Back-to-back posting? :)

Hi all,

Just a quick suggestion - do you think it might be an idea to add a mention about trying to avoid back-to-back posting to the “Board Conduct” thread(s) on the Dicussion Forums? In the past it’s never really been a problem, and with the amount of activity we get it’s probably not a major issue now, but I note that our newest forum member Saltygirl has a bit of a habit of doing it and so that made me wonder if we should add the reference?

On the Cartoon & Comics Board I took a “Moderator’s Executive Decision” and merged two of her posts that she’d made within a couple of minutes of each other, both on related discussion points - I hope that this was OK to do. I definitely don’t think that we should bend ourselves out of shape over it like they do at He-Man.Org (i.e., edit people’s posts with PLEASE READ FORUM RULES ABOUT BACK-TO-BACK POSTING! LOL!), but I personally feel it would be a good thing to try and encourage people to edit their posts rather than back-to-back post. What do you think?

it may be a good idea to mention it to keep the board tidy, buy we shouldnt get anal about it like over at heman.org

Chris here…

Yeah, my sentiments entirely - although, I think some of the reason the folks over at He-Man.Org come over as “anal” is the somewhat indelicate manner they handle those sort of things. I think if Moderators are polite to people and politely and respectfully explain why certain things are encouraged and discouraged, in the main my belief is that people will be cool, whereas at He-Man.Org they put people’s backs up, mine included!

Edited forum rules to include “Avoid back to Back posting”

Chris here…

Good one, MannyC, many thanks!

Definately agree. Will definately start merging posts from now on.

However if someone back to back posts after, say 24 hours then I think we shouldn’t edit the 2 posts together.

and yes he-man.org is very ott

Its called power Neil…the need to feel important. I think back to back posting is not a big problem is just one of those unspoken rules in forums that some people dont know about. Hell for all we know maybe saltygirl didnt know how to post multiple images on one post. Doesnt bother me but the need to merge is becoming necessary

Chris here…

I totally agree with that - really the only thing I think is a problem is if someone makes a post and then adds another comment as an afterthought after only, say, 2 - 10 minutes, IMO they should edit their previous post rather than do a fresh post.

It wasn’t actually image-based, it was basically the scenario I described above - i.e., she posted a comment to a thread and then made another, related, point in a fresh post about three minutes later. It definitely isn’t a big deal, particularly as before today we didn’t have any sort of guideline about it posted up in the Board Conduct thread, so even if she’d read that she wouldn’t know that double-posting was taboo on these Boards. All looks to be cool, now, and I definitely think it was a good move adding a mention about back-to-back posting to the guidelines!

Manny is talking about another post in the fan-art forum where she has posted images of her work (one with the females breast exposed!!) However I don’t think either the nipple showing or the fact that she posted back to back 3 times, each time with a new image is that bad in this context. I think in the fan art forum we have to make allowances for this kinda thing right?

Can you even post multiple images in one thread anyway? What do you guys think?

I don’t wanna upset her as she has brought some new life into the forum.

Chris here…

I personally think the Fan Art Board should be exempt from the back-to-back posting rule - although technically you can post up multiple images in one post, some people may prefer not to and I definitely don’t think in that circumstance it’s a problem. I must admit I haven’t seen the image with the breast exposed - however, I do want to! (j/k!) Seriously, what I’ve seen over there makes me think that that is absolutely fine, it’s really only Discussion threads where it’s an issue IMO.
