, and has also generously offered to donate some images for the site, including original art that he drew for the comics, and some material that he drew for the UK comic that never saw light of day! I’ve spoken to my very dear and long-standing friend Nick Cathery, better known as “Havoc” on the He-Man.Org boards. Nick used to collect the UK ThunderCats comic back in the day, and still has all his issues! The really exciting part of this is that Nick owns every issue of the UK comic from #1 - #111 - so, with the issues from my own collection, that means we will have probably the most complete covers gallery for the UK ThunderCats comics anywhere on the Internet!! Nick has asked me to let him know which issues we need cover scans of, which I shall do later on this evening hopefully, and he plans to start scanning next week!
One question I do have for you guys is this - years ago when I first knew him, Nick had been scanning these covers for David “Hordak” Matthews’ never-produced TCats site, and David also wanted him to scan the ThunderCats Fact Files that were published in some issues. I’ve seen a few of these fact files myself and they’re great - with stats about each ThunderCat and some lovely artwork they are great to see! Nick wondered if I wanted the Fact Files scanning for inclusion on our site too? I said I’d ask for input and see what you guys think - I love the idea of having them hosted on the site, as I think we could actually make a special section out of them. However, technically they are copyrighted material from the interior of a comic, and prior to this I’ve always been edgy about reproducing interior comic material because of copyright.
What do you guys think? I’d really welcome your views!

This is awesome news!!!Awesome job. As far a the copyright stuff isnt it possible to put something on the web so long as a disclaimer is put on there?? Im not sure on the copyright laws and such but i personally see no reason why we couldnt put the above stated material on the website.
I don’t see a problem posting those profiles. If the comic publisher is not happy then it wouldn’t be that hard to take them down. But I can’t see it being a problem as:
A/We are not making a profit from hosting images from inside the comic
and
B/The comic is no longer in print, meaning the only way to get them is to buy existing comics so it isn’t like the publisher would be losing money.
I’m glad you got into contact with Tim and everything is going well with the comics. Oh and thank Nick for me for his contributions, being an huge help!
Out of interest, can you ask him if he knows if The Stinger ever appeared in any of the comics he has? Thanks!
Knowing next to nothing about the comics aside from the little bits of information you’ve mentioned, I’m keen to see your work on the comic section, and its great you’ve managed to actually get some info from someone involved!
I like the idea of having the fact files up on the site too!
That’s great news Chris! As the others have said, I’m pretty sure it would be okay to post the scans that you want. If we run into trouble, we could always just take it off…but I don’t think it would come to that.

Awesome work Chris…Off the subject but ive been getting requests for the talkback threads. My thought was perhaps do one or two per week and in DVD order. Perhaps make a subforum on the cartoon section strictly for talkbacks?. All input and suggestions apreciated lets get this thing going as I think it would increase forum participation among members
Firstly just to say I’ve e-mailed Tim Perkins the questions for the interview and he’s acknowledged their arrival - he’s hoping to answer them tonight or tomorrow!

I personally would do maybe 2 per week, every week (although not necessarily religiously - I don’t think it would be a major problem if you ended up skipping over a week occasionally), and yep, I’d go in DVD order!
Actually, as far as Board activity is concerned, the point you raise is a good one. At He-Man.Org, back in the days when that was a small community, they had really meaty talking points arising that kept forum activity brisk - one of the biggest sources of discussion/debate was Busta Toons & Zadoc Angell’s He-Man & She-Ra Episode Review Website, which always got people debating the finer points of episodes. So, I think talkback threads are an excellent idea - hopefully, if Manny’s still cool with the concept of the Cartoon Section having reviews for each episode, those should also promote some discussion!
Another idea, from time to time you could have fun “games” on the Board, like a “Name That Quote” or “Caption This Picture”-type game! Whilst I rarely take part in those on He-Man.Org, they seem to generate a lot of activity and fun!
