[I]The day before Avi Arad and Marvel announced that he was becoming an independent producer for them, iF MAGAZINE caught up with Arad and cornered him on details about the currently filming SPIDER-MAN 3 movie. iF was able to confirm what we had already heard from undisclosed sources that there is indeed a FOURTH as of yet unnamed villain in the Spidey flick
iF MAGAZINE: What is the reason for the costume change in SPIDER-MAN 3?
AVI ARAD: We still have the red costume. We have both, which is the art of metaphors.
iF: Why not the black costume from the comic with the big white spider?
ARAD: We reserved the white spider for something else.
iF: Have you and Sam Raimi talked about films beyond SPIDER-MAN 3?
ARAD: All we care about at the moment is doing a masterful number
iF: There are four villains this time, Venom, Sandman, and Green Goblin and when is the fourth going to be revealed?
ARAD: Right we have four villains. Pretty soon [we?ll reveal the fourth villain] I believe. Maybe around Comic Con we?ll reveal something and the madness will begin.[/I]
4 baddies against 1 good guy? I think that’s a lot of characters for one movie. Would it be too early to say Sam Raimi jumped on the gun on this movie?
No, but more the merrier if done right. However, I don’t like the “NEW” black costume. Even though the story have to be different than the Secret Wars why not use the costume style used in the comics? WHYYYYYYY???
I think the white spider costume he said is reserved for Venom. The Lizard is a very good possibility. The latest buzz is Mysterio. But you know how rumors go. There has also been speculation that the Gwen Stacy character might be the Black Cat. Most people believe the fourth villian will appear in the first few minutes of the movie and be gone. And as for Venom, the feeling is that he will appear at the end of the movie briefly(setting up for the 4th film). Thus leaving most of the film dedicated to Sandman and Goblin. But of course this is all speculation.

I’m not sure what to think of there being 4 villains. It seems like too much to put in, but I’m sure Raimi and crew will pull it off. I wouldn’t mind seeing one of these villains get taken down in the first 15 minutes to show where Peter is in his crime fighting career. 8)
I didn’t like the black costume at first, but it is growing on me. I think it was said that they wanted to reserve the black/white look for Venom.
