I was hoping it was a fellowship thing. Tygra didn’t look too excited to see that his actual brother was alive.
When was this?

It was at the end of the episode Ho! Part 5
After Bengali is annointed a Thundercat, Tygra turns to him and calls him “Brother”
Just as there are “time gaps” between episodes, there more than likely are time gaps between the scenes in episodes. So, there could have been something in between that Tygra reacted to his brother being alive. It could be possible the creative staff probably didn’t think kids would wonder why Tygra didn’t react the way one should when they find out their brother is alive.
(Never mind kids grow up, nor the fact that a cartoon could be so enduring.)
Also, the episode itself was maybe edited in the script process, or before it got to that, even, staying brothers only in sketches and sounding-board discussions. Later, the creative staff on the show probably thought keeping in the “Brother” part could be taken a couple of ways: Ben-Gali & Tygra being actually brothers, or they being brothers-by-fellowship.
Thought I’d share. ![]()

You are probably right. A very emotional scene where Tygra just screams “BROTHER YOU LIVE!” would have probably freaked most kids out. Thanks for sharing.
tygra’s a very reserved guy. he could’ve said, “brother,” & then just shook bengali’s hand. hahahaha!
speaking of reserved & slightly unemotional, did any1 else find it odd how lion-o & claudus were very formal w/ each other in the shadowmaster episode?
& in exodus, lion-o never asked, “oh my gosh! was that thundera that just blew up?!! hey…where’s dad?”
Chris here…
It’s definitely no big deal, but could I just ask everyone, for threads on this discussion board, please could you avoid back-to-back posting wherever possible?
Like I say, it’s not a big problem (and I know it’s not mentioned in the “Board Conduct” thread stickied up the top of this forum), but it just helps to keep things tidy - so, if you guys would be able to help me out by editing your previous post if you have something to add rather than doing a whole new post immediately after, that would be enormously helpful. ![]()
Many thanks, everybody! ![]()
Take care… ![]()
Where is this pic? I Can’t find it…
Chris here…
This thread was started about a year ago, and was commenting on some amazing images that had been posted up at the time in this thread here: http://www.thundercatslair.org/forums/showthread.php?t=1102 . ![]()
Hope that helps! ![]()

Chris thanks for posting the link as I was debating posting the pic again (but was hesitant as I knew there was a thread with it in it I just didnt remember what it was).
wow is that sentence a run on or what
thanks! wow, a new secret revealed about t-cats after all these years…the tigers are brothers!
I agree with Tcatartist. I just read the thread where the Bengali drawing is located, and it confirmed my gut feeling that Tygra and Bengali did indeed start out as full brothers. However, the idea was dropped and it shouldn’t have been because it would have added so much to the series. Oh, and that sheet showing the Eye of Thundera opening? I hope you’ve archived that! It’s too good to let it get away!:bengali:
That had me rolling!
http://www.thundercatslair.org/cartoon/animationart/production/concept/index.html
Check the writeup on the series 2 concept art that I did on this page. I noted that the idea of the “true brotherliness” was not expressly built into the show. This concept art by the way is not considered “true cannon” for the show so take what you read there with a pinch of salt. A lot of time and changes occur between a rough concept drawing like this one, and its not clear who did this drawing and whether it was built into the final “semi-official” model sheets that are drawn and written in, and then shared with the animators.
I always figured that the two are more brothers by virtue of a tribal / breed connection and not necessarily by virtue of having the same mother and father. Ah well, still a mystery for the ages.
I would have loved that kind of scene. It’s too bad they didn’t make Tygra and Bengali actual sibs.:bengali:
Lion-O and Claudus weren’t exactly unemotional or reserved in “The Shadowmaster”. At least I didn’t think they were, and I’ve watched that episode many times. And young Lion-O was saddened by Thundera exploding, but you’re right in saying that he should have been far more emotional about it than he was. And, yes, why wasn’t he wondering where his father Claudus was? What’s even more bewildering is that Lion-O never once during the entire series asked about his mother or even what her name was. Such lapses are irritating, but that’s where the fan-fic writers come in to fill those gaps.:bengali:
